Sip on a refreshing beverage and enjoy the view of Aussenalster, a scenic lake in the North part of the city. This area is particularly trendy but not too touristy, so you'll get a feel for the true European marina lifestyle.

Anna

Nouvelle cuisine for discerning customers
Neuer Wall 50 / Bleichenbrücke
Hamburg, Hamburg 20354
Germany
+49 (0)40 36 7014
Pleasantly situated at Bleichenbrücke bridge, Anna offers exquisite meals for the discerning palate. The chef rustles up exotic dishes influenced by Italian, Japanese and German nouvelle cuisine. The interior is tastefully furnished with plenty of plants and strong colours, creating a bright and cheerful atmosphere. In summer, guests can dine on the floating terrace in front of the restaurant. The regulars include local business people, politicians and high society. With a selection of no more than 10 dishes, the menu is short but sweet. Popular choices include the platter of mixed starters, Austrian meat dishes, Italian chicken specialities, delightful salmon and tender asparagus.

On the top floor of the Bavaria-Brewery, you will find this restaurant, decorated in a grand petit-bourgeois style and boasting spectacular views over the harbour. Good traditional North German cuisine is prepared and served with lots of loving care here, examples being Hamburg eel soup, plaice and sole. A reduced price menu is also available in the evenings after theatre performances and musicals have finished. The Bavaria Blick is mainly frequented by tourists and businessmen.

Bobby Reich

An Alster view and good service
Fernsicht 2
Hamburg, Hamburg 22301
Germany
+49 (0)40 48 7824
http://www.bobbyreich.de/
Bobby Reich's spic and span restaurant and café is one of the most popular locations alongside the Greater Alster lake. It presides over a beautiful view, a beautiful crowd and a pleasant atmosphere. In summer, it can easily become a problem to get hold of a free seat outside on the jetty, although there are 250 of them. The staff might take a while to deliver all the orders when the place is busy, but regulars usually don't mind waiting. In winter, up to 100 guests can sit inside and enjoy a hot drink or a glass of mulled wine and the newspaper. Hot meals such as turkey slices, plain cooking and fish at reasonable prices are available from midday until 3pm and from 6-11p. Apart from beer, wine, champagne, long drinks and cocktails, you can get soft drinks and hot drinks.

Café and restaurant with a view of the Elbe and the sea
Ponton Neumühlen
Hamburg, Hamburg 22763
Germany
+49 (0)40 39 7383
http://www.museumshafen-cafe.de/
This café and restaurant on a discarded Elbe ferry in the harbour-museum at Oevelgönne has both regional cuisine and a view of the river Elbe. The ferry with the café is located between the old ships and the steam crane in the harbour-museum. In the summer the roof can be taken off for an even better view. If you don´t get seasick you will enjoy dining here, but it can get a bit rough. Aboard, everything from breakfast, fish dishes with herring variations and hearty plain cooking, to coffee, tea and cake in the afternoon, and even beer and other beverages for the late night guests, is available at reasonable prices. On Sundays from 11a-2p there is a sumptuous brunch for EUR 12.50.

From 10am-2.30pm there's an exquisite brunch available. Coffee and juice are included in the price. In the afternoon, cakes and gateaux are on the menu. Hot meals are prepared until 10.30pm. There are excellent main courses with fish or meat and very nice side dishes on the menu, all a bit expensive, but their high quality justifies the price. All the meals here are recommended.

Excellent food, a large choice of wine and a fantastic view of the Elbe all make an evening in this modern establishment a memorable experience. Le Canard is not only popular with local gourmets; it has also earned a reputation which extends well beyond city limits. The exquisite culinary creations by chef Josef Viehauser certainly deserve to be savoured in a luxurious ambience which features the likes of Thonet chairs, Angerer crockery and Rodenstock glass.

Time has come to begin your culinary journey to former Indochina – the current Laos, Kampuchea and Vietnam. At IndoChine, enjoy Vietnamese specialties influenced by French cuisine. In a unique atmosphere and design, the restaurant mixes the culture and food from the former French colony with the modern customs of Europe. While enjoying the view over Hamburg harbor from the terrace, try their famous prawn, duck or spring rolls. Raw food lovers should go for one of their Larb dishes (marinated raw tuna, salmon or beef). The seafood Menu is amazing and won't leave you dissatisfied. Vegetarians will find a great selection of dishes too. If you just want to have a drink on the Terrace, go to the Bar SáVánh that offers special cocktails on Blue Hour during the sunset. For a refreshing adventure, head towards Alpha Noble IceBar in the same building.

Kouros

Going Greek....
An der Alster 28
Hamburg, Hamburg 20099
Germany
+49 (0)40 24 4540
This restaurant is named after a Greek youth. The northern side of this corner building provides a wonderful view of the Alster. The little Kouros' interior is plain, but tastefully decorated. The windowsills are adorned with statues of gods, goddesses and athletic youths. The Greek at the Alster is one of the most popular Greek restaurants in Hamburg, very popular with the gay community. The menu has traditional Greek cuisine with meat and fish dishes, gnocchi and soufflés. The meals are carefully prepared by skilled hands, so the results are a feast for both the eyes and the palate. The waiter can recommend a fine suitable wine with every meal.

Rive

Riverside restaurant
Van-der-Smissen-Straße 1
Hamburg, Hamburg 22767
Germany
+49 (0)40 380 5919
http://www.rive-hamburg.de/
This restaurant, which specializes in excellent fish dishes, is located near the ferry terminal on the River Elbe. For starters, a container ship might chug past your table and during the main course the passengers on a cruise ship might wave at you: the view is simply fantastic. The mixed seafood platter is highly recommended and so are the lobster and regional specialties, but the high quality offered here certainly has its price. You can sit outside on the terrace (heated during Spring and Autumn) and looking out over the water.

Sander Dickkopp

Restaurant in a water tower
Richard-Linde-Weg 21f
Hamburg, Hamburg 21033
Germany
+49 (0)40 730 3676
The restaurant with the funny name (Dickkopp = pighead) can be found in an old water tower in the Boberg dunes. Apart from plain cooking, it also offers live music during the summer months. A lot of day trippers take a break here, especially during the weekend. In the warmer months, the spacious garden becomes a popular extra room, because open-air concerts take place at the Dickkopp every other Saturday night. At the water tower itself, you can also enjoy readings or see exhibitions. From 7p-11:30p (half past midnight on weekends) the kitchen creates salads as well as the Dickkopp - an unleavened bread topped with cheese and lightly browned. The inexpensive cuisine is rather popular with young visitors.

Hamburg, Hamburg 22763
Germany
+49 (0)40 390 9016

The name of this small but exclusive gourmet restaurant ('The White House'), has nothing to do with the Oval Office. Idylically situated at the Museum Harbour Övelgönne, the restaurant offers beautiful views of the old boats and the River Elbe. The menu consists of sophisticated international cuisine with an emphasis on European meat and fish dishes. The clientele is a mixture of young and old, and on warm summer evenings, the place basks in a Mediterranean glow.

Zollenspieker Fährhaus

Former customs post
Zollenspieker Hauptdeich 143
Hamburg, Hamburg 21037
Germany
+49 (0)40 793 1330
http://www.zollenspieker-faehr...
The Zollenspieker Fährhaus is located in the lower Elbe region in the south-eastern part of Hamburg. Historical records prove that there has been a building in this important customs area since 1252. A timbered two-storey house was built here in 1621. This renaissance building served as a custom post until 1806. After that, steamboats from Lauenburg stopped here and contributed to a new development-the Zollenspieker Fährhaus turned into a popular day trip location and an annex with a ballroom was built. In 1961, the last regular steamboat service was closed. In the course of the 1990s, thorough renovation became necessary. Since then the Fährhaus has served as a café, restaurant and hotel. It is incredibly busy on sunny weekends, when cyclists, families and the ships of the Alstertourism Company stop here on their tours of the lower Elbe. The place is also very popular with cyclists. Apart from cakes and gateaux, the menu offers traditional seasonal fish dishes and plain cooking.

The different breakfast variations are available, and on weekends a brunch is offered, as well. In addition to barbeque nights in summer, the German kitchen also creates a variety of vegetarian dishes and seasonal specialities.

Övelgönner Fährhaus

Sophisticated fish dishes at the Elbe

Hamburg, Hamburg 22763
Germany
+49 (0)40 39 3840, +49 (0)40 39 5464

Övelgönner Fährhaus is located at the museum harbour, and it is best reached by busline 112. After an excellent meal you can go for a walk along the beautiful Elbuferweg or visit the old ships. The front of the Fährhaus is white and green, and with its red roof it looks like a Friesian house. The best summertime tables with a great view of the river Elbe are on the terrace. But it is also very comfortable inside particularly on the first floor, where several separate sections provide a perfect ambience for small festive occasions. Fish lovers will enjoy the traditional Hamburg meals. There are several variations on local fish including popular regional recipes. The sophisticated cuisine is rather expensive, however. Plaice, herring and sole are always there, but salmon and crustaceans are also available.
