One of the older stores in the Michigan-born worldwide chain of Borders book stores, Borders on Woodward Avenue in downtown Birmingham is housed in a spacious two-story structure providing thousands of book and CD titles plus ample elbow room. Local pianists are often booked to perform on the baby grand on the ground floor, and book signings are common. The CDs in stock can be sampled from numerous listening stations and two outdoor balconies off the second floor cafe allow patrons to enjoy their coffee with a view and smoke, if they choose, at the same time.

http://www.thesomersetcollecti... Michigan's most upscale shopping mall is so impressed with its offerings that it calls itself a "collection," not a mall. Indeed, many shoppers would consider some of these stores works of art. Nordstrom, Ralph Lauren/Polo, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Co., Neiman-Marcus and Hudson's are among the top destinations. Even during the busiest shopping days, Somerset has an unusual air of decorum. It's the equivalent of putting New York's Fifth Avenue indoors. Several dining options rise above the typical mall fare, but then, you'd expect that from a place that doesn't consider itself a mall.
