Inexpensive restaurant with plenty of gambling |
Nils Ericssonsgatan 23 Gothenburg 41103 Sweden +46 31 15 1045 |
The Bookmaker bets its money on food, televised football and gambling, not necessarily in that order. The food is inexpensive, and the restaurant offers lunch on weekdays and a slightly larger selection in the evenings and on weekends. Fish and chips, burgers and other dishes are staple fare here. There are several different casinos and other games—blackjack, roulette and so on. There are also a few different food and drink offers on the Saturdays on which football games are televised. The nearest tram stop is Centralstationen, where trams 1, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Theme restaurant with stand-up comedy |
Vasagatan 43 Box 5218 Gothenburg 40224 Sweden +46 31 81 2812 http://www.harrys.se/ |
There is a Harrys in seventeen different towns in Sweden. It is an established brand, and quite a successful one at that. There is not much to say about the food—it is of good quality but not special in any way. The pub offers a nice environment to eat in, but perhaps unsuitable for a romantic dinner. There are regular stand-up comedy evenings at Harrys in Gothenburg: more than one comedian has embarrassed him- or herself here. Happy Harry takes place every weekday between 4p and 7p, Saturdays between 1p and 7p, at which times you can find good offers on both food and drinks. The nearest tram stop is Valand, for tramlines 3, 4, 5, 6, 8. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Modern Italian-American restaurant and bar |
Kungsportsavenyn 12 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 10 5826 http://www.joefarelli.com |
This is a well designed, modern American restaurant right in the middle of the sunny side of the Avenue. Joe Farellis is one of the more popular restaurants in this area. The menu consists of the usual American dishes, such as burgers, pizza and fajitas. Curious diners can watch the chefs at work — the kitchen and dining area are only separated by a waist-high wall. The bar tends to fill up quickly, too. Many people drop in just for a drink and to enjoy the atmosphere. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Party at crowded soul club |
Kungsportsavenyn 9 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 701 8090 |
Newly renovated, Nivå has a modern, fresh look. It gets loud and crowded on weekends, though the music is low until 11p. On Wednesday nights popular club Soul Train takes over, with DJs in costume. The kitchen offers ordinary Swedish dishes and pasta. Most come here for drinks and happy hour takes place on weekdays between 4p and 7p when beer costs real cheap and free snacks abound. Sports bar with 30 monitors |
Östra Hamngatan 37 Gothenburg 411 10 Sweden +46 31 711 5519 http://www.olearys.se |
An American sports bar with 30 TVs and three giant screens, O'Learys attracts the true sports fans, offering also a typical American menu. The chain has branches in many Swedish towns but the one in Gothenburg was the first. The two-storey restaurant has several bars and even though the main attractions here are beer and sports, it is possible to have a really good meal. The large selection goes from Chicken Thai to chicken wings, covering everything in between. The décor is typical, with plenty of pictures, sports paraphernalia and red-and-white chequered tablecloths. The personnel is service-minded the American way, dropping by every few minutes to check that everything is satisfactory. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Very musical Wild West |
Tredje Långgatan 16 Gothenburg 413 03 Sweden +46 31 42 6080 http://www.oakleys.nu |
Oakley's Country club is a show restaurant where anything can happen. Suddenly the waiters and waitresses begin to sing and dance for the guests. And what better fits this American phenomenon than food from the different corners of the USA? But it covers more than just spare ribs and T-bone steaks. Ostrich burgers "Roadrunner style" one of the many interesting dishes on the menu. And should the guests be overwhelmed by the different choices, there are three set three-course menus. The décor is old-world American, and the performers wear clothes to match. The nearest Review © 2007, Wcities |

Pub with varied menu |
Plantagegatan 1 Gothenburg 41305 Sweden +46 31 42 6092 |
Old Beefeater Inn is kept in a British style and offers many dishes (some of which are actually American). The little pub close to Järntorget is better known as a pub than as a restaurant. There are plenty of different beers, but the main area of interest and knowledge is in fact whiskey, preferably of the Scotch malt variety. There is an à la carte menu, and one with Beefeater specials, which include fish and chips, burgers and sandwiches. Unlike many other bars, Beefeater also has a list of bar snacks, with such things as fries with dips and sausage platters. The nearest tram stop is Järntorget, where lines 1, 3, 4 and 9 stop. Billiards, Internet café, restaurant and nightclub |
Ekelundsgatan 9-11 Gothenburg 41118 Sweden +46 31 13 8482 http://www.palatset.com |
This is an entertainment centre with a lot to choose from, including an internet café, billiards, darts, a restaurant, bar and a nightclub. The menu is simple, featuring lots of meat, in the form of a hamburger platter, chicken grilled on a spit and more. For those organising a corporate party, there are two buffets that can be served; one is Tex-Mex, the other American. On the nightclub scene, Palatset has become a place to reckon with. Two major clubs have moved to the restaurant and organise 80s parties and other happenings here. The nearest tram stop is Grönsakstorget, where lines 1, 2, 4, 7, and 9 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Deluxe pizzas served in an American setting |
Kungsportsavenyn 2 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 711 1693 http://home.swipnet.se/peppesp... |
Placed right on Avenyn, Peppe's is one of those typical tourist traps but, unlike many others, well worth a visit. Deluxe pizzas covered with many different ingredients and blessed with strange names such as Miss Piggy or Moby Dick are on offer. If you want to, you can combine your own favourite toppings. As long as you eat with your hands, you'll make the waiters happy — this is, however, not a requirement. The lunches are a lot cheaper than the dinners. The atmosphere is very much that of an American sports bar, but instead of baseball stars there are marine keepsakes and toys decorating the walls. Review © 2007, Wcities |

American-style sports bar |
Järntorget 4 Gothenburg 413 04 Sweden +46 31 60 7260 |
Stars 'n' Bars is situated near Järntorget. Most people come to the restaurant to watch sports, or perhaps to enjoy the games corner. But a business lunch is served every weekday, and the menu on the whole is very American. Burgers, poppers, buffalo wings and tacos are some of the dishes on offer. In the evenings, there is a DJ on the second floor, and occasionally a band will play live music for the dinner guests. This American restaurant is owned by a man named English — who is from Ireland.
