Trendy clothes and shoes |
18-20 West Nile St Glasgow G1 2PU United Kingdom +44 0141 221 6321 http://www.aspecto.co.uk/ |
Just along from the Aspecto shoe shop at 20 Gordon Street, this place is less footwear-orientated and more clothing obsessed. The labels here are slightly different too, a bit more urban streetwear than urban casual. The young men who choose to shop here tend to be genuinely interested in clothes and are often attracted by the sound of names like Duffer of St George, Timberland, Camper, Paul Smith and Wannabe, while they would be repelled by names like Littlewoods and Poundstretcher. There's also a limited range of shoes for women. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Comfy and cool |

This may be a very grown-up shoe store, but it also has a mischievous side. Footwear for men is tough, macho, hard-wearing and means business, but there's also a small range of more frivolous loafers for the fashion-conscious shopper. Girls' shoes can be professional and formal but their flirty, strappy little numbers with beaded, feathery details in every colour of the rainbow are far more tempting. Prices are reasonable. Three floors of trainers |
132 Argyle Street Glasgow G2 8BL United Kingdom http://www.footlocker.com/ |
A recent winner of the International Store Design Award, it's taken this company quite long enough to open a branch in Scotland's most stylish city. If you're into trainers and the sports casual look then prepare to be very over-excited by the ranges of trainers that are exclusive to this store. Sports shoes and clothing for all the family are spread over three floors and it's easy to find a helpful assistant because they're dressed like referees, very handy if a fight ensues over the last pair of pink Nikes. If you're too long in the leg or if your beer gut has recently expanded, or even if your arms are too muscular for the average high street retailer to deal with - you'll do well to pop in here. They have clothes to fit every size and shape so there's no excuse for wearing suits you can no longer get into or trousers that end at your ankles. Shoes sized 12-15 are also stocked here. Elegant shoes and clothing |
127 Buchanan Street Glasgow G1 2JA United Kingdom +44 141 248 3978 |
This large and lovely shop is fitted out like a rather grand living room, with graceful fireplaces and long swooping curtains, not to mention the sofas and coffee tables to rest your weary shopper's feet. Hobbs shoes are smart and tend towards the classic rather than the high fashion - there's plenty of suede in evidence, as well as beautiful loafer styles. Clothes, too, fit in with the elegant surroundings - long skirts, well-cut shirts and lots of luxury fabrics are the order of the day. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Footwear with a history |
122 Buchanan Street Glasgow G1 2JW United Kingdom http://www.jonesbootmaker.com/ |
This company has been producing shoes since 1875 - the styles have certainly changed since then, but they are still as competitive as ever and offer a lovely range of shoes for both men and women at very sensible prices. Pricing is about the only sensible thing in this store as style is key, so ladies should expect to see dainty Japanese-style slippers, strappy little club numbers and flatties with a sophisticated air. For guys there's a choice of sporty models, formal and sandals, just in case the weather gets better. Regular markdowns and special offers have made this shop popular in an area of town that can charge double the price for the same cutting-edge look. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Classic, well-cut clothing for all the family |
70-76 Argyle Street Glasgow G2 8AG United Kingdom +44 141 226 3311 http://www.next.co.uk/ |
This is a large and busy store that comprises clothing for all the family and a range of items to adorn your home. The latter includes an array of stylish candles and knicknacks, bed linen, covers for cushions and a range of crockery. The clothes are much the same - menswear features good-quality jumpers and sweaters in mostly neutral colors as well as a fairly wide choice of suits, shirts, ties, socks and so on. The womens wear range makes concessions to street wear, with combat style trousers, body warmers and fleeces, but the more classic and formal end of the range is well represented too and it's a great place to buy a suit. Children and babies are well catered for, with adorable and soft mini-fleeces, combats and hooded tops. Everything in this store is sensibly priced and of good quality. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Not just for work |
54-56 Buchanan Street Glasgow G1 3JE United Kingdom +44 141 248 8346 http://www.office.co.uk/ |
Funky footwear of the highest order, but not at the high prices you might expect. The first part of this store is for grown-ups of both sexes and comprises everything from dainty, beaded slip-ons and strappy, pastel clubbing shoes to clumpy loafers and platforms. When you've spotted the footwear of your dreams, relax on their multi-colored, stripy leather seats and wait for the assistant's quick return. Venture into the back section of the shop, cutely titled Offspring, and you'll enter a slightly younger market in trainers and sports shoes with all the popular brands like Merril, Converse and Acupuncture. The store sounds are popular and clubby but don't dominate, giving you the opportunity to confer with friends. This is the only branch of Office in Scotland. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Clothing for feet |
114 Argyle Street Glasgow G2 8BH United Kingdom +44 141 248 7331 http://www.schuh.co.uk/ |
Three branches of Schuh in the city centre alone stock only the trendiest and most covetable of shoes and boots to suit all occasions and budgets. Trainers by Vans, Diesel and Nike amongst others compete for the attention of discerning shoppers, while the painfully pretty and perilously high heels present a serious threat to bank balances. There are frequent sales, which always include some terrific bargains for all sizes. Review © 2007, Wcities |
