Fish and different varieties of seafood are the firm favourites on the menu at Casa Algarve. You could also try the chicken or lamb without having any regrets, but the lobster and red snapper, to name just a couple of dishes, are unbeatable. The vegetables are always fresh and crunchy, and the lovely Portuguese wines are not overpriced. A cosy Mediterranean ambience with fishing nets on the walls and a scent of herbs and garlic makes you feel like you're in the Algarve the minute you enter the restaurant. When you listen to the guitarist at the weekend, you'll never want to leave! Popular dishes include garlic soup, crab la maison, grilled fish on a skewer and smoked swordfish.

+49(0)40 439 6626 An evening at Oceano is like visiting family. Screaming kids may drive their parents around the bend, but the chef can easily take it with his Mediterranean nonchalance. Football is often a topic of conversation here, as too are landlord Manolo's reminiscences of his days as a fisherman in Portugal. Nowadays he is charged with cooking the catch, which he does to perfection. The fried sardines (EUR 6.25) and monkfish in shrimp sauce (EUR 13) are firm favourites. The menu also includes some tasty lamb, pork and beef dishes for those who want a break from seafood. The generous helpings won't leave guests hungry and a glass of fig liquor rounds off the meal nicely. The restaurant contains a bar where people can also just come for a drink.

The Portuguese restaurant Petisco in the Schanzen district is one such case; tasty daily specials are available. A glance at the colourful crowds on the Schulterblatt in summer will make you feel as if you were in Portugal.

Yet despite, or even because of this, many people consider the Porto one of the best Portuguese restaurants in town. The cook transforms the simplest ingredients into the most delicious delicacies. This place offers excellent value, and you'll be lucky to get a seat here at the weekend. If you dare, try the grilled octopus with potatoes and salad.
