On the Campus |
Von-Melle-Park 4 Hamburg 20146 Germany +49 40 428 387 05 http://www.marketing.uni-hambu... |
The Audimax is more than an amphitheater where students listen to major lectures or organize their protests. It's also a great hall seating up to 1664 people and hosting numerous events. Sometimes a theater, sometimes a movie theater and sometimes a concert hall, it has a great sound system and a wide stage to host major performances. Besides the main hall that can be divided in two, the Foyer, with its glass wall is very much enjoyable to visitors keen to take part in campus life. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Highlight of the Ballet Season |
Caspar-Voght-Strasse 54 Hamburg, Hamburg 20355 Germany +49 (0)40 211 1880 http://www.hamburgballett.de/ |
Every summer, the Hamburg Ballet finishes its season with the Ballett-Tage, a fortnight-long orgy of ballet and dance. John Neumaier, manager and artistic director of the Hamburgische Staatsoper, started this tradition in 1975. The programme includes works by Neumaier and his students, as well as by international guest ensembles. The highlight of the Ballett-Tage is the Nijinksi Gala on the final night, which features numerous international guests and always deals with a specific aspect of the history of ballet and dance. World class opera house and ballet |
Große Theaterstraße 34 Hamburg, Hamburg 20354 Germany +49 (0)40 35 6868 http://www.hamburgische-staats... |
One of the most famous opera houses in the world, Hamburg's Staatsoper attracts a host of international stars who perform pieces ranging from classical to contemporary. A small stage - the Opera Stablile - stages productions of new, experimental pieces. The building dates from the 1950s, but the opera itself was founded as long ago as 1678. The current musical director is Ingo Metzmacher, a darling of the critics and winner of numerous awards. The Hamburg Ballet is directed by John Neumeier, whose daring productions of modern ballets have audiences crying out for more. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Cultural centre with theatre stages and concert rooms |
Jarrestraße 20 Hamburg, Hamburg 22303 Germany +49 (0)40 270 9490 http://www.kampnagel.de/ |
The factory halls built here in 1865 are now the venue of a culture complex of international renown. There are concert halls, nightclubs, and a cinema. The many stages are mainly used by independent theatre companies and are much frequented. The halls were actually meant to be demolished in the 1980s, but now they are no longer to be ignored. Many international festivals are also held here, be they in the fields of dance, music or theatre. Moreover, popular flea and antiques markets take place here, and there is a café and bar for visitors. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Versatile establishment in Barmbek |
Maurienstraße 19 Hamburg, Hamburg 22305 Germany +49 (0)40 299 2021 http://www.zinnschmelze.de/ |
The Zinnschmelze in Barmbek is located near the museum of work. It is a very versatile venue and community centre with lots of interesting offers for the young and the slightly older. Every Sunday at 2p, for example, you can try out all kinds of board games for free at the establishment´s café. There are also darts and cardgame meetings. Children are offered handicrafts and film afternoons. The older ones can come here for disco nights, exhibitions, salsa-events and lectures, but the Zinnschmelze´s emphasis is on theatre and live music. Young drama groups perform their plays here, and you can also see comedians on stage. Concerts vary from jazz, folk and Latin music to Andalusian nights. Review © 2007, Wcities |
