A chic, friendly hotel |
1000 Brush Avenue Greektown Detroit, MI 48226 United States +1 313 962 2323 / +1 800 772 2323 http://www.atheneumsuites.com |
This swank all-suites hotel in the heart of the Greektown/Bricktown area is well known for its exceptional guest service. It resides in a perfect location for business affairs, near the General Motors headquarters at Renaissance Center. The Atheneum is a converted 19th-century seed warehouse; its lobby is decorated with outsized murals from Greek mythology and the Trojan War. The hotel is surrounded by trendy bistros, clubs and restaurants, and one of the trendiest, Fishbone's Rhythm CafĂ©, is right on the premises. Visitors choose this spot for the nightlife, and it is also popular for romantic getaways. Families love it because the staff and policies are unusually kid-friendly. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hotel with prime airport location |
8600 Merriman Road Detroit, MI 48174 United States +1 734 728 7900 http://www.choicehotels.com/ |
For a brief business meeting or conference, this Clarion hotel is ideally located. It is practically on the runway of Detroit Metro Airport. That means you do not get scenery; you get jet noise. However, inside the hotel, there are enough of the standard amenities that it is easy to host a gathering. There is nothing special about the decor; it is a standard, clean, well-equipped hotel, with dining facilities inside and plenty of places to eat nearby. The swimming pool is outdoors, so that means it's an iffy proposition at least eight or nine months of the year. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Detroit's Tallest Building |
Renaissance Center (Evergreen Road) Detroit, MI 48243 United States +1 313 568 8000 / +1 800 228 9290 (Toll Free) http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-2... |
The tallest building in Detroit, this multi-towered, glass skyscraper is visible for many miles. Erected in 1976 and designed by architect John Portman, the RenCen, as it is widely known, was a controversial attempt at downtown revival. Much criticized at first for its isolated, fortress-like layout and its labyrinthine interior, it is now more user-friendly now that it serves as the General Motors Corporation's world headquarters. The guest rooms are perfect for the business traveler, and views from many rooms and restaurants in this riverside tower, Detroit's tallest building, are spectacular. The area has nightlife within walking distance. The central tower houses the Marriott Renaissance Hotel and a revolving restaurant, The Summit, at the top. Visitors can ride elevators to the 72nd floor observation tower for a panoramic view of Detroit and Windsor. Dozens of shops and restaurants, offering a wide variety of goods, dot the lower levels. Cozy retreat in Corktown |
1439 Bagley St Detroit, MI 48216 United States +1 313 965 1887 |
Corktown, less than a mile west of downtown Detroit, is the city's oldest neighborhood. Victorian-era homes have been refurbished by a new generation of owners. Most, like this rare Detroit bed and breakfast, have small, cozy rooms, and splendid woodwork and appointments. This home was built in 1887, and each guest room has a private bath. The location, near now-abandoned Tiger Stadium, is convenient to downtown and the temporary casinos, though the immediate neighborhood has few amenities besides a few bars and eateries. A fax, computer and printer are available, and the hosts can serve as great tour guides for Detroit. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Generous breakfasts and free afternoon drinks are included, and a restaurant and lounge are on the premises. The hotels resides on a suburban cul-de-sac, and you cannot walk anywhere from here, but shopping malls, restaurants and golf courses are a short drive away. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Once a star hotel and rising again |
2 Washington Blvd Detroit, MI 48226 United States +1 313 965 0200 |
Long gone are the days when major league baseball players gathered in the ornate lobby, but the "Pontch" has regained a touch of class lost during recent decades of deterioration. The hotel is built on the site of Fort Pontchartrain, the first European settlement in the city. Gold banisters and railings bespeak an elegance partially obscured by several renovations, but this 25-story hotel retains an authentic Motown ambience that mixes the nitty-gritty with the glittery. Rooms range from spacious to cramped, and the views can be anything from splendid, when overlooking the river, to mediocre. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Elegant waterfront haven |
1000 River Place Detroit, MI 48207 United States +1 313 259 9500 / +1 800 843 6664 http://www.omnihotels.com/hote... |
The only hotel in the city with a championship croquet court, the recently renovated Omni River Place has sophistication unusual for Detroit. Many of its guest rooms overlook the river, and it even has its own boat docking facilities. It also features the Waterfront Pavilion for events. The location is east of the Renaissance Center and not within walking range of any part of downtown. Dining options beyond the restaurant on the premises are limited. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sumptous interiors belie sterile surroundings |
300 Town Center Drive Fairlane Plaza Detroit, MI 48126 United States +1 313 441 2000 http://www.ritzcarlton.com/hot... |
The Ritz-Carlton is arguably the most sophisticated hotel in metropolitan Detroit. Its sterile surroundings; a retail/office plaza on the fringe of a large mall; are deceiving. Inside, splendid art objects and antiques adorn the lobby and public areas and provide a European flavor. Crystal chandeliers, marble floors, custom fabrics and china are among the regal details. Close by Ford World Headquarters and Greenfield Village, the Ritz is conveniently located between downtown and the airport. An executive floor and club level provide an aristocratic air and add a cosmopolitan flavor unusual in Detroit. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Accommodation with European aristocratic accents |
100 Townsend Street Detroit, MI 48009 United States +1 248 642 7900 http://www.townsendhotel.com/ |
A European-style city hotel in downtown Birmingham, the Townsend is one of the most elegant places to stay in the Midwest. A recent expansion has added dozens of new rooms and a state-of-the-art health club. Each room has marble baths, traditional furnishings, down pillows, French soap, fine Belgian linens and a balcony. There is round-the-clock concierge service. The Presidential and Penthouse suites have separate dining rooms and parlors ideal for meetings or parties. With its marble floors, cherry paneling, Waterford chandeliers and murals, this is the closest thing to a Manhattan or Parisian hotel one can find in Michigan. Review © 2007, Wcities |
