Dining area with mixed menu downstairs, bar upstairs |
Kungsportsavenyn 29 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 20 6087 |
Babar has a pleasant dining area with large windows overlooking Avenyn. The menu is mixed, with selections of vegetarian dishes, seafood and roasts. Both traditional dishes and modern ones are on offer. The dining room has a very different ambience from the bar; it has a sense of intimacy and cosiness. Upstairs, the bar sports a games area and large windows, also overlooking Avenyn. These make the bar seem larger than it actually is. Every day the bar offers a two—for—one deal on most drinks until 10pm, and on Sundays the offer is valid all night. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Centrally located nightclub with its own profile |
Kristinelundsgatan 3 Berber Bar Gothenburg 41137 Sweden +46 31 16 3725 |
Why not try something a bit different on the nightclub scene? Bwana Club is centrally located on a street parallel to Vasagatan, behind the Röhsska Museum. They close quite early, at 1am, so it is a good place to start your night before continuing on to one of the clubs that close at 5am. Musically they offer quite a peculiar mix of styles, such as rai, Latin, ragga and bhangwa, with different DJs in charge of the selections. For more information check the Friday newspaper supplement. Entry is to the above 22 year only. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Dojan occupies an important spot in the Gothenburg nightlife. A restaurant by day, it undergoes a complete transformation by night. Stop by for an evening full of delicious food, yummy drinks and great music. The place is most packed on weekends - that's when the live bands keep it alive and rocking. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This old flagship (the house was built in 1918) always seems to make a comeback on the nightclub and restaurant scene, in one way or the other. Theme restaurant with stand-up comedy |
Vasagatan 43 Box 5218 Gothenburg 40224 Sweden +46 31 81 2812 http://www.harrys.se/ |
There is a Harrys in seventeen different towns in Sweden. It is an established brand, and quite a successful one at that. There is not much to say about the food—it is of good quality but not special in any way. The pub offers a nice environment to eat in, but perhaps unsuitable for a romantic dinner. There are regular stand-up comedy evenings at Harrys in Gothenburg: more than one comedian has embarrassed him- or herself here. Happy Harry takes place every weekday between 4p and 7p, Saturdays between 1p and 7p, at which times you can find good offers on both food and drinks. The nearest tram stop is Valand, for tramlines 3, 4, 5, 6, 8. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Unbeatable view of the river |
Stigbergsliden 7 Gothenburg 41463 Sweden +46 31 24 8205 http://www.henriksberg.com |
Henriksberg is a very popular venue for arranging parties, as the amazing views from the roof terrace cannot be beaten by anything else in Gothenburg. The menu offers a lot of seafood. The restaurant is only open at night in the summer; in the winter only lunch is available. But the bar is open year-round. Certain nights are club nights; the DJs play anything from the latest techno to salsa, depending on what night it is. The nearest tram stop is Stigbergstorget, for lines 3, 4 and 9. Nightclub with live music in Vasastaden |
Erik Dahlbergsgatan 3 Gothenburg 411 26 Sweden |
Jazzhuset is situated in Vasastaden; Erik Dahlbergsgatan is at the lower end of Vasagatan, which starts at Avenyn and continues down towards Handelshögskolan. Jazzhuset offers live music almost every day of the week. Thursdays host Club Gump with a more youthful pop/rock clientele, but otherwise they cater to a more mature audience. On Fridays and Saturdays they attract the 40+ crowd with various genres (jazz, blues, rhythm & blues, rock), and also a nightclub with DJs before and after the live performances. Jazzhuset admits around 300 people. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Local celebrity DJs |
Viktoriagatan 1 Gothenburg 411 25 Sweden |
Patrons wear black and have long, loud discussions. Tuesdays are reggae nights, on Wednesdays, local celebrities act as DJs. On weekends it tends to get loud here but the atmosphere is merry, not aggressive. The restaurant is the savior of many a poor student as it is possible to order large entrées at reasonable prices. The bouncers are some of the nicest in the city. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Party at crowded soul club |
Kungsportsavenyn 9 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 701 8090 |
Newly renovated, Nivå has a modern, fresh look. It gets loud and crowded on weekends, though the music is low until 11p. On Wednesday nights popular club Soul Train takes over, with DJs in costume. The kitchen offers ordinary Swedish dishes and pasta. Most come here for drinks and happy hour takes place on weekdays between 4p and 7p when beer costs real cheap and free snacks abound. Central nightclub and restaurant in Brunnsparken |
Södra hamngatan 2 Brunnsparken Gothenburg 404 30 Sweden +46 31 807 550 |
In the middle of Brunnsparken you will find Palace, a large, white and quite palatial building. It was built in 1751 and used to be the home of Pontus and Mathilda Fürstenberg, well known patrons of the arts who founded Valand's School of the Arts. In 1993, Palace was restored back to 1880s style. There are three floors. The ground floor houses the restaurant and nightclub as well as a casino. The first floor houses conference rooms and a restaurant, and the second floor has a banqueting room. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Billiards, Internet café, restaurant and nightclub |
Ekelundsgatan 9-11 Gothenburg 41118 Sweden +46 31 13 8482 http://www.palatset.com |
This is an entertainment centre with a lot to choose from, including an internet café, billiards, darts, a restaurant, bar and a nightclub. The menu is simple, featuring lots of meat, in the form of a hamburger platter, chicken grilled on a spit and more. For those organising a corporate party, there are two buffets that can be served; one is Tex-Mex, the other American. On the nightclub scene, Palatset has become a place to reckon with. Two major clubs have moved to the restaurant and organise 80s parties and other happenings here. The nearest tram stop is Grönsakstorget, where lines 1, 2, 4, 7, and 9 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Clubbing à la 1980s |
Kungsgatan 19 Gothenburg 411 19 Sweden http://www.kompaniet.nu |
Do you miss the golden years in the early 1980s, when synthesizer pop was at its peak? Once a month, on a Friday, you can crack out the hair spray and 80s clothes when Club Plasticity rules at Kompaniet. There is also synthesizer pop and other 80s music every Wednesday after Retrobar at Kompaniet. The club admits 400 guests at a time. The minimum age for admission is 18, and entry costs SEK20-80. Restaurant and bar in Saluhallen |
Saluhallen 24 Gothenburg 41117 Sweden +46 31 711 5566 |
Till Salu, which means "For Sale", buys a lot of its raw materials in Saluhallen, the covered market right next door to this restaurant. This is evident on the menu. It includes a variety of meat dishes, grilled on lava stones; you decide which vegetables and what kind of potato you want to go with the meat. Brunch is served on weekends and includes everything from the more traditional bacon and eggs to chicken salad and heavy desserts. The weekends see a DJ behind the bar, playing hits from the 1980s and early 90s. Review © 2007, Wcities |

First-class restaurant, nightclub and concert venue |
Nya Allén Gothenburg 411 38 Sweden +46 31 10 2080 http://www.tradgarn.se/ |
Trädgår'n (The Garden) is called Brädgår'n (The Lumber Yard) by those in Gothenburg who don't like the look of the place. And the large building does bear a strong resemblance to a pile of planks, but it is a very popular part of Gothenburg's nightlife. It is also one of the few nightclubs in town that stay open till 5a on Friday and Saturday nights. It is partly owned by the brothers Jonas and Anders Dahlbom, chefs well known both in Sweden and internationally. Therefore, the food is top-notch. The business lunch on weekdays is greatly appreciated by those working in the centre of town, as is having a bite before a concert. The nightclub and concert area easily fits 1300 people; the enormous room has a laser light system that people travel from far and wide to experience. The nightclub is open till 3a, but the restaurant closes earlier. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nightclub Valand is open Thursday to Saturday, and admits approximately 600 people. Valand is divided into a restaurant area and a nightclub area, with four bars, one rock bar and two dance floors where different DJs play a variety of music. Southeast Asian restaurant with popular bar and nightclub |
Viktoriagatan 3 Gothenburg 411 24 Sweden +46 31 13 2000 |
Definitely the place for a party, but at the same time this place is cozy for diner too. The food is Southeast Asian, with a focus on Thai cuisine. The reason most people come here, however, is for the bar and nightclub. Venue strives for a cool nightclub feeling with two bars, a dance floor and a DJ. Friday is gay night, with the compulsory drag queens and cocktail specials. The guests take advantage of the dance floor every night—a few might find it too cramped. And the long queue outside bears witness to Venue's popularity. Review © 2007, Wcities |
