Classic Tuscan cuisine |
Via Sant'Onofrio, 1r Florence 50123 Italy +39 55 21 7134 |
This attractive restaurant serves traditional dishes, made from genuine ingredients with simple flavours, in a typical, Florentine inn atmosphere. The menu is classic and includes specialties such as ribollita, tagliatelle, Florentine tripe, fried brain and Florentine steak. There is also a good choice of classic Chianti. The 16th-century rooms are furnished in a sober style, with a lot of wood with period furnishings and decorations. In the summer, visitors can eat outside in the adjoining piazza. They also sell other Mediterranean specialties such as Greek salad, and sweets such as baklava, which has almonds, pistachio and honey. Customers eat standing up inside. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Welcoming atmosphere |
Via delle Belle Donne, 16r Florence 50123 Italy +39 55 238 2609 |
This restaurant can be rather hard to find; the entrance is a narrow, green door which leads directly into a welcoming atmosphere, popular both with locals and tourists. The service is prompt, friendly and attentive. The set menu is written up on the wall and the dishes change according to season and are made with fresh ingredients. The vegetable and salad starters are particularly good. There is also a good choice of Tuscan and Italian wines. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Don't miss the wild boar |
Via del Trebbio, 1r Florence 50123 Italy +39 55 21 3768 |
This is one of the oldest restaurants of its kind in the city, with a few centuries of history behind it. In 1880 Orazio Lapi was named as the head of the Antinori and gave his name to this place. Since then dukes, princes and many famous people have passed through these doors. Some of the best and most authentic Tuscan cuisine is served here. One of the starters is ribollita made with aromas of the orchard and wild boar pappardelle. The wild boar maremmana is also not to be missed, as is the grilled goat. They also serve excellent Tuscan and regional wines. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Trattoria popular with famous personalities |
Via del Parioncino, 26r Florence 50123 Italy +39 55 28 7178 |
Near the Palazzo Rucellai in the heart of the city centre, this old pub brings to mind the Osterie of the past. The clientèle include important personalities from the world of politics and theatre. Its family-run management guarantees very good service. Amongst the most popular dishes there are the ribollita, the zuppa di lampredotto (eel soup) and the arista di maiale (pork roast). It is possible to order the best quality steaks of the region, but this must be ordered in advance. On Thursday they serve tripa alla fiorentina (tripe served in a red-tomato sauce) and on Fridays there is dried cod. The list of Italian, French and Californian wines is reasonable. This restaurant's attractive menu and unusual décor of frescoes and bare brick walls are all part of its popular appeal. Food is so wonderfully presented that it seems almost a shame to touch it, but worse still would be not to taste it at all. If in doubt what to go for, just try a bit of everything! Just a couple of steps away from the main station, this restaurant cooks good fish at good prices, and the service is excellent. The freshness of the fish is guaranteed here because the dishes change according to market availability. Among the antipasti are oysters, Venus clams, sardines and a marinated salmon carpaccio. First courses include fresh pasta with fish sauce, lobster and scampi. Main courses include fish cooked in various, but always interesting, ways. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Friendly trattoria |
Via Cennini, 6r Florence Italy +39 55 21 8623 |
This place was once popular with the porters from the Santa Maria Novella railway station, but is now a place to go when you want to eat some traditional food. You should start with the classic chicken liver crostini and the tasty croquettes, then move on to the pappa al pomodoro, the ribollita (a grain soup), or the pappardelle with rabbit sauce. Obviously you can't leave without trying the steak alla fiorentina cooked over charcoal. You can accompany all this with a good Chianti della Rufina. It has two dining rooms and can seat 50 people. If you have not booked in advance and are compelled to wait outside in the street - do not despair, you will be brought a snack to make your wait more pleasurable. The Florentine steak is without comparison, made from the choicest cuts of meat. Old-Style Trattoria |

Trattoria Marione is an authentic old style trattoria in the heart of Florence, just off the elegant via Tornabuoni. It is always crowded and quite often there is a line out the door. Local home style cooking is the trademark of the place, with typical dishes such as Crostini Toscani. They specialize in traditional bread soups like Ribollita and pappa al pomodoro, but the zuppa di farro (made from spelt, a grain popular in Tuscany) and classic mixed boiled and roasted meats are also particularly tasty. Friendly service and great food at reasonable prices! -Maria Frullini Review © 2007, Wcities |

Simple, Delicious Tuscan Fare |
Via dell Porcellana 25/r Florence 50123 Italy +39 055 212 691 |
Reservations are necessary to score a seat at this small, narrow restaurant. In operation since 1869, the trattoria excels at the yummy, no-frills cuisine for which Tuscany is famous. Their specialties include steak, chicken, artichoke pie and tripe. These deceptively plain-sounding dishes are the backbone of a hand-written menu. Lining the walls of the trattoria are framed scrapbook pages that feature photos and scribbled accolades of celebrity customers – among them poet Ezra Pound, novelist John Steinbeck, artist Marc Chagall and director Steven Spielberg, who dined here just two years ago. -Hana Alberts Review © 2007, Wcities |
