Finger-licking good |
Hoheluftchaussee 86 Hamburg, Hamburg 20253 Germany +49 (0)40 48 9090 |
Vietnamese restaurants are thin on the ground in Hamburg, but this place makes up for that with its fine cooking and relaxed ambience. Guests sit on garden chairs, surrounded by plants, and dig into classic Vietnemese dishes at very reasonable prices. If you want, you can eat with your fingers, just like in Southeast Asia. For many guests this is a whole new experience and definitely makes for more authenticity! Main courses include the likes of rice pancakes stuffed with vegetables, but make sure you leave some room for one of the gorgeous desserts. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Creative international cuisine |
Greifswalder Straße 43 Hamburg, Hamburg 20099 Germany +49 (0)40 24 9422 http://www.restaurant-cox.de |
'Innovative' and 'creative' are words that describe Cox extremely well. The spacious dining rooms are simple but stylish, making this the perfect place to relax and enjoy great food. As well as classic French and Italian dishes, the menu contains a selection of excellent international specialities in the mid-to-top price category. Yet the prices certainly haven't stopped people from coming here and booking is essential. Try the fillet of halibut with coriander and rice, venison ravioli on spinach with goat's cheese or the grated mango and mascarpone gratin. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hamburg's dolce vita |
Alsterufer 2 Hamburg, Hamburg 20354 Germany +49 (0)40 4135 5655 |
Paolino Cherchi is one of Hamburg's best known Italian chefs and many of his guests were devastated when his restaurant burned down in 1997. Two years later, it reopened in a new location overlooking the Alster and continues to offer the same gourmet Italian cuisine. The menu includes traditional antipasti, pasta dishes and a selection of Italian fish and meat dishes. Despite the exclusive location the prices are very reasonable. Da Paolino is particularly popular with local celebrities. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tempting tandooris |
Lerchenfeld 18 Hamburg, Hamburg 22081 Germany +49 (0)40 220 9475 |
This tandoori restaurant is located in the same building as the English Theatre and in the immediate vicinity of Hamburger Straße shopping centre. Situated in the basement of this beautiful building - which used to house the Hammonia baths in the 1920s - Jaipur is decorated with lovely Indian carvings, crystal chandeliers and fans. As well as the tandoori specialties, the menu features a host of authentic Indian dishes ranging from the mild to excruciatingly hot. The rice platter for two is highly recommended. Typical Indian drinks are also available, including sweet or salted lassi. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Rustic country charm and stylish flower arrangements are the additional ingredients which accompany the high quality meat and fish specialities prepared by the chef. The terrace, hidden from the nearby street by a high hedge, is the perfect place to savour the fine Austro-German and French cuisine. In addition to its pricey gourmet dishes, Landhaus Dill also offers good value lunchtime specials. Fine Austrian and Italian wines provide the perfect accompaniment to your meal. Regional cuisine with an international touch |
Elbchaussee 130 Hamburg, Hamburg 22763 Germany +49 (0)40 880 1325 http://www.landhausscherrer.de/ |
At home in a traditional country house which dates back to 1827, Landhaus Scherrer; named after the Scherrer family who have run it since 1976; is widely regarded as being one of the very best restaurants in town. The chef specializes in exquisite regional cuisine with an international touch, while the owner has made sure that the assortment of wine is equally exclusive. The majority of the clientèle are well-off locals. The bistro offers slightly less expensive dishes, which the chef prepares just as passionately as his specialty, vierländer duck. Spain for connoisseurs |
Maretstraße 60 Hamburg 21073 Germany +49 40 766 6315 |
Fans of Spanish cuisine should make sure they pay a visit to Meson Galicia. After your meal you can go for a walk around the nearby lake. The interior is decorated in typical Spanish style. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Unconventional ambience, sophisticated cuisine |
Neuer Pferdemarkt 5 Hamburg, h 20359 Germany +49 (0)40 439 7823 http://www.restaurant-nil.de |
The media crowd who patronise this establishment just love the fifties-style interior and unconventional ambience. Indeed, the setting-an old shoe shop-is a strange one for such sophisticated culinary creations. A team of skilled chefs treat guests to such delicacies as Tafelspitz (fillet of beef), exquisite fish dishes, gorgeous seasonal salads and scrumptious desserts. And not only is the quality good-the reasonable prices make this one of the best tips in town for bon viveurs. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Refined food and medieval atmosphere |
Neuer Jungfernstieg 9-14 Hamburg, Hamburg 20354 Germany +49 (0)40 3 4940 http://www.raffles-hvj.de/ |
A top hotel needs a top restaurant and the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten has hit the jackpot with Haerlin. Decorated in feudal style, this place has firmly established itself at the top of Hamburg's culinary premier league. Huge windows provide great views over beautiful Lake Alster, a piano player tinkles in the background and the wine list is simply unbeatable. All this could easily deflect interest from the food - if it weren't for the creative and refined dishes rustled up by chef Hans-Peter Engels, holder of numerous Gault Millaut and Michelin awards. While the unique style of this café attracts art lovers from far and wide, it is also popular with locals. The design is based on sketches by the legendary Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. A gallery, tower, numerous plants and an integrated travel agent have turned this place into something resembling an entertainment centre. There is a variety of scrumptious cakes, a wide choice of hot drinks and set lunches. Visitors can enjoy a selection of cocktails and wine in the evening. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Veggie heaven |
Thadenstraße 1 Hamburg, Hamburg 22767 Germany +49 (0)40 439 8422 |
Suryel provides an impressive demonstration of how versatile and tasty vegetarian cuisine can be. This is a great place to enjoy a bowl of soup, a salad or a plate of pasta in a friendly and inviting atmosphere. All meals are filling, and dedicated carnivores won't miss the meat thanks to the excellent tofu dishes. Favourites include the herb tofu in a red wine sauce with buttered vegetables and rosemary potatoes (EUR10) and spring salad and yoghurt dip with sweet potato (EUR7.50). There is a bowling alley in the basement which can be hired by the hour. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional and contemporary Japanese specialities |
Hofweg 75 Hamburg, Hamburg 22085 Germany +49 (0)40 227 1140 http://www.wa-yo.de/deutsch/wa... |
As well as prominent local figures, there are also numerous Japanese people among the guests - a sure sign of Wa-Yo's appeal. Located in the Nippon Hotel in one of Hamburg's most exclusive districts, the restaurant offers much, much more than your typical sushi roll. The chef rustles up a variety of traditional and modern Japanese specialities, including sukiyaki and beef hotpot, both of which are highly recommended. Decorated in typically minimalistic style, Wa-Yo is generally very busy and prices tend to lean towards the top end of the scale. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Located in the picturesque Hirschpark, Witthüs tea shop is a great place to relax with a home-made cake and cup of tea. With a historic fireplace, rococo furniture and subdued classical music in the background, the tea shop is extremely atmospheric, but is also very popular, meaning that you may have to wait a while for a table. Guests can sit on the terrace in the summer and enjoy one of the freshly baked rolls or cakes. Sunday brunch is available from 10a-2p. Review © 2007, Wcities |
