A meeting point for actors and audiences from the Mousonturm, a soap factory turned theatre, the interior is bright and pleasantly modern, but things can get very busy during the interval. Customers can choose from a selection of different coffees, cocktails, beer, wine and soft drinks. The Indian chef adds an Asian touch to the fresh and delicate cuisine. When the weather is good, guests can take their drinks out onto to the terrace. Sunday brunch is particularly popular: try the sumptuous buffet once, and you'll soon be back for more! Cultural centre |
Waldschmidtstraße 4 Frankfurt, HES 60316 Germany +49 69 4058 9520 http://www.mousonturm.de |
This tall brick tower was once a part of a large factory which produced Mouson soap. In 1988, the buildings were transformed into a cultural center consisting of a main stage and auditorium, as well as two smaller stages and a rehearsal room for musicians. There are also four art studios, a fully equipped sound studio, a theater workshop and a restaurant. The program is equally varied, featuring national and international dance acts, cabarets, theater ensembles and musicians. One of the few successful examples of transforming an industrial plant into an entertainment complex, this place is definitely worth a visit. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Modern-day classics |

Opened in 1963 and with a capacity of 700, the Schauspielhaus has, unfortunately, lost some of its initial glamour (when it became the first West German theatre to feature plays by Bertolt Brecht). While its productions of modern-day classics by the likes of Thomas Bernhard, Hans Schwab and Karl Kraus are still decent, it is now better known for its political intrigues than its intriguing productions. Artistic and culinary finesse combine to make the Tigerpalast one of the best addresses in town. Martin Göschel and his team toil away in the kitchen of the dome-roofed restaurant, while visitors admire the fine contemporary art on the first floor. Dishes such as Glazed Fillet of Turbot on Potato and Truffle Mousse recently earned the restaurant a highly-prized Michelin star and 17 Gault Millau points. Johnny Klinke, former student protestor and owner of the restaurant, has come to understand that the best revolutions are culinary rather than political. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Be it a foreign classic or a local favorite, all plays here are performed in the local dialect. The Volkstheater was founded by the well-known Frankfurt actress, Liesel Christ, more than a quarter of a century ago. All shows are performed completely in dialect, which is not only used for Goethe's Faust, but also for works by Shakespeare or contemporary pieces by Berthold Brecht. The theater group has been so successful that they appear in guest productions throughout the region. The open-air performances in the summer are especially popular. Review © 2007, Wcities |
