Dried and candied fruits and rarities from all over the world. |
Via Sottoripa, 105r Genoa 16123 Italy +39 10 247 6905 |
This shop is far from just a fruit shop. Fruit is just the start. It holds a whole series of delicious products like candied fruits, dried fruits and sweets. There are specialties which have been imported from distant countries like dates (for which there is a good range of qualities and some rare types for the connoisseurs among us). The shop undergoes a barrage around Christmas time and is used throughout the year. Review © 2007, Wcities |

History and local traditions bookshop |
Via Cairoli, 2 Genoa 16100 Italy +39 10 248 1718 |
This old-style bookshop has understood that its survival depended on specialization. It has therefore concentrated on books on history, traditions, cuisine, guide-books, collections of essays and books regarding the city itself. Its site on the Via Balbi is a stone's throw from the faculties for humanities, law and political science and contains a very well-stocked section on economics and law. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Homeland of cheese foccacia |
Via Marinai d'Italia Genoa, Genoa 16100 Italy +39 18 572 0658 |
Recco is the birthplace of cheese focaccia. There is no one in Genova who hasn't been there. It is one of the city's secrets which spread like wildfire. It's a hut on the seafront which is like all the other huts except for the fact it makes wonderful focaccia bread. It's open until late and the focaccia is cheap and delicious. It makes a perfect start to an evening on the Riviera. A place for everyone. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Art and history books in Via Garibaldi |
Vico dietro il Coro della Maddalena, 40 R Genoa 16123 Italy |
This bookshop is on the Via Garibaldi, the street which also contains the city hall and all of the oldest buildings of the city. For years, it has specialised in art and history books. It's easy to lose track of time as you browse through books in this spacious and well-lit shop. It has recently opened a section which is entirely dedicated to antique collector's books, where they also value and purchase books. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Small, but growing |
Genoa, Genoa Italy |
The first effort to build this began in 1907. The first section was opened in 1990 and there are now three stations and ten more planned. In the wait for the network to be completed, it is possible to enjoy a view from the elevated Brin station, designed by the Genoan architect Renzo Piano, who has built great works all over the world, including America and Japan. Patisserie on Via Garibaldi |
Via Portello, 2r Genoa 16124 Italy +39 10 277 0002 |
This super patisserie has a beautiful period setting. It is at the ground floor corner of one of the sixteenth century buildings on Via Garibaldi. They sell bombonieres, pastries and cakes, all of which continue the Renaissance beauty of the surroundings. There are always all sorts of sweets and patisseries available. It's a good idea to order cakes. We recommend the flaky pastry jam tart with pastry cream and fruit. It seems like it has jumped out of a painting of Van Dyck just thanks to the way it looks. Don't even ask about the taste! Review © 2007, Wcities |
