Cozy comfort food |
4012 East Eighth Avenur Denver, CO 80220 United States +1 303 355 8197 |
Annie's Café is a throwback to the good old days from the old advertising lining the walls to the phosphate made by a real soda jerk, from the unbelievable portions to the two-buck breakfast specials. Breakfast is the big draw and the homemade muffins are great. For something more substantial, try the biscuits and gravy or eggs benedict. For dinner, the comfort food favorites rule the roost. You can order liver and onions or a heart-stopping platter of chicken fried steak piled with creamy gravy. Review © 2007, Wcities |

New York styled |
510 17th Street Denver, CO 80202 United States +1 303 825 5353 |
Despite its hidden location inside the downtown Denver Club building do not deny yourself the chance for true deli food by thinking you need to be a member-it is open to the public. It features a fist full of homemade salads ranging from red skin potato to caesar pasta. Its sandwiches, which in true deli tradition feature specialty names like the West Coast Manager, and the Auditor, are many and include vegetarian choices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Popular with neighborhood patrons |
1312 East Sixth Avenue Denver, CO 80218 United States +1 303 765 0339 |
This multi-dimensional food hub is a delicatessen that also shares space with Garramone's, a gourmet produce grocery, and, Oliver's Meats, a butchers shop. Everything about it smells and looks like a true, traditional deli. Popular in the neighborhood, the deli itself offers a myriad of meats and cheeses along with salads, soups and superb sandwiches. Specials are selected daily and put on display, including mouthwatering meatloaf, pesto and colossal crab cakes. Outdoor seating is available, though limited. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Breakfast over easy |
300 Josephine Street Denver, CO 80206 United States +1 303 322 1601 |
The Egg Shell knows how to create a breakfast feast: there are over 50 menu items to tempt even the pickiest eater. Choose between waffles, pancakes, cereals, muffins and standard (and not-so-standard) egg dishes. Unfortunately, the Egg Shell closes at 2p every day; it should know that breakfast tastes best between midnight and 3:00a. Its Cherry Creek location draws a trendy crowd, and if you hang out long enough you are liable to see some of Denver's more notable celebrities. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Deli with attitude |
3130 Lowell Boulevard Denver, CO 80211-3639 United States +1 303 477 2605 http://www.heidisbrooklyndeli.... |
What began as a small, neighborhood corner ice cream parlor has evolved into a full-fledged deli. Started by a couple of Brooklyn transplants looking for the flavors of home, this deli comes with a heavy dose of New York flavor and a bit of New York attitude. Start with the Brooklyn Breakfast Sandwich, piled with cheese, eggs and a choice of meat. The deli also has 31 sandwiches, including meatloaf, and in true New York fashion sells Sabrett Hot Dogs. There are also an array of desserts, and a full selection of coffee and espresso drinks. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sandwiches on the fly |
1925 Blake Street Denver, CO 80202 United States +1 303 293 2364 |
In an area of town more known for sports bars and baseball games, this downstairs deli is a welcomed taste bud alternative. The interior, which does have windows, has a casual, almost college-like feel, with plenty of tables and plenty of newspapers scattered about. The breakfast is limited mainly to bagels, muffins and egg sandwiches — a perfect stop for business folk. The lunch menu is traditional deli with a scroll of sandwiches, which come with seven cheese and five bread options. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Denver's restaurant alternative |
617 22nd Street Denver, CO 80205 United States +1 303 825 4133 http://www.lemonsistersmarket.... |
This is an excellent food alternative in downtown Denver. This handy little market, which harks of something found in New York or Chicago, harbors a deli offering salads, sandwiches and homemade desserts. Daily specials feature items such as lasagna, Hungarian goulash and Sloppy Joes. There are also soups like Thai Pumpkin and Brazilian Black Bean. If time is a factor, call ahead and order a box lunch. Lemon Sisters also delivers to downtown businesses. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Odd assortment of good eats |
1836 Blake Street Denver, CO 80202 United States +1 303 308 0110 |
Manny's Underground is an odd blend of bistro, deli, coffeehouse and breakfast bakery meshed into a small brick office building basement in LoDo. This might be the only restaurant in town where you can order macaroni and cheese with crab cakes, a bowl of Captain Crunch sprinkled with granola, or a turkey sandwich and a big slice of apple pie. The homemade empanadas and massive breakfast burritos rate superb. The lunch specials draw crowds, so arrive early if time is a factor. Outdoor seating is available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Home cooked, literally |
3705 Shoshone Street Denver, CO 80211 United States +1 303 477 3372 |
Maria's offers one of the more interesting settings for dining in the metro area. Located in north Denver, the popular spot is an old house converted into a restaurant. Even the carriage house contains a seating area. Lunch is the only meal available and Maria's giant sandwiches, made with her scrumptious, thick-sliced homemade bread, fill the menu. The soup of the day comes in a paper cup, but is usually delicious nonetheless. There is a good selection of sandwiches: meatloaf, tuna salad, turkey and boned chicken to name the favorites. The brownies and cookies are great to go. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Deli-burger deluxe |
837 East 17th Avenue Denver, CO 80218 United States +1 303 837 8887 |
Surprisingly enough, New York on 17th prides itself on its hamburgers. Sure, you can get pastrami, liverwurst, corned beef and egg salad, but what you will come back for are the burgers: a nice half-pound of beef charbroiled to order and brimming with flavor. Check out the burger variations, especially if you like yours topped with chili. Have a little macaroni or potato salad and an egg crème on the side and you are set. Delivery is available for very large orders of USD100 or more. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Homegrown sub shop |
988 Lincoln Street Denver, CO 80203 United States +1 303 860 0730 http://www.spicypickle.com |
Just the fact that this common-looking sub shop has managed to survive downtown's competitive dining scene is remarkable, but even more remarkable is that in less than two years it has managed to create a huge following. Its ability to offer "mmm-this-is delicious" type sandwiches is its draw. All subs come on Italian loaf bread and offer an amazing array of options including 12 meats, 14 spreads and 13 cheeses. The panini sandwiches are just as popular. All food is counter-ordered. Other location: 745 Colorado Boulevard, +1 303 321 8353. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Contemporary deli menu |
2043 South University Boulevard Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 303 733 7530 http://www.treehousecafe.com |
Every year this deli wins local press awards for serving Denver's best sandwiches, and for being the city's best deli. The interior resembles its menu: traditional but just a bit quirky-all of the tables are unique in shape. Limited outdoor seating is available. In typical deli fashion this cafe provides counter order service and features expected items like pastrami or chicken salad sandwiches. Non-traditional deli items include organic scrambled eggs with ham, turkey and provolone cheese. Or try the vegetarian Tree Hugger piled high with sprouts, tomatoes and avocados. From breakfast to dinner, this deli and convenience store is a great place to get a delicious, quick meal at a decent price. For breakfast, sample the breakfast burrito, French toast or grab a fresh pastry. Lunch serves a variety of subs and a great reuben. For lighter fare, check out the Oasis Salad made with pasta and artichokes. Hot entrees include lemon-peppered chicken, stuffed bell peppers and Mexican lasagna. Desserts include cookies, baklava and cheesecake. Review © 2007, Wcities |
