Small place with a large menu |
Karl Johansgatan 58 Gothenburg 41455 Sweden +46 31 42 2530 http://www.restbryggan.com |
Bryggan is in Majorna and caters mainly to the local residents. Yet it is a cosy little place, with many different dishes to choose from. There is some vegetarian food, and even a few meat and fish dishes. Most of the menu is made up of pizzas and pasta dishes. There are also a few kebab plates, as well as salads and desserts. The restaurant is small, dominated by a large mural of the ocean. Bryggan means The Jetty. The nearest tram stop is Chapmans torg, where lines 3 and 9 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italian cafe for a sweet tooth |
Soedra Larmgatan 14 Gothenburg 41116 Sweden +46 31 774 2881 |
For Italian cookies, sweets and espresso, Da Matteo is a one-stop shop. The perfect spot for a hot break on a cold winter's day; this cosy place is found nestled in the Viktoriapassagen alley. Rozzo Espresso and Caffe del Doge are two of the most popular brands of coffee served here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional local Italian cuisine |
Kungsgatan 6B Gothenburg 411 19 Sweden +46 31 13 7372 |
In its quiet location in the centre of town; Fontana di Trevi is a romantic oasis within the hustle and bustle of city life. The menu offers a number of Italian delicacies such as prosciutto ham with melon, and tiramisù. Besides fish and meat courses there are also some pasta dishes to choose from; these are slightly cheaper. The restaurant is small and cosy, with large mirrors and Italian curiosities on the walls. The small terrace area is the most romantic part of the restaurant, definitely a good background for a proposal! The nearest tram stop is Järntorget (tram lines 1, 3, 4 and 9), but it is quite a walk from there; it is simpler to take buses 19, 64, 85, 86 or 114 to Esperantoplatsen or splash out on a taxi. Modern Italian-American restaurant and bar |
Kungsportsavenyn 12 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 10 5826 http://www.joefarelli.com |
This is a well designed, modern American restaurant right in the middle of the sunny side of the Avenue. Joe Farellis is one of the more popular restaurants in this area. The menu consists of the usual American dishes, such as burgers, pizza and fajitas. Curious diners can watch the chefs at work — the kitchen and dining area are only separated by a waist-high wall. The bar tends to fill up quickly, too. Many people drop in just for a drink and to enjoy the atmosphere. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Cosy cellar with mixed menu |
Karl Gustavsgatan 7 Gothenburg 411 25 Sweden |
Jojo Bar å Kök (Yo—yo bar and kitchen) is in Vasastan, an area well—known for its Asian restaurants. This restaurant is popular among the younger generation, partly for its modest prices but also for its happenings and its bar. Every Wednesday there's live soul music on stage, and on Tuesdays a stand—up comedian entertains the guests. Both nights have free admission. At the weekends there is often a bar DJ, and the music leans towards soul and hip—hop. And in the summer, the outdoor courtyard is often full. Many of Gothenburg's bars and restaurants offer After Work specials on Friday afternoons. At Jojo, this means cheap beer and a free Italian buffet. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italian restaurant with no smoking |
Skånegatan 33 Gothenburg 412 52 Sweden +46 31 16 6307 |
One of the few places in Gothenburg where smoking is strictly prohibited. The owner, Pietro Fioriniello, prefers the guests not to use their mobile phones either—he has had a "no ringing" sign printed at the bottom of the menu. And on the stonewalls of the restaurant, he also exhibits his paintings. The food is typically Italian, with one exception—there is not a single pizza to be had. La Cucina Italiana is situated right opposite Svenska Mässan, where many exhibitions and conferences are held, and is very popular among the Gothenburg locals. Review © 2007, Wcities |

French/Italian restaurant in Linnéstan |
Nordenskiöldsgatan 28 Gothenburg 41309 Sweden +46 31 14 4553 http://www.manfreds.o.se/ |
Manfred's is a kind of exclusive pub/restaurant that specialises in the Mediterranean cuisine, something that fits the style of the Linnéstan area perfectly. The lunch specials always consist of solid, traditional Swedish cooking, though the evening menu is more elegant. The Sunday dinners tend to be more international. The décor is unpretentious, the atmosphere pleasant and the food relatively inexpensive. A tile stove in one of the corners of the restaurant increases Manfred's coziness. The nearest tram stops are Järntorget for lines 1, 3, 4 and 9, or Linnéplatsen (line 1 and 2). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italian restaurant in Majorna |
Chapmans torg 2 Gothenburg 414 54 Sweden +46 31 42 2256 |
A small Italian restaurant primarily for those who live in the Majorna area, Marsala will also attract others. Besides the many dishes there is a large selection of Italian delicacies, from olive oil and vinegar to cookies and pasta, for sale at the restaurant. The starters are divided into Contorni (small dishes), Insalate (salads), Antipasti and Zuppe (soups). Besides fish and meat dishes, main courses also include pizza and pasta. The pizzas are cooked in a wood oven, and, as is usual in Italy (but seldom seen in Sweden), the cheese used is mozzarella. Lunch is served on weekdays, and consists of a choice of fish, meat or pasta. Salad, a beverage and coffee are included. Nearest tram stop: Chapmans torg (lines 3 and 9). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sports bar with 30 monitors |
Östra Hamngatan 37 Gothenburg 411 10 Sweden +46 31 711 5519 http://www.olearys.se |
An American sports bar with 30 TVs and three giant screens, O'Learys attracts the true sports fans, offering also a typical American menu. The chain has branches in many Swedish towns but the one in Gothenburg was the first. The two-storey restaurant has several bars and even though the main attractions here are beer and sports, it is possible to have a really good meal. The large selection goes from Chicken Thai to chicken wings, covering everything in between. The décor is typical, with plenty of pictures, sports paraphernalia and red-and-white chequered tablecloths. The personnel is service-minded the American way, dropping by every few minutes to check that everything is satisfactory. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Pasta cellar and restaurant |
Kungsportsavenyn 1 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 13 0559 |
Papa Joe's location is unbeatable - at least for tourists. The restaurant is situated right at the bottom of Avenyn, where the shopping district ends and the cultural area begins. This is the best place for a restaurant. The menu does not offer any surprises, but that doesn't mean that the food is not good. Besides the meat and fish dishes (which consist mostly of scampi), there is a pasta menu with many different dishes to choose from. There is also a vegetarian alternative, which varies from day to day. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Large restaurant with plenty to choose from |
Södra Vägen 2 Gothenburg 412 54 Sweden +46 31 16 5600 http://www.pastaplus.com/ |
Typical pasta place with red-and-white chequered tablecloths and a variety of dishes to choose from. The bar is well stocked with, apart from wine and regular alcohol, a large selection of grappas. It is large, with room for many diners, but manages in spite of this to keep the atmosphere cozy. The glassed-in terrace is open all year round, which means you can sit out and eat in the middle of winter. The kitchen stays open a little longer than at the smaller restaurants in the same area. Pasta Plus is situated in the very centre of town, just a stone's throw from Avenyn and not very far from Svenska Mässan, where many exhibitions and conferences are held. The closest tram stop is Berzeliigatan (trams 4 and 5), but the walk from Avenyn is quite short. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italian delicacies |
Vallgatan 15 Gothenburg 41116 Sweden |
Pasta e Panini is an Italian restaurant that also sells Italian delicacies. They have the usual parmesan cheese, Parma ham, olives and sun-dried tomatoes. Or why not take a sandwich or a pasta dish home, together with a genuine tiramisù? To get here, take trams 1, 2, 4, 5 or 9 to Domkyrkan. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Pizzeria with midnight menu and a bit more |
Kristinelundsgatan 13 Gothenburg 411 37 Sweden +46 31 18 4478 |
This restaurant has, as the name suggests, several prints of Picasso's artwork in the dining area. But the food itself is not very different from that of many other restaurants in Gothenburg. The menu is large and varied, most dishes are available in half-portions and apart from the regular main courses there is also a pizza and a pasta menu. Many of the dishes are available for take-away. And for anyone who like munchies late at night, there is a midnight menu, offered from 11p, with everything from olives to chili-marinated chicken and desserts. Picasso also sells cigars.
