Hanseatic delicatessen with a noble ambience |
Strandweg 33 Hamburg, Hamburg 22587 Germany +49 (0)40 86 0438 |
Located directly on the Strandweg in Blankenese, the Ahrberg has a great view of the river Elbe. It is an exquisite spot for a high-class meal either before or after a walk along the Elbe. The Ahrberg belongs to the upper price category restaurants. A visit is a bit like travelling back in time to the days of teak, gramophones and wall clocks. Mixed customers enjoy their visit here among lots of stylish antiques and old-fashioned decoration. In good weather, you can dine outside or on one of the three sheltered terraces. There is traditional Hanseatic cuisine, especially for fans of fish dishes and so called 'plain cooking', but the menu also offers a fine choice of international dishes. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional fish cuisine on the canal |
Deichstraße 43 Hamburg, Hamburg 20459 Germany +49 (0)40 36 2990 |
This restaurant in Hamburg's beautiful Old Town offers traditional high-class fish cuisine. Despite the name, they have far more to offer than the 11 eel variations which gave the place its name. The Aalspeicher is decorated with a lot of typical Hanseatic accessories. If you want to dine with a view of the canal, it is advisable to book a table in advance. Plaice, herring, salmon and other classic fish dishes are also available here, while steaks and seasonal dishes complete the menu, along with a wine list which caters for everybody's needs. The food is a classic combination of French and Italian cuisines, with a range of delicious seafood dishes on offer. Fresh fish and seafood from Portugal |
Hofweg 63 Hamburg, Hamburg 22085 Germany +49 (0)40 227 7033 http://www.casa-algarve-hambur... |
Fish and different varieties of seafood are the firm favourites on the menu at Casa Algarve. You could also try the chicken or lamb without having any regrets, but the lobster and red snapper, to name just a couple of dishes, are unbeatable. The vegetables are always fresh and crunchy, and the lovely Portuguese wines are not overpriced. A cosy Mediterranean ambience with fishing nets on the walls and a scent of herbs and garlic makes you feel like you're in the Algarve the minute you enter the restaurant. When you listen to the guitarist at the weekend, you'll never want to leave! Popular dishes include garlic soup, crab la maison, grilled fish on a skewer and smoked swordfish. Great fish dishes and clams |
Brodschrangen 1-5 Hamburg, Hamburg 20457 Germany +49 (0)40 32 6059 |
Jean Paul once said: "An optimist is a man who orders clams without a penny in his pockets, hoping to pay for them with a pearl". But optimists, be warned: it is highly unlikely that you'll find pearls inside Cölln´s clams. You will experience a real feast for the palate, however. It comes as no surprise that clams are the seafood stars of Cölln´s kitchen, but there are also other culinary highlights such as freshly caught lobster. This fine fish restaurant is a Hamburg institution. Well-off Hanseatic people are seated in six private rooms which can hold up to twelve people. They enjoy the best and finest fish creations; the majority of fish here is bought fresh several times every day. Unfortunately, the future of the traditional house is at present uncertain. Traditional and exotic seafood dishes |
Große Elbstraße 143 Hamburg, Hamburg 22767 Germany +49 (0)40 38 1816 http://www.fischereihafenresta... |
Inconspicuously situated between two warehouses and close to the fish market and ferry terminal for boats to England, this establishment, which is run by the Kowalke family, attracts gourmets from far and wide, including many celebrities. Both traditional and exotic fish and seafood dishes are available, as is a fine choice of wines. The window seats offer great views of the River Elbe. Stylish fish restaurant |
Kajen 12 Hamburg, Hamburg 20459 Germany +49 (0)40 36 5631 |
The Fish Kitchen belongs to the Fischereihafen-Restaurant and offers the same kind of exclusive fish and seafood cuisine. The arrangement of the food on the plates is a feast for the eyes. The fish is freshly prepared in a corner of the dining-room, so you can watch the chefs at work. There's a certain price to be paid for the excellent ingredients and service, of course. The rich meet the beautiful at this restaurant, and accordingly, the service provided here can be described as having a discreet Hanseatic charm. The staff can recommend a suitable wine to accompany your meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A fishy tradition! |
Övelgönne 6 Hamburg, Hamburg 22605 Germany +49 (0)40 880 0445 http://www.fischrestaurant-hop... |
This restaurant has been in the neighborhood for about ninety years and still attracts the same kind of crowd. Guessing from its name, 'fish' - caught and cooked to perfection is the specialty here. With creepers forming a graceful trellis within the dining area, you really might not regret missing out on an alfresco seating on the terrace. The decor is kept very basic, so that nothing spoils the beautiful views of the bay. Filled with tourists and locals alike, this is a great place to taste authentic Hamburger Kümmel (crabs), sip on German 'biere' and gaze away into the horizon! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fine restaurant in Hotel Prem |
An der Alster 9 Hamburg, Hamburg 20099 Germany +49 (0)40 2483 4040 |
The hotel restaurant serves exquisite and superior cuisine and drinks from the kitchen and wine cellar. Whether you sit in the small Stüberl, in the neighbouring regal room with light blue leather three piece suites, or in the garden, you will have a great time here in La Mer. The rooms are furnished in a rather exclusive style. Valuable antiques, beautiful mirrors and high quality materials create a suitable ambience for a sophisticated cuisine. The Stüberl is decorated in a classy rustic fashion. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hanseatic cuisine in a maritime ambience |
Englische Planke 10 Hamburg, Hamburg 20459 Germany +49 (0)40 36 6319 http://www.oldcommercialroom.de |
Fish and tradition are two very important words at the Old Commercial Room. This is the place to go for real Hanseatic specialities. The menu is translated into nine languages, definitely appreciated by all the international guests. The Old Commercial Room distinguishes itself by its interior. "Welcome on board" should actually be the first words spoken upon entering the place. A combination of mahogany wood, brass lamps and ship's accessories create a cosy maritime atmosphere. Above all else, Labskaus is a firm favourite and also a visual experience for newcomers here. Among other classic dishes, Pears, beans and bacon is highly recommended. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Riverside restaurant |
Van-der-Smissen-Straße 1 Hamburg, Hamburg 22767 Germany +49 (0)40 380 5919 http://www.rive-hamburg.de/ |
This restaurant, which specializes in excellent fish dishes, is located near the ferry terminal on the River Elbe. For starters, a container ship might chug past your table and during the main course the passengers on a cruise ship might wave at you: the view is simply fantastic. The mixed seafood platter is highly recommended and so are the lobster and regional specialties, but the high quality offered here certainly has its price. You can sit outside on the terrace (heated during Spring and Autumn) and looking out over the water. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nice cuisine and a view of the harbour |
Große Elbstraße 39 Hamburg, Hamburg 22767 Germany +49 (0)40 38 2242 http://www.warsteiner-elbspeic... |
The Warsteiner Elbspeicher is located directly on the river Elbe. In the immediate neighbourhood of the Fischmarkt and the modern shopping temple Stilwerk it makes for a good location after a nice walk along the river or a shopping tour. In good weather you can dine on the open-air terrace and watch whatever is happening on the Elbe. But the grand harbour view can also be enjoyed from inside, and especially in typical Hamburg "Schmuddelwetter" (rainy weather) it is very cosy here. At the Elbspeicher, traditional Hamburg cuisine and tasty international dishes are available at slightly higher level prices. On Saturdays and Sundays there is a nice breakfast from 10am (9am Sun) to midday. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fresh fish in a former fish cannery |
Große Freiheit 70 Hamburg, Hamburg 22767 Germany +49 (0)40 319 1214 http://www.weite-welt.de/ |
The Weite Welt (wide world) begins where the Große Freiheit (big freedom) ends, and that´s in a former fish canning factory. Here, hidden in a backyard, a first class bistro with a cocktail bar can be found. It mainly attracts young night-clubbers with a discerning palate and suitable income. Fresh fish is delivered three times a week and you can enjoy fish dishes in a relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere. The house´s wine cellar is filled with an impressive 50,000 bottles and the wine list (40 pages long) leaves nothing to ask for. An oasis in the red light district. Review © 2007, Wcities |
