Mixed Indonesian and Chinese cuisine |
Vasaplatsen 1 Gothenburg 411 26 Sweden +46 31 711 3833 http://home.swipnet.se/restaur... |
Bali looks like a typical Chinese restaurant, but is one up on the others: it also offers Indonesian food. Both large and small groups are easily seated in the restaurant's different rooms, and the menu has a wide range of dishes. Besides the (for Sweden) usual "three small dishes" there are many other Chinese and Indonesian meals to choose from. The terrace is popular in the summer as many students enjoy eating lunch here. Also, the beer is cheaper here than at many of the other places around Vasaplatsen. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Mongolian restaurant with large buffet |
Skeppsbroplatsen 1 Gothenburg 411 18 Sweden +46 31 13 6962 |
This place has daily buffets, and offers both business lunches and dinners. Besides the Mongolian dishes, Chinese is also available. There are ten kinds of vegetables, six kinds of meat dishes, four different sauces, and egg noodles and rice to choose from. You decide which meat, vegetables and sauce you want and give the food to the chef, who cooks it while you wait. The restaurant is large, seating up to 350 people. Bamboo is not really near any tram stops; the closest is Domkyrkan, but it does not take very long to walk from there. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Little Tokyo in little Linnéstan |
Linnégatan 53 Gothenburg 41308 Sweden +46 31 12 2820 |
Lilla Tokyo (Little Tokyo) is definitely little; a small sushi restaurant that also offers regular Japanese food, cappuccino, espresso and pieces of Valhrona chocolate. Choose between the chef's sushi platters or compose your own. The other savoury dishes come for very low prices and are served together with rice and salad. Every weekday between 11a and 3p you can choose between one regular dish and one sushi platter for lunch. This daily special includes soup, a beverage and coffee or tea. The nearest tram stop is Linnéplatsen, for lines 1 and 2, but it is not a long walk from Järntorget, where lines 1, 3, 4 and 9 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Popular lunch restaurant with live music |
Värmlandsgatan 18 Gothenburg 41328 Sweden +46 31 12 5549 |
Louice has live music every Friday and Saturday. Apart from the live music, the lunches are the big draw. This place is usually full at lunchtime, mostly because the eatery offers speedy service and three different specials to choose from. The menu is international, with everything from wok to pasta dishes. Of course, there is also plenty of traditional Swedish cooking. The nearest tram stop is Järntorget. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Indian food in a typical setting |
Första Långgatan 8 Gothenburg 41303 Sweden +46 31 14 1180 |
Indian food, cooked by an Indian chef. A large variety of chicken, lamb, seafood and vegetarian dishes are available. There is also a set menu for large parties, which consists of a number of different dishes. The prices are very reasonable. At lunchtime, there are always two daily special,s which differ every day. There are also three set lunches available. There is always a vegetarian alternative. The décor is typically Indian, with the exception perhaps of the jars of chilli paste on the shelves above the tables. These sport such exciting names such as Hot Hot Hot and pictures of red devils. Whether their purpose is to excite interest or scare dinner guests is as yet unknown. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Japanese food in Japanese setting |
Vasagatan 43B Gothenburg 411 37 Sweden |
Japanese food should be enjoyed by the eyes as well as the stomach. That is what guests are told when they come to Mikado. There are several set menus to choose from, a special sushi platter and an à la carte menu. There are many variations. And apart from Japanese food, there is also Japanese beer and saké. The restaurant is right in the centre of town, just off Avenyn. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Southeast Asian with noodles and rice |
Första Långgatan 24-26 Gothenburg 413 28 Sweden +46 31 24 6020 |
Mr Rice serves Southeast Asian food all mixed together—Malaysian, Indonesian and Vietnamese. At lunchtime, the guests choose whether they want rice or noodles—or both —with their special. The same thing goes for the evening menu, but then there are more dishes to choose from. Mr Rice is not very far from Järntorget, and it is as a lunch restaurant that it is most popular. But the evening menu is interesting and offers a variety of dishes hard to find at a regular Chinese or Indonesian restaurant. The décor is odd, but interesting. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Party at crowded soul club |
Kungsportsavenyn 9 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 701 8090 |
Newly renovated, Nivå has a modern, fresh look. It gets loud and crowded on weekends, though the music is low until 11p. On Wednesday nights popular club Soul Train takes over, with DJs in costume. The kitchen offers ordinary Swedish dishes and pasta. Most come here for drinks and happy hour takes place on weekdays between 4p and 7p when beer costs real cheap and free snacks abound. Eastern Asian kitchen with Thai touches |
Viktoriagatan 2B Gothenburg 411 25 Sweden +46 31 13 8800 |
Noon is located in Vasastan, an area in Gothenburg famous for its Southeast Asian restaurants. Noon is among the best of these. The menu consists mainly of Thai food. There are a variety of dishes to choose from, but the portions are not that generous. The décor is minimalist, as it is at most modern restaurants. The outside terrace is very popular during the summer, as it is situated on the sunny side of the street. The bar is also quite popular, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, when they have a DJ. The nearest tram stop is Vasa/Viktoriagatan, trams 2 and 3 stop here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sushi chain with limited but nice menu |
Drottninggatan 61 Gothenburg 411 07 Sweden +46 31 711 5960 |
The Sushi & Soda chain has four branches in Gothenburg. The idea here is to be able to deliver set sushi dishes quickly to hungry customers. Mostly it is used for take-away, but a few seats are available. The restaurant itself is pleasant and clean, designed in a Japanese style with light décor. Sushi & Soda also sports a display case with the fresh ingredients, as do all the other sushi restaurants in Gothenburg. There are three menus to choose from, the smallest being called San, the medium one Samurai and the largest one (15 pieces of sushi), Sumo. The three other Sushi & Sodas in Gothenburg share this one's menus and opening hours. Their addresses are Kristinelundsgatan 3, Drottninggatan 61 and Linnégatan 53. The nearest tram stop to this branch is Brunnsparken (all tram lines). Review © 2007, Wcities |
