Early Christrian island |
Lambay Island Dublin, Leinster +353 1 605 7700 (Dublin Tourism) |
Located some 16km off the Dublin coast, Lambay Island was originally one of Ireland's early Christian monasteries, looted by Viking raiders in 795AD. Now privately owned, Lambay is home to a medieval castle, a bird sanctuary and a herd of about 200 deer. Due to its deep surrounding waters, the island is a particularly popular location for scuba-divers. The island is accessible only by prior permission from Rogerstown Harbour, 27km north of Dublin in Rush. Review © 2009, Wcities |
