Kildonan Lodge Hotel |
27 Craigmillar Park City of Edinburgh EH16 5PE United Kingdom +44 131 667 2793 http://www.kildonanlodgehotel.... |
Not too far from the lovely Blackford Hill park and loch, this immaculately restored Victorian home is a real treat for those not needing to be in the city centre. The rooms are decorated in a classy contemporary fashion with period twists. Bold colour combinations offset by antique replica furniture, such as canopied four poster beds, really set this place apart from the run-of-the-mill flowered chintz. In this elegant historical setting you'll find all modern conveniences, a car park, the Honesty bar in the lounge and great garden views from well-lit rooms. For those seeking the height of luxury, there is a room with a jacuzzi en suite. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Secluded fairy-tale site |
Craigend Park Edinburgh EH16 5XX United Kingdom +44 131 664 9694 |
Kingston House occupies a fairy-tale site with turrets and clusters of attic windows, secreted in self-contained gardens near the Liberton golf course. It's some way into town (about three miles to Princes Street) but worth it perhaps, for the uniqueness of the building alone. The interior of this Category A listed Victorian mansion has retained much of its period grandeur. There is an imposing staircase and a handsome varnished wood reception area. Each room has an individual charm and excellent facilities. Review © 2007, Wcities |

17th century grandeur |
Prestfield Road Edinburgh EH16 5UT United Kingdom +44 131 668 3346 |
Peacocks strut their stuff in front of this 17th century mansion, which became a hotel in 1959. It is almost at the foot of Arthur's Seat and is surrounded by Holyrood Park. A recent refurbishment has extended the building and added 26 luxury bedrooms. The grandeur of the architectural features is complimented by period portraits and furnishings. The Tapestry Room holds a special charm - the man who designed its ceiling, Sir William Adam, is also responsible for the decorated ceilings in the Holyroodhouse Palace. The Leather Room's walls are adorned with exquisite red Spanish hide. For golf enthusiasts, there is an 18-hole course next door. Review © 2007, Wcities |
