Stepping into this dining-nugget is akin to taking a trip back to the American supper clubs of the 1930s. Dark wood, brass fixtures and retro neon signs create the desired effect here. Its martinis have been recognized by the local press as some of the best in Denver, making it a popular after-work stop. Choose from an array of dishes ranging from upscale steak and seafood selections to local favorites, such as the vegetarian burrito and Mexican steak. It offers seven sauces, nine cheeses, and two crusts, thick and thin, to choose from for each pie. And has exciting offers too - fill in your birthday details and get a $5 certificate in the mail during the birthday month. Calzones and a salad bar round out the menu, but do your taste buds a favor and opt for the pizza.

Denver, CO 80209-1517

+1 303 778 0147
The Blue Bonnet, a Denver dining landmark, is always busy regardless of the hour. The menu is loaded with high-calorie Mexican food and includes everything from burritos to Chile Rellenos smothered in red or green chili. The portions are enormous and to-go boxes are not only available, they are advisable. A sprawling deck is the place to be in the summer, although the only view is of a busy strip mall and of the traffic on Broadway. Pool tables are available and make for good diversions while waiting for a table.

Two brothers from England traveled America to find, and then duplicate, the best barbecue on the planet. Once they had the secrets and perfected the craft of tasty barbecue, they opened shop in Denver. The sauce, which is the key, makes the joint, and just about everything on the menu tastes good slathered in it. The KC Style Brisket sandwich and St. Louis Style ribs are the menu highlights. Sides include fries, beans and coleslaw. The lines can be long, so you might bring along some reading material.

This establishment holds the oldest liquor license in the state, and it has been in operation for more than a century. Countless American icons have eaten here, including the legendary Wild Bill Cody. Be aware that the dining room walls are festooned with mounted animal trophy heads, which some diners find as uncomfortably distracting. The menu offers some eye-opening fare such as rattlesnake and fried alligator tail. If you prefer the traditional, tenderloin, T-bone and New York strip options abound. It is also the place to try Colorado favorites like elk and buffalo.

This charming Park Hill eatery occupies an old pharmacy and still has the original tile floor to prove it. Over the past couple of years, the place has developed a huge following, so it is a good idea to call ahead and get on the waiting list. Or it could be a long wait, especially on weekends. The cozy dining area, which is tucked between an open kitchen and the bar, seats barely 50 people, but gives the place the feel of a true neighborhood bistro. The signature dish, Pasta Felese, is a tasty mix of chicken, artichoke hearts, and other vegetables. If you are searching for a real treat, try the Chicken Marsala.

Wazee Supper Club

Pieces from the past
1600 15th Street
Denver, CO 80202

This downtown mainstay has been filling the stomachs of Denver diners since 1974. It oozes with character in a classic nook of the city. Red brick walls contrast with sleek black tables and matching chairs, preserving precious pieces of the city's historic past. The menu features a host of wood-fired individual pizzas that many claim to be the best in Denver. There are plenty of sandwiches to choose from too, including a Philly cheesesteak and a towering rueben.

White Fence Farm

Dinner at the farm

Come to the farm for the afternoon to visit animals at the petting zoo, and then stay for dinner and enjoy some down-home country cooking. Kids love all the activities the restaurant provides, including horse drawn carriage rides, a petting zoo and playground. Get ready for some family-style cooking, with tables full of corn fritters, red beets, cottage cheese, and other offerings. Entrees include broiled pork chops, grilled beef liver, and award-winning fried farm chicken. Desserts are just what you would expect from a country inn: pies, fruit cobblers and ice cream.
