Aurora Fox Arts Center

Contemporary plays and musicals
9900 East Colfax Avenue
Denver, CO 80010
United States
+1 303 739 1970
www.aurorafox.org
Located along a dilapidated portion of East Colfax Avenue that is surrounded by pawnshops, the Aurora Fox is a shining neighborhood jewel. A converted movie house, the 250-seat theater now serves as a stage for contemporary plays and lighthearted musicals. The main groups associated with the Fox are the Aurora Theatre Company, the Aurora Singers, and the Aurora Symphony. Most performances occur on the weekends and the Sunday matinees are very popular. During summer, the theater provides children's programs performed by the kids themselves.

True Old West presence

Denver, CO 80422
United States
+1 303 582 1323
http://www.blackhawkcolorado.com/
More so than any other Black Hawk casino does this throwback convey a dusty, spur wearing sense of the Wild West. The slanted front sidewalk is lined with weathered wooden planks and the inside casts expectations of "where are the dancing saloon girls?" The mounted heads of elk, pronghorn, and other wild game adorn the walls adding a "I've-never-seen-that-in-a-casino-before" touch. It crams in 109 slot and video poker machines and two black jack tables. Parking is only available in the city lot. Well drinks are $1.

For more than 25 years, the Bull and Bush pub has been offering patrons a cozy place to drink in an authentic London atmosphere. The interior is weathered and worn, yet the dark wood, red glass lanterns, and coppertop bar still manage to exude a Victorian feel. Eight to 10 microbrews are always on tap. Each emulates the finest intoxicating flavors Great Britain has to offer. To complement the beer, you can order the standard pub grub, including burgers, sandwiches and wings. But the highlight of the menu is definitely the fish and chips.

The casino itself features 600 slot and video poker machines. Well drinks are free to players. The Canyon Grille offers a nice choice of steaks and sandwiches, and is enough removed from the buzz of the casino so as to enjoy a quiet meal. Free parking is available.

This old Victorian theatre carries a long cultural legacy. Built in 1861 with Colorado granite, the theater boasts of perfect acoustics behind walls that are four feet thick. After the gold rush subsided, the theatre stopped operations. However, it was reopened in 1932 and has been at the center of opera performances in Colorado. Inside the opera house, do notice the impressive fresco on the ceiling, painted by John C. Massman. The seating area is rather compact with 750 seats. Every opera is in English.

It was also the first theatre in Denver to show talking movies. Today the grand art deco style of the theatre is still dominant and it has now been turned into a world-class music center. In keeping with the move, the Gothic has installed state-of-the-art sound and light systems, doing justice to visiting bands like The Rebirth Brass Band.
