Tumbling prices |
34 Dundas Street Glasgow G1 2AQ United Kingdom +44 141 332 2099 |
A mecca for indie-kids, there is a lot more to this discount record shop than meets the eye. Inside, the displays are ever-changing, featuring the latest CDs and vinyl, with a slant to independent label releases and artists. With just as many second-hand tapes, vinyl and CDs as new releases, the shop is popular with students and anyone who doesn't want to pay inflated prices. The walls are festooned with posters for upcoming gigs and releases while fanzines from home and abroad are piled high. Review © 2007, Wcities |

They've got de funk |
639 Great Western Road Glasgow G12 8RE United Kingdom |
A shrine to all that's rare and cool in the world of vinyl, this tiny shop specialises in hip hop, soul, jazz, reggae and funk, with a bit of house and garage thrown into the mix too. If you can't find what you're looking for just ask the staff who are knowledgeable to the point of dangerous obsession and will be happy to engage in a discussion about that obscure "only one known to remain intact" 12 inch that nobody else has ever heard of. For DJ divas |
65-67 Union Street Glasgow G1 3RB United Kingdom +44 141 248 7966 |
As home to both Kosha and Kushi Records, this shop could not possibly have more street-cred than it already does. A state-of-the-art JBL sound system incorporates three private Technics listening booths and a further three normal listening posts. First choice for the local DJ community in search of new sounds and accessories, they stock the latest in deep house and techno (domestic and import) as well as classic and rare oldies, with lots more in the shape of compilations, breaks 'n' beats. Their new city centre recording studio, complete with skilled and successful engineers, is the next stop for all budding superstar DJs. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eclectic range of CDs and vinyl |
DeCourcy's Arcade, Cresswell Lane Glasgow G12 8AA United Kingdom |
There's no turning back, a free moment spent browsing here soon becomes a lifetime. They have a large and eclectic selection of new and second-hand CDs, cassettes, videos and vinyl, although some of the stock is rather strange and it's not arranged by genre. It's best to go in with a vague idea of what kind of music you want to walk away with rather than any specific album because you probably won't find it amidst the clutter. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Art supplies |
28 Stockwell Street Glasgow G1 4RT United Kingdom +44 141 553 1660 |
Just off Argyle Street, this shop has probably the best selection of specialist art and craft materials, including an especially good choice of textured papers. A wide range of brushes is downstairs, while the upper level houses supplies for every kind of craft-related hobby, be it stencilling or batik. Upstairs they also have a small open workshop, where regular craft displays are held and staff can advise and inspire. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great independent record store |
9-11 Wellington Street Glasgow G2 2BA United Kingdom +44 141 248 9440 http://freespace.virgin.net/mi... |
This is a sign you'll also see at 685 Great Western Road and 82 Oswald Street. The prices are easy on the pocket and they offer a 10 per cent student discount on all stock. Any of these stores is an indie-fan's mecca, but this is the main branch where there always seems to be a sale on and there are regular band appearances. Most genres are covered and it's also a great place to pick up tickets for upcoming gigs. If you want to offload some embarrassing purchases or hunt for bargains then head down to the second-hand specialist shop at Oswald Street. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Modern day tobacco lord |
Finlay House 10-14 West Nile Street Glasgow G1 2PP United Kingdom +44 (0)141 248 7283 www.globalwhiskyshop.com |
A great variety of tobaccos and pipes is on offer here. Glasgow's wealth was made on the back of the tobacco trade in the 17th and 18th centuries so it is only natural that its importance should continue. You can buy cigarettes, Cuban cigars, rolling papers, filters, leather tobacco cases, lighters and packaged or loose tobacco for both pipes and cigarettes. It's a nasty habit, but if you smoke this is a good place to indulge the vice. Review © 2007, Wcities |

35 Howard Street Glasgow G1 4BA United Kingdom +44 141 221 9657 http://www.rad69.com/ |
Run by the gang behind the Rub-A-Dub record label and Paisley's famous Club 69, this is one of the best shops in the city if you're into dance music. It's especially good for techno, hip hop, Chicago and Detroit style sounds. Everything you need to become a top DJ can be bought here, from decks and flight cases to a huge selection of vinyl which covers all possible dance genres and sub-genres, even the ones that don't have names yet. The only thing they can't sell you is talent. Review © 2007, Wcities |
