Dominion

Family-run cinema
18 Newbattle Terrace
Morningside
Edinburgh EH10 4RT
United Kingdom
+44 131 447 4771
This family-run cinema has a very cosy feel, entirely in keeping with the status of its owners. Enter the evocative 1930s art deco interior and choose between the four screens. Movies tend towards family flicks, but you will find the odd "18" cropping up on the programme. Light bites and refreshments are on sale in the cafe until the end of play.

Be a part of history

Edinburgh EH1 3AA
United Kingdom

One of Britain's most successful theatres, the Edinburgh Playhouse has a history as colorful as its event lineup. Since its opening in 1929, it has endured ownership changes, slumps in attendance, and political wrangling to become the popular venue it is today. You can catch performances like The Nutcracker, Carmen, and even Lord Of the Dance.

Lumiere

Museum screen showing arthouse films
Royal Museum, Chambers Street
Edinburgh EH1 1JF
United Kingdom
+44 131 247 4219
Situated at the back of the Royal Museum on Chamber Street is this wee cinema with cafe-bar attached. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the 278 capacity cinema shows a programme of foreign and experimental arthouse films. For horror fans, the Lumiere hosts the brief but blood-curdling Dead by Dawn festival in the spring. A more high-profile event is the well-known Edinburgh International Film Festival. With only one screen and small attendances, this new venue has a uniquely intimate atmosphere.

Tickets: adults £4.50; concessions £2.50.
