Amtrak

American dishes in an old railway station
Bahngärten 28
Hamburg, Hamburg 22041
Germany

The Amtrak restaurant is at home in the waiting room of Hamburg´s oldest railway station. Good, cheap dishes are served here. It's not all that comfortable here, but sixteen different international beers and a number of cocktails are available. A varied clientele frequent this place. In addition to an inexpensive meal, they can enjoy watching the Super Bowl games on a large screen television. A beer garden, which is quite nice to sit in also belongs to the business. Steaks, spare ribs and vegetarian dishes like baked potatoes with different fillings.

Graceland

American food, but not the fast kind
Stresemannstraße 374
Hamburg, Hamburg 22761
Germany

American fast food chains can be found everywhere, but real American cuisine is hard to find. Graceland has done its best to change this, and serves up authentic American and Caribbean specialities at reasonable prices. The food is often fairly spicy. Guests can choose from a fine selection of drinks at the bar, and even purchase some of the wines, sauces and spices to take home. Sometimes there is also a treat for the ears, when live jazz bands bring a touch of the Deep South to Hamburg. Examples of dishes include crab cake, Jamaican pork jerky, fried chicken or fish and Deep South pecan pie.

New York Deli

Sandwiches and other American specialities
Im Levantehaus, Mönckebergstraße 7
Hamburg, Hamburg 20095
Germany

A sandwich consists of two slices of bread and a filling. Sounds boring? Not at the New York Deli, where sandwiches are a work of art. Six different kinds of bread are filled according to your wishes, and at decent prices too. The scrumptious burgers, fresh bagels and delicious American cakes are also worth a try. The original Ben & Jerry's ice-cream (declared the world's best ice-cream by Time Magazine) is a firm favourite, but is fairly pricey. The clientele is mixed, the atmosphere relaxed. A popular main dish is the hamburger with chips and salad for; snacks include sandwiches and bagels; while ice-cream lovers should go for the Ben&Jerry's ice-cream at a scoop.

R&B

Bar and restaurant with Blues and Jazz
Weidenallee 20
Hamburg, Hamburg 20357
Germany
+49 (0)40 44 1044
The R&B is both an original bar and a restaurant. Countless pictures of blues and jazz musicians decorate the walls, and their music can also be heard here. While the bar's decor is somewhat over the top, the restaurant area has been tastefully furnished. The mixed regulars enjoy browsing through the many American pop-culture magazines, and gather in the bar at around 10pm. Apart from mainly German dishes, the odd representative of the Southern States' cuisine like duck or Jambalaya can be found on the menu. Lunch is served from midday until 3p. From 11p until midnight, tasty snacks like soups and spare ribs are still available for late guests. And of course you can get American beers here, too.

Red Tree

Tex-Mex food in the Rothenbaum district
Rothenbaumchaussee 109
Hamburg, Hamburg 20148
Germany
+49 (0)40 4133 8885
The American restaurant in the Rothenbaum neighbourhood offers a large choice of Tex-Mex dishes in a bright and friendly ambience. The wood and glass front of the Red Tree, as well as its beautiful arched door actually create an inviting Southern States drugstore atmosphere. The menu covers much more than a choice of burgers, chicken wings and spare ribs. Among the starters there are salads, tortillas with roast duck and hot sauce, and black bean soup. The main courses range from catfish and turkey to poultry and loin of beef dishes. Lunch specials change frequently.
