Alex im Alsterpavillon

The Alsterpavillon is now run by the Alex chain and boasts folding glass walls, ten open-plan kitchens and space for concerts, exhibitions and functions for up to 800 people. The original pavilion was built in 1799 and has always been popular with day-trippers, shoppers and sun worshippers. Located opposite Jungfernstieg shopping street, this is a great place to stop off for a coffee, beer or cocktail. The views over Lake Alster are fantastic, the prices accordingly steep.

You sit aside from the hectic life and the bustle but you are yet right in the middle of it, as the café and restaurant provides a good view of the restless shoppers. The café is usually very busy, so the noise level is not exactly relaxing. But the menu is very nice. In addition to the hot drink which gave the place its name, there is a choice of sophisticated hot meals to supply you with the energy you need for another round of shopping.
