Completed in 1902 by former Colorado governor James B. Grant, this colonial-style mansion includes over 42 rooms, some up to 60 feet long. The billiard room, bowling alley, auditorium and ballroom testify to the luxury of this wonderland. After Grant's death, the structure was purchased by Albert Humphreys. He installed an extravagant ten-car garage, car wash and gas pump for his Rolls Royces. This restored Victorian mansion, once the home of legendary Denver resident, Maggie (Molly) Brown, now serves as a popular museum, attracting more than 40,000 visitors a year. The museum explores the eccentric life of the 'Unsinkable Molly Brown', a Titanic survivor and eminent figure in the city's Gold Rush heritage. Established in 1951 as a soda fountain and pharmacy, this area landmark is straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The soda fountain offers sweet, hand-dipped chocolate milkshakes and serves the extras in the steel mixer. Over 100 microbrews are available for carryout, and an extensive wine department offers wines from around the world. The alcohol selection may seem unusual in this environment, and it is: this shop was "grandfathered in" (allowed to continue established business practices) after Colorado passed a law against selling liquor and groceries in the same place.
