In 1962 a stone wall, shaped like a ring, was excavated. It is nearly 4m thick and has a diameter of approx. 19 metres. Archaeologists discovered that it was the foundation of a tower that was to house the archbishop in the grounds of Hammaburg, then the core of the city. A smaller ring next to this big one is shown in St. Petri Community Centre. The development of this former extension of the fortress of Hammaburg is also documented. Review © 2009, Wcities |
