Gourmet food away from the city noise |
Lasarettsgatan 5 Gothenburg 411 19 Sweden +46 31 711 7290 |
Not a well-known restaurant in Gothenburg, Bistro 1965 nevertheless offers fine, modern Swedish cooking in a hip yet rustic environment. The guests are seated beneath a starry ceiling of lamps, and are able to look through the window into the kitchen, or out over Kungshöjd, a central part of Gothenburg untouched by the hustle and bustle of city life. The restaurant can be hard to find. The closest tram and bus stop is Grönsakstorget, but for those not familiar with Gothenburg, a taxi or explicit directions are recommended. The dishes are well prepared and on the expensive side, but on the other hand, the restaurant has received much praise. The chefs are young and adventurous. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Provençale-style pizzas in a romantic setting |
Prinsgatan 7 Gothenburg 41305 Sweden +46 31 14 3110 |
Cyrano is a top-class French pizzeria. The à la carte menu is small, but the pizzas are the main reason people come. There is a special pizza menu, which includes a starter and a dessert, for SEK125 (EUR14.75), but this offer only includes one kind of pizza. It's impossible to reserve a table, but those who are willing to wait can sit at the bar. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a small restaurant in Provence. Trams 1, 3, 4 and 9 all stopping at the nearby Järntorget. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional local Italian cuisine |
Kungsgatan 6B Gothenburg 411 19 Sweden +46 31 13 7372 |
In its quiet location in the centre of town; Fontana di Trevi is a romantic oasis within the hustle and bustle of city life. The menu offers a number of Italian delicacies such as prosciutto ham with melon, and tiramisù. Besides fish and meat courses there are also some pasta dishes to choose from; these are slightly cheaper. The restaurant is small and cosy, with large mirrors and Italian curiosities on the walls. The small terrace area is the most romantic part of the restaurant, definitely a good background for a proposal! The nearest tram stop is Järntorget (tram lines 1, 3, 4 and 9), but it is quite a walk from there; it is simpler to take buses 19, 64, 85, 86 or 114 to Esperantoplatsen or splash out on a taxi. Exclusive, homely feeling |
Haga Nygata 12 Gothenburg 41301 Sweden +46 31 13 4090 |
Right in the middle of Haga, Hemma hos (the equivalent of Chez) has a nice view of the cobbled street and the passersby. Hemma hos emphasises a familiar yet exclusive atmosphere and has a selection of well made, tasty dishes. The décor is simple but at the same time very romantic. The food is better than oher restaurants in Haga generally offer, and therefore also more expensive; but there is also a bar menu with a number of dishes. Nearest tram stop: Hagakyrkan (lines 1, 3, 4 and 9). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Romantic basement restaurant |
Östra Larmgatan 20 Gothenburg 41107 Sweden +46 31 711 8540 |
Källarkrogen (Basement Restaurant) is in the middle of town and has been a restaurant for forty years. But the food-related activities have taken place in the building since the eighteenth century, when a butcher had his shop here. Typical for Gothenburg's restaurants is plenty of fish and seafood; this is true for Källarkrogen as well. Most of the starters are marine in nature, but there are plenty of meat dishes among the main courses. The restaurant is also open for lunch. It is very cosy, with low brick vaults and lots of candles. Definitely romantic. The nearest tram stop is Kungsportsplatsen, where lines 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Turn-of-the-century setting |
Linnégatan 32 Gothenburg 41304 Sweden +46 31 24 0890 |
This building is over a hundred years old and was decorated in a style typical of that period. The owners have striven to recreate this environment with hand-printed wallpaper, benches stuck to the walls, panels and mahogany furniture. The menu, however, is not outdated; in fact the restaurant strives to be innovative. It is a sister restaurant to the more exclusive 28+, but uses simpler ingredients and has lower prices. The large veranda is extremely popular in the summer. The view of Linnéstan is magnificent and the antique setting inside a perfect complement. Review © 2007, Wcities |
