Book Superstore |
34300 Woodward Ave Detroit, MI 48009 United States +1 248 203 0005 http://www.bordersstores.com |
One of the older stores in the Michigan-born worldwide chain of Borders book stores, Borders on Woodward Avenue in downtown Birmingham is housed in a spacious two-story structure providing thousands of book and CD titles plus ample elbow room. Local pianists are often booked to perform on the baby grand on the ground floor, and book signings are common. The CDs in stock can be sampled from numerous listening stations and two outdoor balconies off the second floor cafe allow patrons to enjoy their coffee with a view and smoke, if they choose, at the same time. Warehouse Utopia For Bibliophiles |
901 W Lafayette Blvd Detroit, MI 48226 United States +1 313 961 0622 http://www.rarebooklink.com/ |
Columnist William Safire says this old book warehouse is the top tourist attraction in Detroit. To bibliophiles, it is a must stop. On four floors of the old Advance Glove warehouse are close to a million titles, ranging from the popular to the obscure, covering all kinds of subjects. It's a treasure trove for book lovers, who can spend many happy hours wandering the aisles. Owner King moved here in 1983 after outgrowing his first location. He has published about 90 rare book catalogues and handled the papers of celebrities, sports stars and numerous auto magnates. There are two smaller King locations, one at Wayne State University and one in Ferndale. Review © 2007, Wcities |
