Popular, comfortable restaurant |
Dorotheenstraße 33 Hamburg, Hamburg 22301 Germany +49 (0)40 280 7698 |
You'll be able to eat high quality and luxurious morsels here, such as caviar and oysters. Non-fish dishes are also available; this place has a very creative kitchen! All this immediately makes up for any dissatisfaction you may feel about the crowded restaurant or the occasionally rushed staff. The little basement restaurant is located in a corner building. It is pleasantly lit, and despite the extravaganza and odd hectic moment, the atmosphere is mostly comfortable and relaxed. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The crowd that comes in is a mix of tourists and locals, so fitting in is never an issue here. The food, with its eclectic flavors coming from French, Italian and German cuisines, adds worth to your visit. German charms |
Kampstraße 27 Hamburg, Hamburg 20357 Germany +49 (0)40 4210 2915 http://www.artisan-hamburg.com/ |
Folks in Hamburg like to experiment with their food - the restaurants cater to a variety of tastes, especially to those involving fusion food. Artisan is one such joint, serving interesting tapa-style dishes in an informal atmosphere. The locals apparently like it, for the place is often full. Evenings find people dressing for glamor, and this spirit is reflected by the restaurant. Elaborate white tablecloths and seven-course menus turn up in all their splendor. If you miss out on the alcohol, the prices are just right. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Kempinski Hotel Atlantic's restaurant is a popular venue for business meals and festivities. As well as fine dishes like lobster, vierländer duck and venison, the restaurant offers impeccable service and a grand view of Lake Alster. It's often worth coming here just to see the celebrities who patronise the establishment, but even if there are no celebrities to be found, the culinary delights and stylish ambience will make your visit a memorable one. Located beside the River Elbe, this refurbished cold-storage depot now houses one of the best restaurants in the city, offering a great ambience teamed with great food. Done-up in earthy hues and plenty of wood, it is a true summer delight, particularly the terrace seating area. The food is a classic combination of French and Italian cuisines, with a range of delicious seafood dishes on offer. So if enjoying dinner with a brilliant view of shimmering waters and bobbing boats is your idea of a perfect evening, then a visit to Au Quai is on the cards! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Excellent food, a large choice of wine and a fantastic view of the Elbe all make an evening in this modern establishment a memorable experience. Le Canard is not only popular with local gourmets; it has also earned a reputation which extends well beyond city limits. The exquisite culinary creations by chef Josef Viehauser certainly deserve to be savoured in a luxurious ambience which features the likes of Thonet chairs, Angerer crockery and Rodenstock glass. Creative international cuisine |
Greifswalder Straße 43 Hamburg, Hamburg 20099 Germany +49 (0)40 24 9422 http://www.restaurant-cox.de |
'Innovative' and 'creative' are words that describe Cox extremely well. The spacious dining rooms are simple but stylish, making this the perfect place to relax and enjoy great food. As well as classic French and Italian dishes, the menu contains a selection of excellent international specialities in the mid-to-top price category. Yet the prices certainly haven't stopped people from coming here and booking is essential. Try the fillet of halibut with coriander and rice, venison ravioli on spinach with goat's cheese or the grated mango and mascarpone gratin. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Exquisite Asian cuisine |
Neuer Jungfernstieg 9-14 Raffles Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Hamburg, Hamburg 20354 Germany +49 (0)40 349 4333 http://www.raffles-hvj.de/inde... |
Doc Cheng's restaurant is located by Alster Lake and is highly recommended when it comes to quality Eurasian dishes. The portions are a little small and may not make it a necessity, but the beautiful surroundings invite a walk after dining here. The restaurant's Asian interior is of a high standard, just like at the exclusive hotel next door. The clientele is varied due to the moderate prices. This restaurant at the Vier Jahreszeiten hotel is not a mainstream Eurasian place, but a place where exciting new creations in Asian cooking are made. There is a fine choice of exotic teas, sophisticated wines and nice beers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Friedensallee 9 Hamburg, Hamburg 22765 Germany +49 (0)40 390 4606 |
The pizzas here are a regular favorite - known to be the 'best in the country', the pastas too are delicious enough for any Italian food lover. The crowd that comes in is generally a pre-theatre one or then locals looking for a quick and light meal. The sassy decor and the general energy filled atmosphere of the eatery is just one of the reasons for its consistent popularity! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Health conscious |
Verlagsgruppe Milchstrasse Mittelweg 177 Hamburg, Hamburg 20148 Germany +49 (0)40 4131 3401 http://www.fitforfun.de/ |
This is a health conscious place in one of Hamburg´s finest neighbourhoods, namely Harvestehude/Rotherbaum. Everything is rich in vitamins, low in fat and freshly prepared. In a somewhat uncomfortable atmosphere, salads, wok and sushi dishes are offered amongst other things. A different Quick-Lunch is offered every day-this is served within ten minutes for rushed and stressed people from the media industry, but not only for those, of course. The meals can be enjoyed with freshly pressed fruit juices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Small but tasty |
Koppel 76 Hamburg, Hamburg 20099 Germany +49 (0)40 280 3660 http://www.geelhaus.de |
One will come along this pub only if one is actually looking for it. The 5 minutes walk from the main station are definitely worth the effort because the menu offers a small but unusual and affordable selection of dishes. The Geelhaus is located in a rather quiet street but is connected with the Lange Reihe by a passageway. The wooden floor is really old, the floor-boards are creaking accordingly. In contrast, the yellow walls bring some freshness to the room. Rather unique are the lamps that are made of welded scrap. Every dish is freshly prepared. Therefore one might to have to wait a bit longer. Some dishes combine ingredients in an unusual but delicious way: e.g. spaghetti with cashew-sauce, or chicken-salad with orange-slices and green pepper. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Rustic country charm and stylish flower arrangements are the additional ingredients which accompany the high quality meat and fish specialities prepared by the chef. The terrace, hidden from the nearby street by a high hedge, is the perfect place to savour the fine Austro-German and French cuisine. In addition to its pricey gourmet dishes, Landhaus Dill also offers good value lunchtime specials. Fine Austrian and Italian wines provide the perfect accompaniment to your meal. Regional cuisine with an international touch |
Elbchaussee 130 Hamburg, Hamburg 22763 Germany +49 (0)40 880 1325 http://www.landhausscherrer.de/ |
At home in a traditional country house which dates back to 1827, Landhaus Scherrer; named after the Scherrer family who have run it since 1976; is widely regarded as being one of the very best restaurants in town. The chef specializes in exquisite regional cuisine with an international touch, while the owner has made sure that the assortment of wine is equally exclusive. The majority of the clientèle are well-off locals. The bistro offers slightly less expensive dishes, which the chef prepares just as passionately as his specialty, vierländer duck. Swabian cuisine in a former monastery |
Borsteler Chaussee 1 Hamburg, Hamburg 22453 Germany +49 (0)40 511 7877 |
This restaurant is not located in the city centre, but as Swabian and Bavarian cuisine and specialties from Baden are a bit exotic for Hamburg standards, it is well worth the short journey. A closer look at the menu also reveals a choice of Alsatian dishes. The Markgraf is located in an historical building with a very beautiful old stained glass door, which separates two of the dining rooms. It used to belong to Eppendorf monastery. Complimentary goats cheese and a platter of tempting starters provide a sample of the culinary treats on offer here. The mains include game and corn fed chicken dishes, which are very nice and very filling. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The media crowd who patronise this establishment just love the fifties-style interior and unconventional ambience. Indeed, the setting-an old shoe shop-is a strange one for such sophisticated culinary creations. A team of skilled chefs treat guests to such delicacies as Tafelspitz (fillet of beef), exquisite fish dishes, gorgeous seasonal salads and scrumptious desserts. And not only is the quality good-the reasonable prices make this one of the best tips in town for bon viveurs. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Good and imaginative French cuisine at affordable prices is on offer here. The décor is admittedly not the nicest you will come across, but the good food, luxurious wine list and friendly service can't fail to impress. In addition to classic Breton cuisine, a variety of excellent fish dishes is on offer here. Those familiar with the restaurant do not ask for the menu but enquire about the daily specials. Known for its creative cuisine, Rexrodt's offers one or two daily specials, as well as seasonal French, Italian and German dishes. Excellent desserts and some first class wines complete the selection. The building actually used to be an abattoir, but the art nouveau ambience and shiny tiles on the walls now attract media people, lawyers and journalists. The old begets the new |
St. Pauli Hafenstrasse 136-138 Hamburg, Hamburg 20359 Germany +49 40 3179 4660 http://www.restaurant-schauerm... |
Expect some hoity-toity folk at this eatery, which contrasts starkly with the streets outside. Retro 60's décor transports you back in time and puts you in the mood to party. The food is German, with a few Mediterranean influences – quite novel – which is, essentially, the crowd-puller. It would help to be familiar with German, or to have a knowledgeable pal around to guide you through the menu, which, once deciphered, can prove to be both intriguing and satisfying. Neumühlen 17 Hamburg, Hamburg 22763 Germany +49 (0)40 89 2760 http://www.tafelhaus-hamburg.de/ |
The small and pretty Tafelhaus is located in the not exactly attractive neighborhood of an industrial estate, but it cannot complain about a lack of guests. Lovers of the varied, fresh cuisine on offer here still find their way to the restaurant. The light dishes, with Mediterranean and sometimes a hint of Asian flavour, are the trademark of this free, creative cuisine which is among the best in Hamburg. The Tafelhaus has a very well-arranged wine cellar with over 400 different French and German red and white wines. The 5-course dinner, which is frequently rethought at with new ingredients, is recommended for a special occasion. You'll also be able to get a good midday meal here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Asian and European cuisine |
Grindelhof 77 Hamburg, Hamburg 20146 Germany +49 (0)40 45 6588 |
Although located in the middle of the university district, this place is not crowded with students, which can probably be put down to the prices. Admittedly, the waiters are more attentive to regular customers and VIPs, but eating here as a 'normal' guest is also excellent. The friendly service and great meals make up for the somewhat cool interior design. The dishes are inspired mixtures of European and Asian cuisine and can be ordered as starters or main courses depending on how hungry you are. Not everybody appreciates the extra service charge. Fresh fish in a former fish cannery |
Große Freiheit 70 Hamburg, Hamburg 22767 Germany +49 (0)40 319 1214 http://www.weite-welt.de/ |
The Weite Welt (wide world) begins where the Große Freiheit (big freedom) ends, and that´s in a former fish canning factory. Here, hidden in a backyard, a first class bistro with a cocktail bar can be found. It mainly attracts young night-clubbers with a discerning palate and suitable income. Fresh fish is delivered three times a week and you can enjoy fish dishes in a relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere. The house´s wine cellar is filled with an impressive 50,000 bottles and the wine list (40 pages long) leaves nothing to ask for. An oasis in the red light district. Review © 2007, Wcities |
