Café Koppel lies nicely tucked away behind a backyard off the Lange Reihe. Everything here is ecologically sound - down to the food and the Transfair tea and coffee. The clientele is made up of both social scientists and those for whom eco-friendly is 'in'. You can sit comfortably here, listening to classical music by candlelight. Markgraf Swabian cuisine in a former monastery

This restaurant is not located in the city centre, but as Swabian and Bavarian cuisine and specialties from Baden are a bit exotic for Hamburg standards, it is well worth the short journey. A closer look at the menu also reveals a choice of Alsatian dishes. The Markgraf is located in an historical building with a very beautiful old stained glass door, which separates two of the dining rooms. It used to belong to Eppendorf monastery. Complimentary goats cheese and a platter of tempting starters provide a sample of the culinary treats on offer here.
