On the waterfront |
Grosse Elbstrasse 145 Hamburg, Hamburg 22767 Germany +49 (0)40 3803 7730 http://www.au-quai.com/ |
Located beside the River Elbe, this refurbished cold-storage depot now houses one of the best restaurants in the city, offering a great ambience teamed with great food. Done-up in earthy hues and plenty of wood, it is a true summer delight, particularly the terrace seating area. The food is a classic combination of French and Italian cuisines, with a range of delicious seafood dishes on offer. So if enjoying dinner with a brilliant view of shimmering waters and bobbing boats is your idea of a perfect evening, then a visit to Au Quai is on the cards! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Good and inexpensive French cuisine |
Büschstraße 2 Hamburg, Hamburg 20354 Germany +49 (0)40 34 3373 http://www.casse-croute.de/ |
This restaurant tries not to cultivate an image of posh French cuisine. You can get sophisticated plain cooking here at very reasonable prices. The wine list is somewhat poor, a bit expensive and not comparable to a French one, but a visit to this popular place near Gänsemarkt is definitely worth your while. The seats are usually quickly taken, and you can watch the chef at work, preparing such lovely treats as duck, veal or fish, while you anticipate your meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Creative international cuisine |
Greifswalder Straße 43 Hamburg, Hamburg 20099 Germany +49 (0)40 24 9422 http://www.restaurant-cox.de |
'Innovative' and 'creative' are words that describe Cox extremely well. The spacious dining rooms are simple but stylish, making this the perfect place to relax and enjoy great food. As well as classic French and Italian dishes, the menu contains a selection of excellent international specialities in the mid-to-top price category. Yet the prices certainly haven't stopped people from coming here and booking is essential. Try the fillet of halibut with coriander and rice, venison ravioli on spinach with goat's cheese or the grated mango and mascarpone gratin. Review © 2007, Wcities |

An electic montage |
Friedensallee 9 Hamburg, Hamburg 22765 Germany +49 (0)40 390 4606 |
The pizzas here are a regular favorite - known to be the 'best in the country', the pastas too are delicious enough for any Italian food lover. The crowd that comes in is generally a pre-theatre one or then locals looking for a quick and light meal. The sassy decor and the general energy filled atmosphere of the eatery is just one of the reasons for its consistent popularity! Review © 2007, Wcities |

A good wine after a good film |
Friedensallee 7 Hamburg, Hamburg 22765 Germany +49 (0)40 3990 8025 |
The most frequent subject of conversation around here? Well, we're in the middle of Hamburg's film district, so take a guess! A popular meeting place for producers, directors and students, this café is also frequented by visitors to the nearby Zeise cinema. What could be better than analysing the film over a glass of fine wine and a tasty plate of Franco-German food? Review © 2007, Wcities |

Award-winning cuisine |
Elbchaussee 401-403 Hamburg, Hamburg 22609 Germany +49 (0)40 82 2550 http://www.hotel-jacob.de/gast... |
The restaurant in Hotel Louis C. Jacob is one of the best culinary addresses in town, serving up excellent French cuisine and a great choice of more than 400 wines. The icing on the cake is the wonderful, sweeping view of the River Elbe, which was immortalized on canvas by the great German painter Max Liebermann. Guests can enjoy fantastic set meals or dine à la carte on tender veal, duck or salmon. The restaurant has won numerous awards over the years. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Exquisite Provencal cuisine |
Lattenkamp 8 Hamburg, Hamburg 22299 Germany +49 (0)40 513 3828 |
Since the Seventies this French restaurant in Winterhude has provided classic Provencal cuisine in a cosy atmosphere. The rather rustic interior makes you think of southern Fance and attracts guests of every age group. They come for the exquisite cuisine. A lot of the regulars are obviously well-to-do. There are excellent set meals on the menu, as well as Provencal specialities like game and fish dishes and the famous bouillabaisse fish soup. They all come in large helpings. The chéf uses fresh herbs and spices to create the individual taste. A new Beaujolais is also always available and highly recommended by the friendly staff. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Refined food and medieval atmosphere |
Neuer Jungfernstieg 9-14 Hamburg, Hamburg 20354 Germany +49 (0)40 3 4940 http://www.raffles-hvj.de/ |
A top hotel needs a top restaurant and the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten has hit the jackpot with Haerlin. Decorated in feudal style, this place has firmly established itself at the top of Hamburg's culinary premier league. Huge windows provide great views over beautiful Lake Alster, a piano player tinkles in the background and the wine list is simply unbeatable. All this could easily deflect interest from the food - if it weren't for the creative and refined dishes rustled up by chef Hans-Peter Engels, holder of numerous Gault Millaut and Michelin awards. Good, imaginative French cuisine |
Rutschbahn 34 Hamburg, Hamburg 20146 Germany +49 (0)40 410 2532 http://www.auberge.de/ |
Good and imaginative French cuisine at affordable prices is on offer here. The décor is admittedly not the nicest you will come across, but the good food, luxurious wine list and friendly service can't fail to impress. In addition to classic Breton cuisine, a variety of excellent fish dishes is on offer here. Those familiar with the restaurant do not ask for the menu but enquire about the daily specials. Stylish modern restaurant |
Papenhuder Straße 35 Hamburg, Hamburg 22087 Germany +49 (0)40 229 7198 http://www.restaurant-rexrodt.de/ |
Known for its creative cuisine, Rexrodt's offers one or two daily specials, as well as seasonal French, Italian and German dishes. Excellent desserts and some first class wines complete the selection. The building actually used to be an abattoir, but the art nouveau ambience and shiny tiles on the walls now attract media people, lawyers and journalists. Try the shrimps in fennel sauce, the baked lamb coated in herbs or go for the three-course meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Süllbergsterrasse 12 Süllberg Hotel Hamburg, Hamburg 22587 Germany +49 (0)40 86 6252 x0 http://www.suellberg-hamburg.d... |
This restaurant, located within the charming Süllberg Hotel, offers you the complete fine dining experience. The interior, done up in a warm mélange of gold, brown, and wood, is elegance personified. The stunning views of the Elbe and the surrounding Blankenese Mountains enhance the beauty of the place. The menu consists of traditional French dishes prepared with a contemporary touch. So if you're willing to spend that extra bit on class and quality, Seven Seas won't disappoint you! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Creative cuisine |
Neumühlen 17 Hamburg, Hamburg 22763 Germany +49 (0)40 89 2760 http://www.tafelhaus-hamburg.de/ |
The small and pretty Tafelhaus is located in the not exactly attractive neighborhood of an industrial estate, but it cannot complain about a lack of guests. Lovers of the varied, fresh cuisine on offer here still find their way to the restaurant. The light dishes, with Mediterranean and sometimes a hint of Asian flavour, are the trademark of this free, creative cuisine which is among the best in Hamburg. The Tafelhaus has a very well-arranged wine cellar with over 400 different French and German red and white wines. The 5-course dinner, which is frequently rethought at with new ingredients, is recommended for a special occasion. You'll also be able to get a good midday meal here. Review © 2007, Wcities |
