A taste of the Big Apple |
1628 East Evans Avenue Denver, CO 80210-4609 United States +1 303 744 3137 |
Anthony's spins New York-style, thin crust pizzas about the size of car tires, brimming with bubbling cheeses and all of your favorite toppings. The small, tattered dining area, complete with two pinball machines and a pool table, has seen better days, but the customers do not seem to mind. Carry out and delivery are available. Anthony's offers pizza by the big slice—perfect for folding. Or order a whole pizza. Simple salads and mediocre pasta are also on the menu. Downtown location: 1550 California St., +1 303 573 6236. Famous pizzeria in historic Idaho Springs |
2710 South Colorado Boulevard (at Yale) Denver, CO 80222 United States +1 303 758 1519 http://www.beaujos.com/ |
Forever recognized by the local press for its excellence, this pizza place is the home of Colorado's famous mountain pie. It offers seven sauces, nine cheeses, and two crusts, thick and thin, to choose from for each pie. And has exciting offers too - fill in your birthday details and get a $5 certificate in the mail during the birthday month. Calzones and a salad bar round out the menu, but do your taste buds a favor and opt for the pizza. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Join the family |
1585 South Pearl Street Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 303 744 2520 http://www.budapestbistro.com/ |
This family-owned bistro is one the city's few restaurants specializing in authentic Hungarian fare. The atmosphere has something of the Old World charm of a European café. Large storefront windows offer views of vibrant Pearl Street and a low-lit ambiance invites a bit of romance. The menu boasts hearty and heavy traditional favorites including Chicken Paprika and Stuffed Cabbage Rolls. If you are looking for Goulash, this bistro serves the best plate in the city. In addition, it offers a number of vegetarian dishes including Breaded Cauliflower. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Denver's best kept secret |
1446 South Broadway Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 303 282 1446 http://www.cafecero.net/ |
The usual reaction of anyone walking into this funky little cafe for the first time is "wow, I cannot believe I never heard about this place." Located in the unlikely area of Denver's Antique Row, Cafe Cero's interior of chandeliers, stained glass windows and adobe walls is unmatched. The Blue Room, in the balcony area, with sofas, antique end tables and muted candles is perfect for exchanging coy glances over wine and candlelight. The menu, which is small, features a variety of sandwiches. Facilities provided here include live entertainment, catering service, and banquet. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Artful taste |
1729 East Evans Avenue Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 303 777 7222 |
This small cafe is an artsy French spot full of comfy, flea market type furnishings. The quiche is always light and delicious and its salads use only the freshest greens with delicate dressings. The lasagna is a tasty, filling choice with a well-seasoned tomato sauce. While the dinner menu might be slight in choices (four varying meals rotate weekly), the unique flavor and professional presentation make their offering seem anything but limited. Reservations are not recommended; they are required. Note that small kids are frowned upon. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Casual and delicious |
2076 South University Boulevard Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 303 744 3591 |
This casual neighborhood restaurant has been around for a few years, which shows in the interior. Its menu, however, continues to impress even the pickiest of palates, especially with the recent addition of Paris trained chef, Patrick Lord. The lobster fodue makes for an outstanding appetizer. Entree selections include Veal Marsala, tenderloin of pork, and grilled lamb porter chops. An extensive and inexpensive wine list is available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Middle Eastern family-style |
2276 South Colorado Boulevard Denver, CO 80222-4914 United States +1 303 757 3515 |
Driving down Colorado Boulevard it is easy to pass right by Damascus. But tucked away in an unassuming strip mall, this small restaurant serves good Middle Eastern cuisine at an inexpensive price. Locals flock to the tiny, one room establishment and the tight space fills up quickly. Make a reservation if you are coming with a large group. The traditional hummus is tasty, especially spread over baked pita bread, fresh from the oven. Food presentation is rather simple, but the authentic taste will definitely satisfy your appetite. Working class pub |
1135 East Evans Avenue (at Downing) Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 303 778 6426 |
This popular pub does not possess a manufactured charm or upscale designer interior to draw in the crowds like many of the other downtown bars. Instead, Fagan's is a nice gathering place with a lived-in, rustic look that takes good care of its regulars and offers a friendly atmosphere for conversation and, of course, drinking. The menu is an interesting mix of Mexican food and traditional English fare. Try the chicken burrito or the tasty Shepherd's Pie. The full bar is stocked with Irish and English beers. 1890 East Evans Avenue Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 303 777 8828 / +1 303 777 8838 http://www.jerusalemrestaurant... |
The Jerusalem Restaurant rates as one of Denver's best choices for Middle Eastern cuisine, a fact evidenced by long waits for a table. Its menu, however, which offers tasty Pita Rollups stuffed with lamb or chicken, Babaghanouj and Falafel Patties, is well worth the wait. The restaurant tends to be crowded (especially with college kids after the bars close) and smoky but the outdoor patio is unbeatable on warm days. Vegetarian choices abound. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Health-friendly fast food |
2390 South Colorado Boulevard Denver, CO 80222 United States +1 303 692 8752 http://www.kokororestaurant.com/ |
This restaurant offers a fast-food version of Japanese fare, complete with a drive-up window. Nonetheless, cardiac-conscious consumers will be happy with its healthy meals. Popular with locals and corporate customers, the restaurant serves up a seemingly endless selection of inexpensive and delicious meals. Among the favorites are rice bowls topped with a combination of meats and crispy vegetables, all basted with a teriyaki glaze and bolstered with a bowl of rice. Side dishes are equally tasty. Upscale sports bar |
4100 East Mexico Avenue Denver, CO 80222 United States +1 303 300 6666 http://www.thelazydog.com |
This is one of the few sports bars that does not bang you over the head with sports memorabilia. Sure, you will find a nice collection of signed jerseys and autographed pictures, but they are not plastered over every nook and cranny. The wide-open dining room boasts two 10-foot televisions, while 26 other TVs are strategically positioned around the restaurant. Besides the usual bar food offerings it also serves steaks, specialty sandwiches such as the Boulder on the Coast (yellowfin tuna stuffed between focaccia bread), pasta and pizza. Specializing in Coastal Mexican fare, Lola offers an array of traditionally prepared dishes - from Ceviches and Smoked Duck Gorditas, to Whole Grilled Fish and Carne Asada smothered in dark molé. You can call the guacamole cart over to your table and get a whiff of the fresh tortillas, rich sauces and fiery chilies. Tequilas glow in the candlelight as margaritas are shaken to perfection. Outstanding lunch specials |
4251 East Mississippi Avenue (at Colorado) Denver, CO 80222 United States +1 303 757 4923 |
This restaurant is best known for exceptional weekday lunch specials, which attract big crowds, and is especially favored by the business set. Sweet and sour shrimp, and sesame chicken are just two of the over 50 lunch items here. If you are hankering for a little of everything, try the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for under eight dollars. Ming's also offers daily dinner deals, such as the 'Family Dinner Special'. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Beyond strip mall Chinese |
6265 East Evans Avenue Denver, CO 80222 United States +1 303 782 0300 |
Johnny Hsu, owner of the wildly popular Imperial, opened this upscale restaurant in an Asian-influenced strip mall to bring the east side of town a taste of his terrific Chinese cuisine. Although the place has not quite lived up to its reputation, it is still one of the better spots to order Chinese. Try a taste of the duck smoked in tea or the signature Sesame Chicken. Egg rolls, dumplings, and soup complement the entrees. A wide selection of pork, chicken, and beef dishes rounds out the menu. The spicy seafood dishes are highly recommended. Amazing bread sticks |
1310 South Broadway Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 303 744 0917 http://www.pasquinis.com |
If you can manage the crowds, the cramped space, and do not mind a bit of noise, Pasquini's has some great pizza and calzones. Sure, the old space looks a bit run down inside, but the atmosphere, although extremely loud, is friendly and inviting. The starter garlic bread sticks are divine and the Vegetarian Calzone is quite good. A full bar complements the menu. For a calmer setting try the other location on 17th Avenue (+1 303 296 3525). Expect a long wait, at times up to two hours on the weekend. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bar and kitchen |
1477 South Pearl Street Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 303 778 6475 http://www.pearlstreetgrillden... |
The Pearl Street Grill is legendary in the area for having great food and a great bar atmosphere. There is enough space between the bar and dining areas so one can exchange coy glances over quiet conversation with a spouse without worrying about an elbow in the spleen by a Happy Hour holdover. The back deck is unmatched in Denver for its atmosphere. In addition to the standard Mexican and burger fare, the menu also offers pork chops and a salmon filet. The beer menu is huge. Forget health food, and dig in |
2345 East Evans Avenue (at University) Denver, CO 80208 United States +1 303 733 7376 |
One word describes the food served at this neighborhood greasy spoon-grub. The owner has been a fixture in the Denver dining scene forever running such local favorites as Pete's Kitchen and the Satire Lounge. His latest venture, Pete's University Park Café, continues a long tradition of short order delights including an excellent Italian sausage sandwich and breakfast burrito. But the gyros and domades keep the crowds coming. Do not expect health food here unless you consider a side salad and grilled cheese sandwich diet food. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Lebanese cuisine |
2017 South University Boulevard Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 720 570 1900 |
This is one of the few Denver restaurants to offer authentic Lebanese and Mid-Eastern fare. The basic decor fails to capture the restaurant's Mid-Eastern roots, but nevertheless still attracts a strong business lunch crowd. For entrees one can get Beef Shawarma, or opt for the generous kabob combo, which features skewered lamb, chicken and kafta kabobs. All entrees include hummus, rice, pita bread, and choice of salad or soup. Lunch features traditional pita sandwiches like the falafel and gyro. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Atmosphere and more |
2334 South Colorado Boulevard Denver, CO 80222 United States +1 303 756 1268 http://www.poppiesdenver.com |
From outside appearances, Poppies does not hold great portent, but looks, in this case, are extremely deceiving. Plants, booths and a wooden interior cast an upscale, yet, casual feel that is popular with the business set, couples and neighborhood locals. The menu coddles to all tastes and includes sandwiches, steaks (New York Strip), Mexican fare, stir-fried veggies and seafood such as broiled salmon. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Szechuan and Mandarin |
1591 South Colorado Boulevard Denver, CO 80222 United States +1 303 758 7610 |
Serving authentic Szechuan and Mandarin cuisine, Red Coral is a popular spot for lunch (especially on the weekends) or dinner. The dining room is open and the staff is friendly. Lunch is particularly inexpensive. For a tasty change, try the spicy Jumbone Soup. It has a nice bite, and with all those noodles is almost a meal in itself. The menu offers more ways to do chicken than you would think possible. The standbys can be ordered without fear—most are good in an almost nostalgic kind of way. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Intimate experience |
2236 South Colorado Boulevard Denver, CO 80222 United States +1 303 300 2220 |
Sinbad is a small, homey restaurant with but just seven tables surrounded by walls adorned with pictures of Lebanon. The owner/chef hails from Lebanon and cooks up an authentic blend of Middle Eastern cuisine, with a specialty of Stuffed Zucchini Shrimp. Other delights include a spiced up lamb served on a bed of mixed vegetables. The inexpensive prices make this place one of the best dining values in the area. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eclectic and large |
1476 South Pearl Street Denver, CO 80210 United States +1 303 777 1031 |
There are so many different rooms in this coffee house, rumor has it that food is sold not to be eaten but for leaving a trail of crumbs for orientation purposes. The back rooms, a popular hang out with University of Denver students, features stacked bookshelves and mismatched tables. The huge front deck area is perfect for socializing. In addition to the usual coffee shop menu of hybrid cappuccinos, espressos, and herbal teas, the shop also sells pastries, sandwiches, fruit drinks and even a large variety of bulk coffee beans.
