City pedestrian mall |
16th Street Denver, CO 80202 United States +1 303 534 6161 http://www.downtowndenver.com/... |
The mall is a mile-long, tree-lined promenade stretching through the heart of downtown. Bustling with street vendors, souvenir shops, clothing and jewelry stores, and a plethora of bars and restaurants, this energetic strip offers plenty of variety. The Denver Pavilions, at the entrance of the mall, is a new open air-shopping plaza filled with trendy chains, including the Denver edition of the Hard Rock Café. The D & F Tower, a 325-foot replica of St. Mark's campanile in Venice, graces the center of the mall. The Tabor Center adds to the shopping enthusiasm. Free shuttles provide transportation up and down the mall, allowing for convenient cross-town sightseeing. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Contemporary culture meets history |
1400 Larimer Street Denver, CO 80202 United States +1 303 534 2367 http://www.larimersquare.com/ |
Nestled in historical lower downtown Denver, Larimer Square occupies a one-block strip of the city's oldest street, dating back to the 1860s. Lined with Victorian brownstones, the area is now a thriving shopping and entertainment district, flowing with activity. Spend the morning combing the ever-changing boutiques and clothing stores; then head over to Tamayo for lunch. For the afternoon, take a self-guided walking tour of the historical district (brochures are located at the information gazebo). In the evening, dine at the Little Russian Café, Josephina's, or the Del Mar Crab House. Then, dance until the wee hours at Lucky Star. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gourmet deli and coffee |
1445 Larimer Street Denver, CO 80202 United States +1 303 534 5140 |
Amidst all the tony restaurants and pulsing dance rooms on Larimer Street this gourmet deli lends a nice change of pace. Plank floors, wooden shelves filled with tea and coffee, and old-counters give it a look and feel more suited to the 1940s, but in a mysteriously hip way. The outdoor sidewalk tables are perfect perches for people watching. Pastry, bagels and breakfast burritos are popular morning choices. The lunch and dinner menu offers a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, and fresh deli salads. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fresh and refreshing |
2019 Market Street Denver, CO 80205 United States +1 303 298 1864 http://www.morisushibar.com |
The main thing to know about this restaurant is to not judge it by its woefully plain exterior. The interior whacks you with a "wow-this-is-nice" surprise and is highlighted by a glowing aquarium. And, perhaps, best of all, this "growing-in-popularity" gem serves some of the tastiest Japanese food in the city. The eggrolls are flavorful and left open on one side so as to allow for visual confirmation that "yes, they certainly are full of pork and vegetables." The sushi bar is outstanding and offers a long list of options. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Whether you are in search of an old map for decorative wall purposes or for historic reasons, this antique cartography shop can probably satisfy your pursuit. It carries maps of the United States as well as individual state maps, many of which date back to the 1700s. There are also period maps of just about every country in the world including such tiny lands as Sri Lanka and mystical Tibet. The shop tries to carry old books by Hemingway and such, but its selection is small at best. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Built in 1891, the Oxford Hotel, situated next to Union Station in LoDo, has endured more ups and downs than a roller coaster. The hotel, designed by Frank E. Brooke, renowned architect of the Brown Palace, served Denver's early Silver Boom. One stop Eastern shopping |
1925 Lawrence Street Denver, CO 80202 United States +1 303 295 0293 http://www.pacificmercantile.com |
Located downtown in Sakura Square, the Pacific Mercantile Company imports a wide variety of Asian grocery items including noodles, rice, seasonings, frozen food, cooking utensils, Sanrio products and more. The shop looks more like something one would find in San Franciso, or Seattle's Pike Street market. Neverthless, the selection is the best in the Denver area. Because it is so un-Denver like, it is just fun to roam around this store. Sakura Square also has a Japanese gift shop and bookstore. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This massive flagship store is not only a shop but also a tourist attraction. Housed in the historic Tramway Building, the folks at REI coughed up over $28 million to transform the old structure into an outdoor retail mecca. Besides the usual array of outdoor gear and clothing, it also offers a 45-foot climbing wall, mountain bike test trail, children's play area and a cold room to test winter parkas. It is the only store in the world where one can possibly leave with frostbite, rope burns and bike saddle sores. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Wine from around the world |
1512 Larimer Street Denver, CO 80202 United States +1 720 904 8460 |
Until now, finding a legitimate liquor store in downtown Denver that sold something other than quarts of generic beer and cheap, vinegary wine from the vineyards of North Dakota was next to impossible. But the prayers-as they say-of wine aficionados have been answered. Centrally located in Writer Square it is walking-convenient for guests staying downtown. Domestic vintages, mainly from California and Oregon, compose the brunt of the stock. Microbrews by the bottle and six-pack, and a modest choice of namebrand liquors are also carried.
