Grapefruit league Spring training |

The Boston Red Sox come to City of Palms Park in downtown Fort Myers every spring for Grapefruit League baseball. The American League Sox begin reporting in mid-February, and games run until the end of March. Box tickets are reasonably priced and so is the general admission cost. City of Palms Park seats almost close to 6,990, and there are a lot of expatriate Bostonians in Florida, so advance purchase is recommended. Park (for a cash fee) next to the ballpark. Fun atmosphere and great food |
15001 Captiva Road Fort Myers, FL 33924 United States +1 239 472 5558 http://www.bubbleroomrestauran... |
If you want to dine someplace tasteful and quiet, do not go to The Bubble Room but if you want great food and atmosphere, head there right away. The restaurant is stuffed with toys, Christmas ornaments and other paraphernalia collected over the years. Do not get full on tropical drinks, Bubble Bread and salad before the entrée comes. The Eddie Fisherman is grouper poached in a paper bag and the desserts are heavenly. The management does not take reservations so try to be there when the restaurant opens, or be prepared to wait. Cayo Costa State Park Fort Myers, FL 33921 United States +1 941 964 0375 |
Cayo Costa State Park is one of Florida's best-kept secrets. The barrier island is only accessible by boat. Activities include hiking, swimming, fishing and shelling. If you go swimming, there are no lifeguards, but there is a shark named Old Henry. You can camp in tents or rent cabins for USD20 per night. There is no electricity on the island, and all supplies must be brought with you. There are bathrooms and showers. Watch for wildlife, like raccoons and wild hogs. Cabins must be reserved 11 months in advance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fuel, dock and launching ramp |
1300 Lee St Fort Myers, FL 33901 United States +1 239 334 8271 |
The marina at the City of Fort Myers Yacht Basin has a well-marked entrance and is located on the south side of the Caloosahatchee River, between the Edison and Caloosahatchee Bridges. It offers fuel, an overnight dock, convenience store, ramp, showers, shore power, and free pump-out. The 246 slips fill up during events like the Edison Festival of Lights, so reservations are recommended. There is 10 feet of water in the channel and eight feet at some docks, with little or no current. Restaurants and hotels are nearby. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Historic homes of inventors |
2350 McGregor Boulevard Fort Myers, FL 33901 United States +1 239 334 7419 http://www.edison-ford-estate.... |
Probably the most famous tourist attraction in Fort Myers is the Edison Ford Winter Estates. Inventor Thomas Edison began wintering along the Caloosahatchee River in 1886. In 1916, Edison's friend Henry Ford built his winter home, Mangoes, next door. Both are open to the public and include Edison's botanical gardens and laboratory (just as Edison left it), the largest banyan tree in Florida and a museum. Guided tours are required. Admission is USD12 for adults, USD5.50 for children. The historic electrical boat river tour costs an additional USD4. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Open since 1990, Flamingo Island was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and is Naples' premier resort course. The design features multi-level tees, undulating greens, and hourglass fairways bordered by enormous mounds, pine trees, and Sabal palms. Also characterized by fingered sand bunkers and water on 13 holes. The #14 island hole is a very memorable, signature hole! If you are looking for a less challenging round, play Lely's Mustang. As stated in Southern Links Magazine, golf legend Gene Sarazen once said to Robert Trent Jones Sr., "The Lely Flamingo Island Club is the best golf course in Naples." The Lely Flamingo Island Club also provides headquarters for our resident PGA Tour Player. Lely Resort golf school available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

15271 McGregor Blvd Fort Myers, FL 33908 United States +1 239 415 4009 |
Although located in a shopping center, Pinchers Crab Shack's décor and fresh seafood give it that waterfront feel. For appetizers, try conch fritters or chicken wings (wimpy or painful). The fresh seafood includes crabs (naturally!), shrimp, oysters, and clams. Blue crab is a particular favorite. Outdoor seating is under umbrellas on a deck. Happy hour, serving beer and wine, lasts from 11am to 7pm. Reservations are recommended. There's no smoking inside, but it's allowed at the outside tables. Another location is at 3300 Bonita Beach Road in Bonita Springs. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Dining in romantic Southern comfort |
2122 Second St (at Broadway) Fort Myers, FL 33901 United States +1 239 332 2065 http://www.verandarestaurant.com/ |
The Veranda is considered by most to be one of the best restaurants in Fort Myers. Originally built as two homes in 1902, they were joined by a kitchen and a tropical courtyard and re-opened in 1978 as The Veranda. Dining in the courtyard is relaxing and romantic, surrounded by lush foliage, a waterfall and a goldfish pond. Reservations are highly recommended, and dress is business casual.
