Extends the bounds of true dining |
3030 East Sixth Avenue Denver, CO 80206 United States +1 303 393 1040 |
To give you a hint to how seriously this restaurant treats its ability to provide superb service with superb food, it shuts its doors every summer for two weeks so that the entire staff can tour Italy's wineries and restaurants. Hence, this food pearl rates as one of the best in Colorado. All entrees are of the types that cause diners to exclaim, "I have never had a dish like this before." grilled veal chop over a spinach and goat cheese tort, and duckling served with garlic rosemary hashbrowns are two such examples. The wine list offers over 700 varieties. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This family-owned and operated restaurant has been a fixture in the Bonnie Brae neighborhood for more than 20 years. With a rough and tumble roadhouse appearance mixed with a family friendly atmosphere the tavern caters to all by serving outstanding pizzas, fine, down-home comfort food and lots of beer. The halibut is excellent and comes with a ton of side dishes. The chicken fried steak is a definite winner, but make sure you do not miss the pizza. Review © 2007, Wcities |

It did not take long for this restaurant to go from the "new kid in town" to being an immediate Denver favorite. Mustard colored walls hold flower murals and frescoes, giving the place the intended Tuscan ambiance. As an added bonus its waitstaff has been recognized by '5280 Magazine' as the best in Denver. The pasta selection is huge and includes such innovative dishes as Agnolotti di Zucca, homemade pasta crammed with butternut squash, and Spaghetti con Sarde e Rapini, pasta topped with sardines. Steak, chicken and seafood are also available. The restaurant can also be booked for wedding receptions, corporate functions and special occasions. Review © 2007, Wcities |

3800 West 38th Avenue Denver, CO 80211 United States +1 303 477 1694 |
If you are looking for a budget-priced, family-friendly Italian restaurant, consider this north Denver institution. Carl's Pizzeria has been serving pizza, spaghetti, and other Italian fare from its modest location on 38th Avenue since 1953. Décor consists of plain white walls and vinyl tablecloths, but the friendly service always makes you feel welcome. Bring the kids and spread out in a spacious booth as you wait for your order. Pizza, obviously, is the item of choice. Limited delivery is available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italian dining in a neighborhood setting |
4645 East 23rd Avenue (at Dexter) Denver, CO 80207 United States +1 303 377 1914 |
This charming Park Hill eatery occupies an old pharmacy and still has the original tile floor to prove it. Over the past couple of years, the place has developed a huge following, so it is a good idea to call ahead and get on the waiting list. Or it could be a long wait, especially on weekends. The cozy dining area, which is tucked between an open kitchen and the bar, seats barely 50 people, but gives the place the feel of a true neighborhood bistro. The signature dish, Pasta Felese, is a tasty mix of chicken, artichoke hearts, and other vegetables. If you are searching for a real treat, try the Chicken Marsala. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Colorful Cuisine |

That's what the name means. Add "Italian" to the description and you've got it. In fact, colorful is also a good way to describe the place with its upbeat, upscale atmosphere, open kitchen concept, and conversation-friendly patio dining area. Cucina Colore's focus on clean cut, authentic Italian cuisine separates it from many other wannabes and try-to-bes. The restaurant has an award-winning wine list that will compliment and enhance any choice you make, from their appetizers to salads to wood-fired pizza to pasta. Delicate sorbets and authentic gelatos finish off the evening with color, you might say. -Theresa Ludwick Review © 2007, Wcities |

A touch of Switzerland in Uptown |
2011 E 17th Avenue Denver, CO 80206 United States +1 303 333 5243 |
A family owned neighborhood bistro located in uptown, Dario's specializes in hearty Italian and German dishes with an authentic Swiss interpretation. The intimate dining room is crowded with tables almost too small for chairs; you are so close to neighboring diners that you might consider sharing a dessert. Still, however, the restaurant drips with romantic charm. Patio seating is available during the warm months. The Swiss Lasagna is a prime dish, as is the Wienerschnitzel. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italian to Die For |
3760 Tejon Street Denver, CO 80211 United States +1 303 455 9852 http://www.gaetanositalian.com/ |
In 1934, Denver's most notorious family, the Smalldones opened up an eatery in the North Side to become the heart of both Italian cuisine and an illicit operation. While drawing the neighborhood's attention to their famous pasta, they also drew the attention from police as Denver's only mafia operated in the basement. It's not quite the hoodlum hangout as it used to be as the Smalldone Empire has fallen and Denver's mayor bought Gaetano's, but the food hasn't changed and Chauncy Smalldone still stops by for lunch. Resident ghost and good food |
1433 Larimer Street Denver, CO 80202 United States +1 303 623 0166 |
Located in the heart of Larimer Square, this establishment bills itself as an unofficial Denver landmark. Ask your server about Amelia, the resident ghost, rumored to roam the floors. It is just some of the lore that makes this establishment truly authentic. The menu is extensive. Pasta, salad, chicken and pizza dishes abound. The wine list is just as large too. Low-key nightly music takes place in the separate bar area, and patrons are often invited on stage to assist with the vocals. Microbrews are plenty. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Chef Frank Bonanno's Sicilian upbringing is evident in every aspect of this fashionable restaurant - from the menu to the decor. Named after his son, Luca D'Italia was voted best restaurant in western United States by Zagat. With pastel walls and numerous candles, it's a great pick for a romantic evening out. Located in the Denver Pavilions, Maggiano's dim lights, dark wood and touches of red, white, and black create an atmosphere a New York godfather would love. He would probably appreciate the mounds of pasta as well. The test of any Italian restaurant is the Minestrone, and this one definitely passes. While some of the pasta dishes are bland, the hefty lasagna oozes cheese and its meat sauce has a deep, long-simmered flavor. The Tiramisu is a perfect finish to a hearty meal: light and delicious. This place is very family-friendly. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This family owned pizzeria is a real find. Pictures lining the wall trace the owner's family history, and old record jackets from the 1970s and 1960s hold the menu. You can choose from an array of innovative, thin crust specialty pizzas, including the all veggie Berkley, or build your own creation. Calzones and pasta round out the menu. Beer and wine are available. The hours listed are tentative, because the owners like to say they close when they get tired. Review © 2007, Wcities |

If you can manage the crowds, the cramped space, and do not mind a bit of noise, Pasquini's has some great pizza and calzones. Sure, the old space looks a bit run down inside, but the atmosphere, although extremely loud, is friendly and inviting. The starter garlic bread sticks are divine and the Vegetarian Calzone is quite good. A full bar complements the menu. For a calmer setting try the other location on 17th Avenue (+1 303 296 3525). Located in the Bonnie Brae neighborhood, this restaurant is famous for a saying that is posted above its entrance: "If you do not like GARLIC go home!"
