Al Lume di Candela

Great fish dishes
Via delle Terme, 23r
Florence 50123
Italy
As indicated by the name, you can enjoy an intimate evening in this small restaurant which is popular with the people of Florence. First courses might include spaghetti with crabmeat, taglierini with Porcini mushrooms with sage, sheets of freshly-made puff-pastry with tails of mazzancolle with red pepper. For the second courses, side of veal white truffle, rabbit with prunes, large scampi with tarragon. The desserts are all home-made and are particularly good. The menu of regional wines is also very good. Warm and elegantly decorated surroundings provide the perfect context for the unobtrusive service.

Florence is popular especially with American students. However, there is plenty for other business or leisure travellers. Golden View Open Bar is the perfect place to dine for light Mediterranean or traditional Florentine cuisine, such as ribollita, the classic Tuscan vegetable soup, or the infamous Florentine steak. Accompanied with live jazz music, an impressive wine selection, and waiters that always encourage "just one more bottle" keep the restaurant lively. And then there's the elegance that comes with sipping your wine with the Arno River just right out the window.

Il Cibreo

Celebrity favourite
Via dei Macci, 118r
Florence 50122
Italy
+39 55 234 1100
Tucked away in the heart of the historic district of Santa Croce, this beautifully kept restaurant's old-fashioned charm and flair for authentic local cuisine have made it a popular haunt of the rich and famous. Don't come here looking for basic dishes and ordinary meats: expect exotic cuts of various types of local wild game. Given a light new touch, revamped traditional fare features on its inspirational menu of starters, main courses and desserts. Great wine list too. If you're looking to save a bit, go around the corner to their trattoria Il Cibreino. The secret? Same menu (minus a couple items), same kitchen, lower prices - it's just knowing which door to go through. Also within the same block are their Caffè and shop, and their Dinner Theatre. You're guaranteed a good time in this neighborhood if you venture over here for lunch or dinner.

Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco

Outstanding Boar & Tuscan Cuisine

This lovely, small restaurant in the Oltrarno (not too far from the Ponte Vecchio) offers authentic Tuscan cuisine at fair prices. Absolutely delicious pappa al pomodoro (tomato and bread soup), ribollita (a traditional Tuscan soup made of bread, beans and other greens) and homemade pastas (strozzapreti, pappardelle, taglierini, etc.). Also not to miss are the seasonal dishes made from fresh Porcini mushrooms (grilled or deep-fried) and the dishes that give this restaurant their name: cinghiale, or wild boar. Excellent red or white house wines are available by the half-liter or liter. Reservations are strongly recommended, or come at 6:30p when they open and Massimo will seat you with a smile and his recommendations for the day.

Osteria del Milione

Dining in the Tuscan Countryside

The Osteria del Milione offers visitors to Florence the perfect opportunity to experience the countryside and dine outside the historic center. The menu features local and homemade ingredients, including their own meats, making for an excellent bistecca alla fiorentina (T-Bone steak typically served very rare and with a lemon wedge) and other Florentine specialties like pappa al pomodoro and ribollita. Expect homemade meals, local roasted game, and a lovely outdoor dining experience when the weather allows it. Buon appetito!

A Sicilian restaurant where you can taste the fresh and simple regional cookery of the island. Amongst the specialties there are fresh oysters, seasoned salmon, boiled octopus and sea food salad. The pasta first courses are all made with fish or seafood. For the second course you can order different kinds of lobster. The wines are good, especially the choice of whites. The restaurant wins one over with its location in an amazing wooden chalet on the Arno. It has a warm and romantic atmosphere.
