Just as the city itself is full of contrasts, so too is the list of places to stay. Whether you want the intimacy of a bed and breakfast, the amenities of an ultra-modern luxury hotel, or just a reasonably priced, clean room to sleep in after a day of sightseeing, there is lodging to suit you and your wallet.

Downtown

For a romantic step back in time, book at the Azalea Plantation Bed and Breakfast, which is just 10 minutes from either downtown or the Stockyards. A replica of a southern plantation, the two-acre location has four individual rooms, each decorated in a different 19th century mode, with private baths. Magnificent magnolias, oaks, and azaleas, along with a lovely fountain and gazebo, complete the memory making.

Etta's Place in Sundance Square is also a step back in time, with a rather bawdy atmosphere: Etta Place was said to be Butch Cassidy's girlfriend and the mastermind of some of his later escapades! Each of the 10 rooms here is named for members of Cassidy's Hole In The Wall Gang and their female companions. Furnished with antique reproductions, as well as the modern amenities essential to a business traveler, all have private baths.

Another charming property is the Texas White House Bed and Breakfast, a 1910 colonial revival home near downtown. Decorated in elegant country style, it has been designated an historic building by the City of Fort Worth. Full breakfast is served, and you can order dinner for an additional fee. Visitors can enjoy a quiet evening in rocking chairs on the large wrap-around porch after dinner, or retreat to their sitting rooms for more privacy.

For a more modern accommodation, Park Central Hotel Fort Worth is ideal for the family or the businessperson. It is just across from the Convention Center and four blocks from Sundance Square, and the Bass. Plenty of light and working area are available if you need them, or just enjoy the restful color schemes while you plan your next day.

Radisson Plaza Hotel Fort Worth is right in the middle of all the downtown action. It boasts a two-story atrium lobby and a comfortably elegant seating area. Its recently renovated rooms are equally posh, with French doors dividing the bedroom and living room areas, contemporary Southwestern decor, ceiling fans, and living plants everywhere.

For a more economical stay downtown, Ramada Plaza Hotel offers typical Ramada comfort without flattening your wallet. Two full service restaurants, an onsite lounge, and airy spacious rooms are just three reasons to stay here. A free breakfast buffet helps to ensure a pleasant stay; kids stay free when accompanied by an adult. The Ramada Inn Midtown also enjoys the solid Ramada reputation.

Clarion Hotel Performing Arts Center Fort Worth is a luxury property located just behind the Bass and in the middle of everything downtown has to offer. The recently remodeled rooms (296 of them) have king-sized beds, tasteful wall coverings, and coordinating carpets; most offer lovely views of downtown.

The ultimate in downtown luxury is the Renaissance Worthington Hotel. Huge and recently renovated (as have been many of the city's older hotels), it boasts spacious rooms with plenty of amenities for either business or pleasure travelers. Multiple onsite restaurants and bars, pool and workout facility mean that you never have to leave the building, but you would be missing a lot of fun that is in easy walking distance.

Stockyards/North

The Stockyards Hotel is a living legend in the historic Stockyards. Built in 1907, the hotel has 52 rooms and suites in three stories and combines Victorian, Native American, Western, and Mountain Man styles of décor. The walls and common areas are loaded with turn-of-the-century memorabilia; it is said that the infamous bandits Bonnie and Clyde once slept here.

Once known as the Exchange Hotel, Texas Hotel has catered to cattlemen and celebrities since the 1930s. Its location in the heart of the Stockyards and moderate pricing make it the ideal venue for business or pleasure in the Stockyards area. Antique furniture and early twentieth-century knick-knacks decorate the rooms and common areas.

Another living history lesson right in the Stockyards is Miss Molly's Hotel. The historic bed and breakfast, which went from boarding house to bordello to hotel, is also decorated with antiques and memorabilia from the turn of the century. Each room has a different theme from the elegant Miss Josie (the madam) and proper Miss Amelia (a later proprietress) to the Gunslinger and the Oilman, each room is a delightful reminder of the spirit of the Old West.

Comfort Inn Fort Worth North is on the North Freeway close to the Stockyards and Alliance Airport; great dining is nearby at Joe T. Garcia's, Cattlemen's Steakhouse, and Don Pablo's. La Quinta Inn & Suites also offers basic but comfortable lodging close to the Stockyards, as do Holiday Inn North and Hampton Inn—Meacham.

For a totally different experience, stay at Bed and Breakfast at the Ranch. Sprawling on 20 acres north of the Stockyards off Highway 287, the onetime ranch headquarters includes four rooms, each with private bath. Décor here is distinctly Western, with lots of denim, landscape murals, cowhide rugs, and exposed wood. The smokehouse cottage features a hot tub and screened in porch; breakfasts are hearty enough to sustain a working cowboy, cowgirl, or serious sightseer.

Northeast/Fossil Creek

Candlewood Suites Hotel in northeast Fort Worth caters to business travelers with two phone lines in comfortable work areas, generously appointed kitchenettes, and weekly housekeeping unless otherwise requested.

You'll find nicely appointed, reasonably priced accommodations at Homewood Suites Fort Worth. Generous bedrooms are complemented by separate living rooms and roomy combination dining room/workspaces. Fully equipped kitchens mean you don't have to go back out to eat if you're tired after a long day of work or play.

Courtyard by Marriott—Fossil Creek is a typical Courtyard, small and comfortable with 148 rooms on three floors, a great breakfast buffet onsite, and a cocktail lounge. Other Courtyards are on Main Street and Riverfront Drive in Fort Worth, and in Arlington and Bedford. Not to be outdone, Holiday Inn Fort Worth North Hotel and Conference Center and Residence Inn Fossil Creek offer the large and the small, the hotel and the suite environments for business travelers or vacationers. There is also the La Quinta Inn Northeast for moderate prices and family-friendliness.

North Richland Hills

This area has a Best Western, Homestead Village, La Quinta, and Lexington Inn.

West/South

Hampton Inn in peaceful west Fort Worth is convenient to the Stockyards, Sundance Square, and many mid-range shops and restaurants. Generous bathrooms have large vanities and marble showers, and there is plenty of workspace for the business traveler.

The completely refurbished Holiday Inn and Conference Center Fort Worth South is strategically located at the intersection of IH 20 and IH 35-W. It offers attractive surroundings along with amenities designed to make your business trip more pleasant. Other Holiday Inns are located on Beach Street and Meacham Boulevard in Fort Worth and on Randol Mill Road in Arlington.

Residence Inn by Marriott Fort Worth South affords luxury accommodations at midrange prices. The two-room suites have large windows for plenty of light; complete kitchens with everything but food; and comfortable work areas. There is another Residence Inn on Seashell Drive in the Fossil Creek area; both offer free breakfast.
