Exclusive gourmet restaurant |
Götaplatsen Gothenburg 412 56 Sweden +46 31 81 2580 http://www.fondrestaurang.com/ |
Owned by one of Sweden's most famous younger generation chefs, Stefan Karlsson, Fond sports several other award-winning chefs, among them Chef of the Year. The food is expensive, suitable for businessmen with expenses accounts. But Fond is a definite must for someone with a lot of money to spend and an interest in gourmet cooking. The dining hall is modern with a typical Scandinavian design, the eating area is non-smoking and the guests command a majestic view of Gothenburg's pride, the Avenue. If you are dying for a smoke, you may sit at the bar, where cigars are also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Modern Italian-American restaurant and bar |
Kungsportsavenyn 12 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 10 5826 http://www.joefarelli.com |
This is a well designed, modern American restaurant right in the middle of the sunny side of the Avenue. Joe Farellis is one of the more popular restaurants in this area. The menu consists of the usual American dishes, such as burgers, pizza and fajitas. Curious diners can watch the chefs at work — the kitchen and dining area are only separated by a waist-high wall. The bar tends to fill up quickly, too. Many people drop in just for a drink and to enjoy the atmosphere. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Established Gothenburg restaurant |
Vasagatan 58 Gothenburg 41137 Sweden +46 31 13 7988 |
Kometen has lived past its heyday. But its central location between the Avenue and Heden still makes it easy for people to find the restaurant. There are many different starters and several fish and meat dishes to choose from. And even if most of the à la carte dishes are available in children's portions, there is a children's menu. All kids are offered ice cream after their meal. The nearest tram stop is Valand, where trams 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Romantic basement restaurant |
Östra Larmgatan 20 Gothenburg 41107 Sweden +46 31 711 8540 |
Källarkrogen (Basement Restaurant) is in the middle of town and has been a restaurant for forty years. But the food-related activities have taken place in the building since the eighteenth century, when a butcher had his shop here. Typical for Gothenburg's restaurants is plenty of fish and seafood; this is true for Källarkrogen as well. Most of the starters are marine in nature, but there are plenty of meat dishes among the main courses. The restaurant is also open for lunch. It is very cosy, with low brick vaults and lots of candles. Definitely romantic. The nearest tram stop is Kungsportsplatsen, where lines 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Chinese restaurant with excellent reputation |
Storgatan 11 Gothenburg 411 24 Sweden +46 31 711 0239 |
Situated in Vasastan, along with quite a few other East Asian restaurants, this place is easy to miss for those new to town, but definitely one of Gothenburg's more popular Chinese restaurants. It is also a favourite among the critics. As is usual in Sweden, there is a special lunch menu with a few less expensive dishes. There is a rumour that those who know the owners well are served house specialties, dishes not on the menu. But for the uninitiated, there are still plenty of regular Chinese dishes to choose from. Exclusive restaurant and antique shop |
Tredje Långgatan 13 Gothenburg 413 03 Sweden +46 31 24 2003 |
Exclusive restaurant in Linnéstan where the guests get to take the table home with them—if they pay for it. The restaurant is famous among the people of Gothenburg and it has figured in several books and been seen in a couple of movies as well. Right next door is the antique shop, which collaborates with the restaurant. It is possible to buy the furniture you are using. The food is expensive and top-notch, and the guests always come first. For example, they are allowed to keep their own private wines in the cellar, which anyway already contains several hundred bottles for diners to choose from. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Exclusive and expensive modern restaurant |
Södra vägen 32 Gothenburg 41254 Sweden +46 31 16 1183 |
Linnéa is on Södra Vägen, not far from Götaplatsen, and is one of Gothenburg's finest restaurants. The dining area is divided into several different rooms and decorated in a modern yet simple style. There are several different menus to choose from, apart from the regular dishes. Set three-course meals in different price classes, are available, as well as special menus composed by the chefs using the ingredients of the day. The business dinner menu includes a starter, a main course, coffee and truffle. The daily lunch is expensive and exclusive but always includes the choice of a low calorie dish. The wine list is never-ending with a wide assortment at varying prices. The nearest tram stop is Berzeliigatan, where lines 4 and 5 stop. It is not a long walk from Avenyn and Valand, where many more trams stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Modern restaurant with set menu prices |
Magasinsgatan 8 Gothenburg 411 18 Sweden +46 31 13 3000 |
Choose from seafood and pasta starters, two course and three course menus here. Go for starters, such as chicken liver parfait or risotto with parmesan, portabello and truffle salami, and proceed to main courses made with an immense amount of ingredients, and a variety of tasty desserts. The restaurant is quite small, with a square bar in the middle of the room and a loft filled with large cushions above the cloakroom. During summer the courtyard seating area opens, and then there is a bar outside as well. The closest tram stop is Grönsakstorget. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Party at crowded soul club |
Kungsportsavenyn 9 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 701 8090 |
Newly renovated, Nivå has a modern, fresh look. It gets loud and crowded on weekends, though the music is low until 11p. On Wednesday nights popular club Soul Train takes over, with DJs in costume. The kitchen offers ordinary Swedish dishes and pasta. Most come here for drinks and happy hour takes place on weekdays between 4p and 7p when beer costs real cheap and free snacks abound. Fine neighbourhood restaurant |
Lorensbergsgatan 8 Gothenburg 41136 Sweden +46 31 20 8690 |
The three men who run Popcorn met at the catering college in Grythyttan, and decided to start a restaurant together. The aim —to create a menu based on the French cuisine but inspired by Swedish traditions and international adventurousness. Find out whether they have succeeded in this endeavour. Order the set five-course menu or the vegetarian two-course one. Popcorn has a varied wine list, with about 100 different types of wines, 30 of them available by glass. The restaurant is cosy and warm, and the cellar is partly decorated with old farming tools. Review © 2007, Wcities |
