Enthusiastic about film |
Klosterstraße 78 Innenstadt Dusseldorf, NRW 40211 Germany +49 211 35 3635 |
In the midst of D?orf's otherwise dismal cinema scene, Bambi, which was taken over by Metropol, has developed a good reputation as a cinema for premiers. Bambi was awarded prizes twice last year by the North Rhine Westphalia Film Foundation - for its splendid selection and excellent children's programme. There are two cinemas, the Large Cinema and the Small Cinema. Large Cinema: Wonderful large room with wood paneling in a fifties style. There are 135 seats and the screen is 5 x 2.20m. There is a stereo sound system. Small Cinema: 55 seats with a screen size of 4 x 1.80m. Reservation is possible and the box office opens half an hour before the film begins. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Schulstraße 4 Karlstadt Dusseldorf, NRW 40213 Germany +49 211 899 2490 |
The Black Box cinema in the Film Museum was last year, like Bambi, awarded two prizes by the North Rhine Westphalian Film Foundation for its splendid programme. Having been in the hands of Metropol Cinematic Art p.l.c. since 1998, Black Box offers, as it did before, an above average good listing of challenging films. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Immersion in the film |
Worringer Straße 142 Innenstadt Dusseldorf, NRW 40210 Germany +49 211 177 1721 http://www.imax-filmtheater.de/ |
The IMAX Film Theatre has existed in Dsseldorf since the 16th July 1998 and it was the first IMAX film theatre to be integrated into a multiplex cinema, namely the UFA-Palast. With a huge screen of 340 square metres, the emphasis here lies on 3D films such as New York 3D and Siegfried and Roy 3D - the masters of illusion. With the special IMAX technology, which even received an Oscar in 1997, the picture, which is about ten times as big as a traditional 35mm film, is projected onto the huge screen. The public not only SEES the film but has the feeling of actually BEING in the film. If you want to experience this immersion in the film then you should come to the IMAX on Mondays and Tuesdays - you only pay (EUR 4.50). There are 298 seats, spaces adapted for wheelchairs are available. The screen size is 17x20m and the sound system is a six channel four way 32,000 watt digital system. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sixty years of cinematic art |
Brunnenstraße 20 Bilk Dusseldorf, NRW 40223 Germany |
The oldest cinema in Dorf, which celebrated its sixtieth birthday in June, was awarded a prize by the North-Rhine Westphalian Film Foundation in the last year for its splendid programme. Wonderful yet demanding German and European films, beyond the mainstream, are the focus of the Metropol's programme. They offer a variety which cannot be found elsewhere in Dorf. There are two halls with a 145 seater Cinerama, a screen of 7x3m and a Dolby Stereo system, as well as a 70mm four channel stereo projection phantom with 52 seats. Reservation is possible and the box office opens half an hour before the film begins. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Small but good |
Schneider-Wibbel-Gasse 5-7 Altstadt Dusseldorf, NRW 40213 Germany |
Taken over by the Metropol Cinematic Art in 1998, the Neue Cinema in the Old Town offers, as before, a splendid programme, for which it was commended by the North Rhine Westphalian Film Foundation. As a première cinema, the Neue Cinema enjoys just as good a reputation as the Bambi and new previews of unusual films, which lie somewhat away from mainstream films. Review © 2007, Wcities |
