Restaurant and theatre under one roof |
Hudtwalckerstraße 13 Hamburg, Hamburg 22999 Germany +49 (0)40 4607 2828 http://www.allegria-restaurant... |
The Allegria offers modern international cuisine, and shares its premises with the Komödie at Winterhuder Fährhaus. That is why the following unusual service is available -you can take a break between courses, go to the theatre, and then return to your meal. The restaurant has large windows facing the Alster river. They use both spotlights and other lighting effects to create a bright and stylish postmodern ambience. In their own words, the Allegria offers "ambitious Austro-Mediterranean" cuisine. An excellent wine list caters for the wide variety of different guests and even satisfies the most demanding experts. Extra rooms for private or business celebrations and a party-service are also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Drinks with Latin American or Classical music |
Bismarckstraße 10 Hamburg, Hamburg 20259 Germany +49 (0)40 4018 9611 http://www.sweet-dreams-confis... |
This pleasant pub location in Eppendorf has a discreet, sophisticated ambience, which somehow doesn't seem to go with the remarkably low prices here but surprisingly, there is no catch. The Art Nouveau decor and the exquisite wine list ensure that true connoisseurs will return to the Sweet Virginia-as will fans of subdued Latin American background music (as opposed to the blasting disco-volume you have to shout above in other places). Versatile concert and events venue |
Rothenbaumchaussee 13 Hamburg, Hamburg 20148 Germany +49 (0)40 4190 2224 http://www.curiohaus.de |
The Curio house has a striking facade and a lot to offer inside. It used to be the students' cafeteria but fortunately, the beautiful building was renovated into a very versatile concert and events venue. Sports and costume balls are held frequently in the large old ballroom and on the second Friday of every month there is a popular singles party called Fisch sucht Fahrrad. The Curio house has got an excellent restaurant. Nothing remains to indicate that it was once a student cafeteria-except for the size of the room itself. The chef provides his guests with an outstanding service and sophisticated cuisine for discerning palates. There also is a nice old concert hall here decorated in burgundy with an enormous chandelier. Here, Jazz and Latin music are played in a festive ambience. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Swabian cuisine in a former monastery |
Borsteler Chaussee 1 Hamburg, Hamburg 22453 Germany +49 (0)40 511 7877 |
This restaurant is not located in the city centre, but as Swabian and Bavarian cuisine and specialties from Baden are a bit exotic for Hamburg standards, it is well worth the short journey. A closer look at the menu also reveals a choice of Alsatian dishes. The Markgraf is located in an historical building with a very beautiful old stained glass door, which separates two of the dining rooms. It used to belong to Eppendorf monastery. Complimentary goats cheese and a platter of tempting starters provide a sample of the culinary treats on offer here. The mains include game and corn fed chicken dishes, which are very nice and very filling. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Unconventional ambience, sophisticated cuisine |
Neuer Pferdemarkt 5 Hamburg, h 20359 Germany +49 (0)40 439 7823 http://www.restaurant-nil.de |
The media crowd who patronise this establishment just love the fifties-style interior and unconventional ambience. Indeed, the setting-an old shoe shop-is a strange one for such sophisticated culinary creations. A team of skilled chefs treat guests to such delicacies as Tafelspitz (fillet of beef), exquisite fish dishes, gorgeous seasonal salads and scrumptious desserts. And not only is the quality good-the reasonable prices make this one of the best tips in town for bon viveurs. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Asian and European cuisine |
Grindelhof 77 Hamburg, Hamburg 20146 Germany +49 (0)40 45 6588 |
Although located in the middle of the university district, this place is not crowded with students, which can probably be put down to the prices. Admittedly, the waiters are more attentive to regular customers and VIPs, but eating here as a 'normal' guest is also excellent. The friendly service and great meals make up for the somewhat cool interior design. The dishes are inspired mixtures of European and Asian cuisine and can be ordered as starters or main courses depending on how hungry you are. Not everybody appreciates the extra service charge.
