Comics and graphic novels
31-35 Parnie Street
Trongate
Glasgow G1 5RJ
United Kingdom
+44 141 552 6692
http://www.a1comics.com/
A vast selection of graphic novels and comics both new and back catalogue, which you may be able to avoid paying full price on, can be browsed and bought here. Their discount schemes are generous to say the least - 10 per cent off for students and the unemployed, five per cent off if you have a standing order. As well as the comics themselves, there's lots of tie-in merchandise from cult television programmes, movies and computer games but the shop is fairly big so doesn't seem cluttered.

Colour me veggie
56-58 Wilson Street
Glasgow G1 1HD
United Kingdom
+44 141 552 5282
This mega-trendy salon is well aware of the competition in town, so have set themselves apart from the pack with a range of out of salon work. Styling for magazine fashion shoots and for television programmes is commonplace and they offer the same model treatment to all their customers. Shows are a regular occurrence and you'll find evidence of this all over the salon. Consultations are free and colouring is priced on a scale of minimum, medium and maximum, according to hair length. You can even try paint-on vegetable tinting for a change of colour without commitment.

Barras

Scotland's largest indoor market
6-Apr Stevenson Street
Glasgow G40 2ST
United Kingdom
+44 141 552 4601
http://www.glasgow-barrowland....
Scotland's largest indoor market is formally called the Barrowland and is made up of nine distinct markets. You can find almost anything here "from an anchor to a needle." It's often raided by the police because some of the stalls sell goods of slightly dubious origin, i.e. they "fell off the back of a lorry". Still, a trip to the Barras is a fun day out, as you can browse for hours through seemingly endless stalls and might even find something you want to buy. On the last Saturday of every month, there's a special Farmers Market where you can find organic meat, fruit, vegetables, bread, cheeses, free range eggs and countless other things. Be warned, however: traders usually sell out around midday so make sure you're early. If you get hungry, there are a few cafes nearby. The more advenurous will appreciate a hot dog or mussels from one of the vans. Admission: free.

Anyone who's ever wanted to run away and join the circus will love this colorful shop. The best toys are the old-fashioned ones that don't break when accidentally stood upon, and that's exactly what you'll find here. They stock chunky toy boats, juggling equipment, kites, face paints, rocking horses, parachutes, earth balls, puppets, Russian matrioshka dolls, clockwork toys, stocking fillers and much, much more. The owners also organize circus skills workshops and hire out clowns for special occasions.

Celtic Shop

Get your Hoops gear here
21 High Street
Glasgow G1 1LX
United Kingdom
+44 141 552 7630
This is the relatively central alternative for Celtic FC fans to buy all the Hoops gear they can carry when they can't be bothered going to Parkhead. Queues form outside this particular shop when a new strip is in the air, with everybody gasping to get their mitts on the new colours first. In addition, there are plenty of souvenirs to bankrupt you and the prices are comparable to any other Premier League team. Since it's an official shop, customers can rest easy in the knowledge that they aren't shelling out for shoddy, counterfeit goods.

They are definitely style leaders and this is a popular shop amongst Glasgow's fashion-conscious youth who want to stand out from the crowd on a night out and love the label but not the usual Armani prices. They stock beautiful clothes for men and women here as well as items for boys aged up to 14.

Not content with being a first class salon, this small, colourful cutting-edge hairdresser's is also an art gallery. So choose your hair treatment, sit back and enjoy the view. All of the pictures are for sale so it may end up being a rather expensive haircut but who knows, perhaps it will be an investment for the future.

Go in wearing ordinary boring everyday clothes, and come out dressed ready for adventure in a khaki flared safari suit. Of all the vintage outlets in the city, this is the most eclectic and exciting. Sadly, the fantastic display of 70's Y-fronts is not for sale, but the most intense craving for luridly patterned polyester can be satisfied easily here, as well as less garish clothing needs.
