Badiani

Home of Buontalenti Gelato
Viale dei Mille 20r
Florence 50131
Italy
+39 055 578 682
http://www.buontalenti.it/
Apparent by the double-parked cars out front, people come from all around to enjoy Badiani's. It is said that the much loved flavor Buontalenti was created here! This unique cream-flavored gelato was said to have been named after Bernardo Buontalenti, the famous Mannerist architect and artist. He is believed to have invented frozen dessert (made of cream and fruits) for the Medici's extravagant court banquets. Among the most popular flavors are: Buontalenti, Pinolata, Stracciatella...but there are many more including lighter fruit flavors. Also offering fresh pastries, the cream and apple sfogliatelle are well worth a trip. -Maria Frullini

Godò

Tuscan Tavern
Piazza Tommaso Alva Edison 3
Florence 50131
Italy

http://www.godofirenze.it/
At the foot of the Fiesole hill in a small tree-lined square, Godò, designed to look like an old-fashioned osteria, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are two dining rooms, featuring a beautiful wooden counter typical of Tuscan osterie, as well as some outdoor tables. The menu, written on a blackboard outside the restaurant, changes daily. Pasta, soups, salads, vegetables and some meat are served at lunch, while the evening menu (in traditional Tuscan style) focuses on meat dishes. Fish is served on Friday including Cacciucco, a local fish soup cooked with tomato and red wine typical of the Tuscan coast. -Maria Frullini

Piccola Italia

Traditional Florentine restaurant
Viale Mazzini, 25r
Florence 50136
Italy
+39 55 24 4140
Since 1912, this typical Florence restaurant has maintained a high profile as well as a faithful following, due to its good food and low prices. Among the homemade main courses, the tomato ravioli and the excellent minestra di farro are among the best, although the bollita di manzo occupies the place of honor on the menu. Fish is served on Fridays. The wine list is good as are the house wines.

Rugby Pub

Atmospheric bar close to the city's stadium
Viale Paoli, 21
Florence 50136
Italy

Situated opposite the city stadium, and inside the rugby club's grounds, this pub is great for both after dinner drinks, or dinner itself, with pizza, focaccia and salad on the menu. Particularly good are the crêpes with Nutella, strawberries and Grand Marnier. For beer lovers, there is an endless selection of brews on tap or in bottles.

Trattoria le Cave di Maiano

Dining al Fresco
Via delle Cave 16
Florence 50016
Italy

On warm summer evenings it is a pleasure dining al fresco under the Linden trees in the back garden of this old fashioned trattoria in the hills of Fiesole just outside Florence. Opened in 1897, the restaurant used to be a popular spot with the workers of the Maiano sandstone quarries (cave in Italian) that supplied the gray stone used to in many of the Renaissance Florentine buildings. The quarries are no longer in use but the restaurant remains a peaceful getaway. Regional cooking is highlighted with local fresh products and a great deal of attention to old, traditional recipes. Hot and cold crostini, "chicken under a brick" and grilled meat are delicious choices. -Maria Frullini
