Dining area with mixed menu downstairs, bar upstairs |
Kungsportsavenyn 29 Gothenburg 411 36 Sweden +46 31 20 6087 |
Babar has a pleasant dining area with large windows overlooking Avenyn. The menu is mixed, with selections of vegetarian dishes, seafood and roasts. Both traditional dishes and modern ones are on offer. The dining room has a very different ambience from the bar; it has a sense of intimacy and cosiness. Upstairs, the bar sports a games area and large windows, also overlooking Avenyn. These make the bar seem larger than it actually is. Every day the bar offers a two—for—one deal on most drinks until 10pm, and on Sundays the offer is valid all night. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Restaurant with 132 different kinds of beer |
Drottninggatan 41 Gothenburg 41107 Sweden +46 31 710 1160 |
Brasserie Ferdinand is right in the centre of Gothenburg, under the large store NK. Ferdinand was voted Beer Restaurant of the Year in 1996, and beer probably is the main item of interest here. There are 132 different brands of beer, most of them bottled. But Brasserie Ferdinand also has a varied menu, with both meat and fish dishes. There is always a vegetarian main course and every weekday between 5p and 8p, they serve a Dinner of the Day for SEK58 (EUR6.44). There is also a bar menu with slightly cheaper dishes, such as seafood soup or chili with nachos and trimmings. For those interested in organising some fun for a group of people, there are beer-tasting nights which are only available by booking. These include the history of beer and the information on how beer is distilled, among other things. The nearest tram stop is Brunnsparken, where all trams stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Small place with a large menu |
Karl Johansgatan 58 Gothenburg 41455 Sweden +46 31 42 2530 http://www.restbryggan.com |
Bryggan is in Majorna and caters mainly to the local residents. Yet it is a cosy little place, with many different dishes to choose from. There is some vegetarian food, and even a few meat and fish dishes. Most of the menu is made up of pizzas and pasta dishes. There are also a few kebab plates, as well as salads and desserts. The restaurant is small, dominated by a large mural of the ocean. Bryggan means The Jetty. The nearest tram stop is Chapmans torg, where lines 3 and 9 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Greek and Turkish specialities |
Kungsgatan 20 Gothenburg 41119 Sweden +46 31 711 0820 |
Galini does well in both Greek and Turkish cuisine. The restaurant is one of the least expensive in Gothenburg, and also very popular. Besides the many Greek and Turkish starters, mains and desserts, there is also a pasta menu and a few different salads to choose from. There is also a smaller menu for children. The location is perfect for lunch guests, not quite in the centre of the shopping district but not too far away, either. So it is usually full at lunchtime but a little emptier in the evenings. The nearest tram stop is Grönsakstorget, where lines 1, 2, 4, 7 and 9 stop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Exclusive and expensive with cheaper bar menu |
Djupedalsgatan 2 Gothenburg 413 07 Sweden +46 31 12 1031 |
Hos Pelle has been awarded an environmental diploma by the City of Gothenburg because of its eco friendly services. The food is modern and expensive and includes a lot of seafood, at least in the starters. There is also duck, several meat dishes and a vegetarian dish that varies according to the season. Hos Pelle is an exclusive restaurant with high standards, holding its own against the competition. There is also a cheaper bar menu for those who would like to sit in the bar area. Popular lunch restaurant with live music |
Värmlandsgatan 18 Gothenburg 41328 Sweden +46 31 12 5549 |
Louice has live music every Friday and Saturday. Apart from the live music, the lunches are the big draw. This place is usually full at lunchtime, mostly because the eatery offers speedy service and three different specials to choose from. The menu is international, with everything from wok to pasta dishes. Of course, there is also plenty of traditional Swedish cooking. The nearest tram stop is Järntorget. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Seasonal restaurant overlooking the ocean |
Talattagatan 14 Gothenburg 42676 Sweden +46 31 29 1412 |
Långedrags Paviljong is both a restaurant and a café. It is located only 40 metres from the ocean and has plenty of marine tidbits on offer. The restaurant does a lot of catering, arranges weddings and conferences and can whip up a shrimp or seafood buffet for larger parties. The activities are very seasonal; the à la carte menu is only available in the summer and in the winter the restaurant shuts earlier. The café is also open all year round. The nearest tram stop is Långedrag, served by line 4. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Indian food in a typical setting |
Första Långgatan 8 Gothenburg 41303 Sweden +46 31 14 1180 |
Indian food, cooked by an Indian chef. A large variety of chicken, lamb, seafood and vegetarian dishes are available. There is also a set menu for large parties, which consists of a number of different dishes. The prices are very reasonable. At lunchtime, there are always two daily special,s which differ every day. There are also three set lunches available. There is always a vegetarian alternative. The décor is typically Indian, with the exception perhaps of the jars of chilli paste on the shelves above the tables. These sport such exciting names such as Hot Hot Hot and pictures of red devils. Whether their purpose is to excite interest or scare dinner guests is as yet unknown. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italian restaurant in Majorna |
Chapmans torg 2 Gothenburg 414 54 Sweden +46 31 42 2256 |
A small Italian restaurant primarily for those who live in the Majorna area, Marsala will also attract others. Besides the many dishes there is a large selection of Italian delicacies, from olive oil and vinegar to cookies and pasta, for sale at the restaurant. The starters are divided into Contorni (small dishes), Insalate (salads), Antipasti and Zuppe (soups). Besides fish and meat dishes, main courses also include pizza and pasta. The pizzas are cooked in a wood oven, and, as is usual in Italy (but seldom seen in Sweden), the cheese used is mozzarella. Lunch is served on weekdays, and consists of a choice of fish, meat or pasta. Salad, a beverage and coffee are included. Nearest tram stop: Chapmans torg (lines 3 and 9). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bar with small menu |
Nordstan Box 11433 Gothenburg 404 29 Sweden +46 31 15 4044 |
Murveln is slang for "Journalist"; at one time this place may have been teeming with them, but it certainly is not today. The clientele are a varied bunch, most of whom come for a drink and perhaps some food. In the daytime they can be tired shoppers dropping by for an afternoon beer; in the evenings anyone will show up. This is because Murveln is in the middle of Nordstan, by daylight a large shopping mall, but at night a shelter from the cold or a shortcut to the railway station. Many come for the different casino and lottery games. Murveln offers cheap lunches, and a special of the week is available. The food is typically Swedish, while beer and spirits are the main items. Pizzeria with midnight menu and a bit more |
Kristinelundsgatan 13 Gothenburg 411 37 Sweden +46 31 18 4478 |
This restaurant has, as the name suggests, several prints of Picasso's artwork in the dining area. But the food itself is not very different from that of many other restaurants in Gothenburg. The menu is large and varied, most dishes are available in half-portions and apart from the regular main courses there is also a pizza and a pasta menu. Many of the dishes are available for take-away. And for anyone who like munchies late at night, there is a midnight menu, offered from 11p, with everything from olives to chili-marinated chicken and desserts. Picasso also sells cigars. Traditional Swedish food at reasonable prices |
Vasaplatsen 3 Gothenburg 411 24 Sweden +46 31 13 2247 http://www.smaka.se |
Good, traditional dishes are served here for modest prices in a dark blue milieu. The design is simple yet impressive, as is the food. Smaka (Taste) has received many points from local food critics. The Swedish meatballs here are famous. The bar is very popular, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. There is an After Work hour on Fridays where guests are offered a free buffet and cheap beer and wine. It may get a bit rowdy, and perhaps crowded, but if all you want is a meal, you will not be disturbed if you arrive around nine. It seldom gets noisy before ten. Review © 2007, Wcities |
