Barmstedt is a popular recreational area in the north of Hamburg. The Rantzauer lake is one of the main attractions, and you can take long walks here. The castle island of Rantzau and the buildings on its premises are one of Schleswig-Holstein´s cultural monuments. There is a café at the castle´s former prison, where you can enjoy excellent waffles-perhaps the best ones in the entire region. You can also hire pedalos here.
