Borderline

Whimsical wood
1010 South Gaylord Street
Denver, CO 80209
United States
+1 303 733 6243
First reaction upon entering this shop is usually awe over all the things constructed from wood. Just about everything on its shelves are creatively carved wood products and include flower bouquets and even a decorative motorcycle made from whicker. In addition, one can find novelty animal woodcarvings, wall hangings, toys and imported women's clothing and jewelry. This is a perfect shop for someone bent on finding an unusual gift, or an odd accessory for the home.

As soon as you step inside this hobby shop, which claims to be, 'the world's largest model train store,' you get an immediate example of its expertise from a huge, meticulously detailed layout. The Peter Pan Principle of never growing up is alive and well at this shop for over 60 years. Within its walls one can find toy tracks and track accessories, scenery items, freight cars, locomotives of every type, decals, paint, power supplies, tools, how-to books and much more. For the true hobbyist there are also brass models and hard to find collectibles.

Gay themed bookshop
42 South Broadway
Denver, CO 80209
United States
+1 303 777 0766
This bookshop draws its name from the Kinsey Report's numerical rating of homosexuals on the sexual categorization chart. Although catering primarily to gay men, the shop's relaxing atmosphere is the perfect place to browse for the latest Maupin saga or Grimsley drama. A number of chairs scattered about its aisles provide a good place to begin a new read. Its selection covers a wide variety of topics, ranging from fiction and non-fiction, to memoirs and titles specifically dealing with gay issues.

Bring a bag of breadcrumbs so you do not get lost when visiting this labyrinth of literature. This seemingly tiny shop stretches into a tunnel of different little rooms, each of which is clandestinely marked with numbered paper signs. The shop, like most used bookstores, carries a good nest of paperback and hardbacks, but what distinguishes this from the rest is the vast selection of magazines. Back issues of Time, Newsweek, Life, Esquire and Rolling Stone are just a few samples of its vast stock. Most are sealed in plastic and chronologically shelved for easy search purposes.

From Feng Shui to Runes, from Zen to Tarot, this popular Washington Park bookstore is the perfect stop on your way to a higher spiritual plateau. Wafts of incense set the mood for browsing. Bells chime in the background blocking out every sound but the sound of your own thoughts. And you will need those to help concentrate on perusing the diverse selection of metaphysical titles spanning philosophy, religion, and self-help. Candles, incense, new age music, tarot cards and aromatherapy oils are also available.

Denver, CO 80209
United States

For couples, friends, or even families who enjoy riding together, but cannot seem to keep pace with each other, this shop is the bicycling balm. Hop on one of these two-seaters and never again will you hear strained cries to "slow down," or "maybe if you would not have had that second helping of glazed ham you could keep up". What really stands out with this shop is that it sells nothing but tandems. In fact, it is the largest tandem source in the Rocky Mountain west. Ask the staff a question and you will quickly realize that these people know their product.

Trout's Drygoods & Flyfishing

Trout matchmakers
1077 Old South Gaylord Street
Denver, CO 80209
United States
+1 303 733 3983
http://www.trouts.net
The log walls, fieldstone fireplace and giant throw rug makes this tiny shop look more like a private cabin rather than a neighborhood flyfishing store. Once you get beyond the decor, however, you will notice the shop has a fine selection of flies, rods and reels, Patagonia flannel shirts and other accessories. It also shelves a small library of flyfishing texts and guides. The store also offers flyfishing and casting classes throughout the year.

Twist & Shout

Solidly independent
2508 E. Colfax Avenue
Colfax & Columbine
Denver, CO 80206
United States
+1 303 722 1943
http://www.twistandshout.com
This record shop is a solidly independent store that recently expanded into two buildings. The value of over 20,000 pieces of vinyl is enhanced by the collection of new and used turntables for sale alongside dozens of lava lamps. The motley selection of music is too much for even one room. Dealing in over 100,000 new and used CDs, it offers a skilled staff to help customers find obscure treasures. Used CDs are updated daily and generally sell for under USD9.
