Pleasant place with plenty of seafood |
Linnégatan 52 Gothenburg 413 08 Sweden +46 31 12 5211 |
12-52 is situated quite far up on Linnégatan, near Linnéplatsen. The restaurant is bright and inviting and the large terrace has a nice view of the often-crowded street. There is plenty of seafood on the menu; the starters especially being made with marine ingredients. But a selection of game is also available, including deer. The cheaper bistro menu offers a large variety of dishes. Lunch is served every weekday, as is usual in Sweden. There are two dishes, one that goes by the name of Swedish Tradition and one called Nytt o Lätt (New and Light), with fewer calories. There is also always a soup of the week. The nearest tram stop is Linnéplatsen, where lines 1 and 2 stop, but the walk from Järntorget isn't exceptionally long, and more trams stop there. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Dining area with mixed menu downstairs, bar upstairs |
Kungsportsavenyn 29 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 20 6087 |
Babar has a pleasant dining area with large windows overlooking Avenyn. The menu is mixed, with selections of vegetarian dishes, seafood and roasts. Both traditional dishes and modern ones are on offer. The dining room has a very different ambience from the bar; it has a sense of intimacy and cosiness. Upstairs, the bar sports a games area and large windows, also overlooking Avenyn. These make the bar seem larger than it actually is. Every day the bar offers a two—for—one deal on most drinks until 10pm, and on Sundays the offer is valid all night. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Beautifully situated by Stora Teatern |
Kungsparken Gothenburg 41115 Sweden +46 31 701 7070 |
Figaro is in a cellar vault in Stora Teatern, one of the theatres in the centre of Gothenburg, right where Avenyn starts. The view out towards the canal and Kungsparken is magnificent, especially in the summer when the large outdoor service area is open. There is also a very popular outdoor bar at that time. The food is mixed, with an international touch. There is also a lot of barbecued and grilled food. The restaurant seats about 80 guests, many more if you count the outdoor terrace. The nearest tram stop is Kungsportsplatsen, where trams 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Exclusive gourmet restaurant |
Götaplatsen Gothenburg 412 56 Sweden +46 31 81 2580 http://www.fondrestaurang.com/ |
Owned by one of Sweden's most famous younger generation chefs, Stefan Karlsson, Fond sports several other award-winning chefs, among them Chef of the Year. The food is expensive, suitable for businessmen with expenses accounts. But Fond is a definite must for someone with a lot of money to spend and an interest in gourmet cooking. The dining hall is modern with a typical Scandinavian design, the eating area is non-smoking and the guests command a majestic view of Gothenburg's pride, the Avenue. If you are dying for a smoke, you may sit at the bar, where cigars are also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Modern Italian-American restaurant and bar |
Kungsportsavenyn 12 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 10 5826 http://www.joefarelli.com |
This is a well designed, modern American restaurant right in the middle of the sunny side of the Avenue. Joe Farellis is one of the more popular restaurants in this area. The menu consists of the usual American dishes, such as burgers, pizza and fajitas. Curious diners can watch the chefs at work — the kitchen and dining area are only separated by a waist-high wall. The bar tends to fill up quickly, too. Many people drop in just for a drink and to enjoy the atmosphere. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Seasonal restaurant overlooking the ocean |
Talattagatan 14 Gothenburg 42676 Sweden +46 31 29 1412 |
Långedrags Paviljong is both a restaurant and a café. It is located only 40 metres from the ocean and has plenty of marine tidbits on offer. The restaurant does a lot of catering, arranges weddings and conferences and can whip up a shrimp or seafood buffet for larger parties. The activities are very seasonal; the à la carte menu is only available in the summer and in the winter the restaurant shuts earlier. The café is also open all year round. The nearest tram stop is Långedrag, served by line 4. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Turn-of-the-century setting |
Linnégatan 32 Gothenburg 41304 Sweden +46 31 24 0890 |
This building is over a hundred years old and was decorated in a style typical of that period. The owners have striven to recreate this environment with hand-printed wallpaper, benches stuck to the walls, panels and mahogany furniture. The menu, however, is not outdated; in fact the restaurant strives to be innovative. It is a sister restaurant to the more exclusive 28+, but uses simpler ingredients and has lower prices. The large veranda is extremely popular in the summer. The view of Linnéstan is magnificent and the antique setting inside a perfect complement. Review © 2007, Wcities |
