Upmarket café with wonderful views of the Alster |
Jungfernstieg 54 Hamburg, Hamburg 20354 Germany +49 (0)40 350 1870 |
The Alsterpavillon is now run by the Alex chain and boasts folding glass walls, ten open-plan kitchens and space for concerts, exhibitions and functions for up to 800 people. The original pavilion was built in 1799 and has always been popular with day-trippers, shoppers and sun worshippers. Located opposite Jungfernstieg shopping street, this is a great place to stop off for a coffee, beer or cocktail. The views over Lake Alster are fantastic, the prices accordingly steep. Fashionable café and pub |
Hafenstraße 140 Hamburg, Hamburg 20359 Germany +49 (0)40 3179 3880 |
Located near the harbour, Amphore is an idyllic spot in the middle of the city, offering spectacular views of the River Elbe and the shipyards. The place attracts a mix of trendy young regulars, often clad in expensive clothes, Ray Bans and carrying mobile phones. But plenty of other people pop by during the day for a cup of coffee, a quick read through the daily papers and to enjoy the view. A flight of stairs leads down to the Golden Pudel Club. Mirror, mirror on the wall |
Wiesenstraße 46 Hamburg, Hamburg c Germany +49 (0)40 49 3131 |
Mirrors, maybe too many mirrors everywhere, long ostrich legs and a wonderful beer garden in the summer-these are the trademarks of the popular and pleasant Cafe Strauss in Eimsbüttel. The rooms appear very large and bright, and the mainly wooden interior has been kept rather plain. There is always nice and friendly service at the café. An arch with plants marks the inviting entrance to the beautiful open-air area. Review © 2007, Wcities |

All multi-cultural in Schanzenviertel |
Juliusstraße 16 Hamburg, Hamburg 22769 Germany +49 (0)40 43 8140 http://www.cafe-unter-den-lind... |
The charm and flair of the Schanzenviertel is concentrated here. Punks, kids, intellectuals and everyday people all come to this place with its garish green walls and 50's decor. The café is actually surrounded by the lime-trees, which are the inspiration for its name. They certainly contribute to its popularity and make people want to stay that little bit longer, as do the 10 daily newspapers and the many magazines for customers to read over coffee. Coffee and newspapers in a quiet atmosphere |
Gärtnerstraße 30 Hamburg, Hamburg 20253 Germany +49 (0)40 422 6611 |
If you are looking for a place to go to in order to recover from the exertions of life in the city you might find it at the Café da Vinci. Here you can enjoy a nice cup of tea or coffee in peace, read the papers, and switch off for a while (even the mobile phone). That is what regulars associate with this oasis of many plants and a Mona Lisa on the wall. Delicious ice-cream and homemade cakes are especially recommended along with your hot drinks. Leisure and holiday atmosphere |
Hofweg 103 Hamburg, Hamburg 22085 Germany +49 (0)40 229 0540 |
The Cafe Fiedler´s has an excellent location on the tributary of the river Alster. Ferries pass by here on their way to the Mühlenkamp berth and you can drink a cup of coffee with a lovely view of the waterfront. When the sun is shining you can sit outside on a spacious terrace, and when it's cold a seat in the gallery with its amazing view is recommended. The basement is also comfortable. But all the seats are occupied and a visit to this busy café is not the general idea of peace and quiet. Review © 2007, Wcities |
