Educational and touring titles |
19 George IV Bridge Edinburgh EH1 1EH United Kingdom +44 131 226 5561 |
Located just off the Royal Mile, this two-floor bookstore is stacked to the ceiling with all sorts of things: from maps, tourist guides, magazines, to educational and fictional titles. Admittedly, it's not the most glamorous of shops, but it is brimming with bookish character and as such is a treasure trove of interesting titles. It is well worth a browse, especially if you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary. It's particularly popular with students and Edinburgh's literati. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Booksellers since revolutionary days |
53-59 South Bridge Edinburgh EH1 1YS United Kingdom +44 131 556 6743 |
Since opening in 1848, this traditional bookshop has remained one of Scotland's best and most popular. A favorite with students and academics, it has a comprehensive range of titles covering subjects far and wide - if they can't source what you're looking for then nobody can. If you need pens, paper and folders, they have a very good stationery department here. For travelers and walkers, the travel section has a great range of guides and maps. There is also a great second-hand section on the third floor. Check out the other James Thin branch in George Street, which has a charming cafe. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bustling Shopping District |
Princes Street Edinburgh United Kingdom |
Princes Street has its fair share of quality shops, from the elegance of Jenners, the most traditional of department stores (which has big designer names, good quality restaurants and a fantastic food hall) - to the ubiquitous high street names of Boots, Gap, Debenhams and the House of Fraser. Just south of Princes Street are the Princes Street Gardens with Calton Hill to the east and The National Gallery of Scotland and The Royal Scottish Academy to the west. The famed Hogmanay celebrations are centered in Princes Street Gardens and Princes Street itself. Truly a center for shopping and culture, Princes Street is must see. Review © 2007, Wcities |
