Hilo Hattie's

Ultimate Hawaiian store

First things first: the Hilo location of this store is not the original. The first Hilo Hattie's is in Honolulu. All disappointment aside, this is still a pretty darn good place to shop for Hawaiiana. Everything from goofy souvenirs to elegant gold jewelry can be purchased here. Dozens of varieties of muu muus and aloha shirts are available. It is also a good place to get macadamia nuts and Kona coffee. The store is constantly offering a few promotions or specials.

Liberty House

Island department store
111 East Puainako Street
Hawaii, HI 96720
United States
Liberty House is an island fixture, although most mainlanders are unfamiliar with the name. This upscale department store can be found all over the Hawaiian island chain, with its Big Island branch located in Kailua Kona. As with other name-brand department stores (Macy's, Bloomingdale's), Liberty House offers primarily clothing: men's wear, women's wear, children's clothing, lingerie, etcetera. You'll find multiple cosmetic counters, accessories, shoes and specialty displays selling island products.
