Football Craziness |
Piazza Santa Croce Florence 50100 Italy +39 55 261 6051 |
Reintroduced in 1930, Florences Calcio Storico is football at its zaniest. Four city teams of 27 players each combine with little in the way of refereeing. Local pride is at stake and each district cheers on its own team and colors. Join in this unique spectacle and watch the final played on June 30th, feast day of the citys patron saint San Giovanni Battista. The other matches are played on the two Sundays before the finals. Saint John's feast day |
Various locations Florence 50100 Italy +39 55 2 3320 |
Make merry like the locals do. You will find most shops remain closed as the extensive street festivities go on throughout the day. The cause for celebration is the city's patron Saint San Giovanni (Saint John), whose feast day is on Jun 24th. Some specific highlights of the fun festivities include the regatta, which assembles near the Ponte Vecchio as well as the impressive fireworks display organized in Piazzale Michelangelo around 10p.
