Home of Buontalenti Gelato |
Viale dei Mille 20r Florence 50131 Italy +39 055 578 682 http://www.buontalenti.it/ |
Apparent by the double-parked cars out front, people come from all around to enjoy Badiani's. It is said that the much loved flavor Buontalenti was created here! This unique cream-flavored gelato was said to have been named after Bernardo Buontalenti, the famous Mannerist architect and artist. He is believed to have invented frozen dessert (made of cream and fruits) for the Medici's extravagant court banquets. Among the most popular flavors are: Buontalenti, Pinolata, Stracciatella...but there are many more including lighter fruit flavors. Also offering fresh pastries, the cream and apple sfogliatelle are well worth a trip. -Maria Frullini Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tuscan Tavern |
Piazza Tommaso Alva Edison 3 Florence 50131 Italy +39 055 583 881 http://www.godofirenze.it/ |
At the foot of the Fiesole hill in a small tree-lined square, Godò, designed to look like an old-fashioned osteria, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are two dining rooms, featuring a beautiful wooden counter typical of Tuscan osterie, as well as some outdoor tables. The menu, written on a blackboard outside the restaurant, changes daily. Pasta, soups, salads, vegetables and some meat are served at lunch, while the evening menu (in traditional Tuscan style) focuses on meat dishes. Fish is served on Friday including Cacciucco, a local fish soup cooked with tomato and red wine typical of the Tuscan coast. -Maria Frullini Review © 2007, Wcities |
